Phoenix, Ariz. — Fall 2026. As the Annual Enrollment Period opens, 13 Medicare Advantage plans sold in Maricopa County this year will not be offered again in 2027, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Landscape files. If you're enrolled in one of them, the mail you receive this fall matters — and so do the dates that come next.
Here's how to tell whether your plan is on the list, what happens if you do nothing, and the extra time Medicare gives you to pick something else.
The Phoenix-area plans not returning for 2027

For 2027, Maricopa County will have 92 Medicare Advantage plans offered by 16 carriers. The table below lists every plan available for the coming year.
How to tell if your plan is on the list
If your Medicare Advantage plan is not being offered again, your carrier is required to send a non-renewal notice (sometimes called a "plan termination letter") by early October 2026. It will say — in plain language on the first page — that your plan will end on December 31, 2026, and that you need to make a choice.
A few things to look for in your mailbox this fall:
- A letter clearly labeled as a non-renewal or plan termination notice. This is different from the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), which goes to members whose plan is continuing but changing.
- A reference to a Special Enrollment Period for people losing their plan.
- Instructions for contacting the carrier and for comparing other options.
If you're not sure which letter you got, call the member number on the back of your plan card, or call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048).
What happens if you do nothing
If your plan is on the non-returning list and you don't choose a new plan by December 31, 2026, Medicare will move you to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) on January 1, 2027.
A few things to know about that default:
- Original Medicare does not include prescription drug coverage. If your current Medicare Advantage plan includes a drug benefit (all 13 non-returning plans do), you'll want to think about a stand-alone Part D plan to avoid a late-enrollment penalty later.
- Original Medicare does not cap your out-of-pocket costs for doctor and hospital services the way a Medicare Advantage plan does. Some people pair it with a Medigap (Medicare Supplement) policy to help with those costs.
- You'll use the red, white and blue Medicare card for care starting January 1 — not your old plan card.
Your choices and the Special Enrollment Period
Because your plan is ending through no fault of yours, Medicare gives you more time than the regular Annual Enrollment Period. You have two windows:
1. Annual Enrollment Period: October 15 – December 7, 2026. Any Medicare Advantage or Part D plan you pick in this window takes effect January 1, 2027. 2. Special Enrollment Period for a non-renewed plan: December 8, 2026 through the end of February 2027. This is specifically for people whose plan is leaving. You can use it to enroll in a different Medicare Advantage plan or a stand-alone Part D plan.
You also have a Medigap guaranteed-issue right if your Medicare Advantage plan is ending. At the program level, that means certain Medigap policies must be sold to you without medical underwriting during a limited window around the loss of coverage. State rules in Arizona can add protections on top of the federal baseline, so check with the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions for specifics before you apply.
A few 2027 figures worth knowing
Whatever you choose, two Part D numbers are changing next year:
- The Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 in 2027 (it's $2,100 in 2026).
- The Part D maximum deductible rises to $700 in 2027 (it's $615 in 2026).
The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not been announced yet; CMS typically publishes them later in the fall.
