SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The federal Medicare Advantage lineup for 2027 is now set, and if you live in Scottsdale, some familiar plan names will not be back next year. According to CMS's Medicare Advantage Landscape Source Files, 13 plans offered in Maricopa County this year are leaving after 2026, 17 new plans are joining for 2027, and 13 more are keeping their carrier but changing their name. The Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, and that is your main window to react.

Key takeaways

  • In Maricopa County, where Scottsdale sits, 13 Medicare Advantage plans are leaving after 2026, 17 are new for 2027, and 13 are renamed.
  • If your plan is not renewed for 2027, you get a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February to pick a new plan.
  • Even if your plan is continuing, 20 plans in the county show a change to premium, deductible, type or name — read the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your carrier mails you.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period is Oct. 15 – Dec. 7; the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs Jan. 1 – March 31.

Why this matters in Scottsdale right now

Scottsdale is in Maricopa County, where 79 Medicare Advantage plans from 16 carriers are being offered for 2027. That is a big menu, but the menu is not the same as this year. Between 2026 and 2027, CMS's files show 62 plans in the county are continuing as-is, while 43 are leaving, arriving, being renamed, or otherwise changing.

If you are enrolled in one of the plans that is leaving, you cannot simply stay put — the plan will not exist. If your plan is being renamed, your coverage may look almost identical, but a new name on your mail can be confusing. And if your plan is continuing but "changing," the details will be in the ANOC that arrives from your carrier by late September.

Plans leaving Maricopa County after 2026

Thirteen plans available in the county this year will not be offered in 2027. In alphabetical order by carrier:

If you are in one of these, your carrier is required to send you a non-renewal notice. That notice triggers a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February, giving you extra time — beyond Dec. 7 — to switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare with a stand-alone Part D drug plan.

Plans new for 2027

Seventeen plans are joining the Maricopa County market for 2027:

You can compare these on Medicare's Plan Finder at medicare.gov once the 2027 details go live. Several are Special Needs Plans (SNPs), which are limited to people with specific conditions, both Medicare and Medicaid, or certain institutional needs.

Plans that are being renamed

Thirteen plans are keeping their carrier but showing up under a new name for 2027. That does not automatically mean anything else changed — but it does mean the plan you recognize will look different on paper. The renames include several Alignment Health plans (Heart & Diabetes, Heart & Diabetes Plus, ONE + Walgreens, Smart), two HealthSpring plans under Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC), a Devoted Health C-SNP, an eternalHealth plan formerly co-branded with Fry's, three Humana plans, and UHC Dual Complete AZ-YL (formerly AZ-Y001). The table on this page lists each old and new name side by side.

What to do if you are affected

If your plan is leaving. Watch the mail in September and October for a non-renewal letter. You will have from now through Dec. 7 during the Annual Enrollment Period, and then a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February, to pick a new Medicare Advantage plan or move to Original Medicare with a Part D plan.

If your plan is being renamed. Read the ANOC. In most cases you do not need to do anything to stay enrolled, but confirm your doctors, hospitals and prescriptions are still covered.

If your plan is "changing." CMS flags 20 plans in Maricopa County as changing on premium, deductible, type or name for 2027. We are not permitted to say which item changed or by how much — the ANOC from your carrier is the source of truth, and it must reach you by Sept. 30.

If nothing is changing on your plan. It still pays to compare. Networks, drug formularies and extra benefits can shift year to year even when the plan name and price stay the same.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I do nothing and my Medicare Advantage plan is leaving Scottsdale?
If your plan is not renewed for 2027 and you make no other choice, you will generally be returned to Original Medicare (Parts A and B) on Jan. 1, without drug coverage. To avoid a gap, use the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7) or your Special Enrollment Period, which runs through the end of February, to pick a new Medicare Advantage plan or add a stand-alone Part D drug plan.
My plan has a new name for 2027. Do I need to re-enroll?
No. A rename by itself does not require you to sign up again — your coverage continues under the new name. But read the Annual Notice of Change your carrier sends, because CMS may also flag other adjustments to premium, deductible or plan type separately.
Can I switch plans after Dec. 7?
Yes, in two situations. The
