Glendale, Calif. — With the Annual Enrollment Period running Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, Medicare Advantage members in Glendale are getting mail about what their plans will look like in 2027. Some plans are leaving the market, some carry new names, and new options are joining the lineup. Here is a plain-language look at what is changing in Los Angeles County — the county Glendale belongs to for Medicare plan availability — and what to do if your plan is on the move.

Key takeaways

  • In Los Angeles County, 23 Medicare Advantage plans are leaving after 2026, 26 are new for 2027, and 23 are keeping the same plan but changing the name.
  • Central Health Medicare Plan will not offer Medicare Advantage plans in the county next year, so its members will need to pick a new plan or return to Original Medicare.
  • If your plan is not renewed for 2027, you get a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027 to choose a new plan.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7) is the main window for everyone else to switch, and the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs Jan. 1 – March 31.

What's changing in Los Angeles County for 2027

CMS's Medicare Advantage Landscape files for 2026 and 2027 show a busy year in the county:

One carrier, Central Health Medicare Plan, is exiting the county entirely. Every current Central Health member in Glendale will need to make a choice for 2027.

The table on this page lists every plan offered in the county. Below, we focus only on the ones changing status.

Plans leaving after 2026

If you're enrolled in one of the plans below, your coverage will not automatically continue into 2027. You should have received (or will soon receive) a non-renewal notice from your insurer.

Plans not returning in Los Angeles County next year include:

Plans that are new for 2027

Twenty-six plans are joining the county's lineup for 2027. Among them:

Availability doesn't mean fit — check the plan documents against your own doctors, prescriptions and budget before you enroll.

Plans that are being renamed

A rename can look scary in the mail, but the plan itself continues. If your plan is here, your ANOC is still the document to read; other things can also change from one year to the next.

Renamed plans include several Aetna Medicare Prime and Signature plans, more than a dozen Alignment Health plans (many of the Heart & Diabetes, Balance, BreathEasy, Clarity, My Choice, Smart, Platinum + Instacart and ValorCare plans now carry number suffixes), Blue Shield's TotalDual plan (now Blue Shield Medicare + Medi-Cal Plan), and three AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC plans that swapped their plan numbers. The full list of prior and new names is in the table on this page.

What to do if your plan is leaving

If your plan is not being renewed for 2027, Medicare gives you a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027. During that window you can:

You don't have to wait, though. During the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7), anyone with Medicare can switch plans for a Jan. 1 start date. And from Jan. 1 – March 31, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period lets people already in a Medicare Advantage plan make one change.

A few steps that help:

1. Read the ANOC and the non-renewal letter your insurer sent. 2. Make a list of your doctors, hospitals and prescriptions. 3. Use the Plan Finder at medicare.gov to compare plans side by side with your drug list. 4. Confirm your doctors are in-network for any plan you're considering. 5. Call your local State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) — in California, that's HICAP — for free one-on-one help.
