IRVINE, Calif. — Medicare's 2027 plan year brings a noticeable shake-up to Orange County, and Irvine residents will see it in their mailboxes this fall. According to CMS's 2026 and 2027 Medicare Advantage Landscape files, 21 Medicare Advantage plans offered in Orange County this year will not be back for 2027, 28 new plans are joining the market, and 19 plans are being renamed. Two carriers — Central Health Medicare Plan and Providence Medicare Advantage Plans — are exiting the county entirely, while a new carrier, VillageHealth, is coming in.

Key takeaways

  • 21 Medicare Advantage plans are leaving Orange County after 2026, 28 are new for 2027, and 19 are being renamed; a full plan table appears on this page.
  • Central Health Medicare Plan and Providence Medicare Advantage Plans will not offer Orange County plans in 2027; VillageHealth is new to the county.
  • If your plan is not renewed, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that runs through February 28, 2027, on top of the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7).
  • Read the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your plan mails by late September — it spells out any 2027 changes to your specific plan.

If your current plan is on the "leaving" list, you don't lose Medicare — but you do need to act. Here's what's changing and what your options are.

What's changing in Orange County for 2027

Irvine is in Orange County, where Medicare Advantage availability is set at the county level. For the 2027 plan year, CMS's Landscape files show a busy round of changes:

The table on this page lists every 2026 plan and how it is treated for 2027.

Plans that will not be offered in 2027

If you're enrolled in one of these Orange County plans, it will not renew for 2027, and you'll need to pick something else or return to Original Medicare:

Central Health Medicare Plan and Providence Medicare Advantage Plans are pulling out of Orange County altogether. Their members will get a non-renewal notice.

Plans that are new for 2027

Twenty-eight new plans are joining Orange County for 2027. They span familiar carriers (Aetna, Alignment Health Plan, Astiva, Blue Shield of California, Champion, Clever Care, Humana, Imperial, SCAN and UnitedHealthcare) and one new entrant, VillageHealth, which is bringing two dialysis-focused C-SNPs to the county (SCAN DaVita Dialysis Care and SCAN DaVita Dialysis Care Complete).

New names to look for include Aetna Medicare Chronic Care (C-SNP), Aetna Medicare Eagle (HMO), several Alignment Health Plan additions (including Honor Plus 060 and Platinum Preferred plans), Central Health Harmony 001 and Harmony Plus 002 (now offered by Alignment Health Plan), Astiva C-SNP Bloom and Fountain, Blue Shield Advantage, Champion Anwell, Champion Compass, Champion Home and Champion Secure, Clever Care Breathe Select+ and Total Choice+, Humana Gold Plus H3767-002, Imperial Flex, several new SCAN plans (Ansim Care, Baekse, Costco Medicare Advantage, Inclusive, Select and CareMore Health Plan by SCAN), and AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC CA-46.

Being "new" doesn't mean better or worse — it means it wasn't sold here in 2026. You'll want to compare it the same way you'd compare any other plan.

Renamed plans — same plan, new label

Nineteen plans are being renamed for 2027. Most are Alignment Health Plan plans getting numbered suffixes (for example, Alignment Health Balance is now Alignment Health Balance 033, and Alignment Health My Choice is now Alignment Health My Choice 001). Aetna Medicare Signature (HMO) is becoming Aetna Medicare Signature Legacy (HMO), Wellcare Dual Liberty is becoming Wellcare Health Net Dual Liberty, and three AARP Medicare Advantage plans from UnitedHealthcare are getting new ID codes.

If your plan is just renamed, you don't have to do anything to stay enrolled — but you should still read the ANOC, because the plan may also be on the "changing" list.

What Irvine members should do — and by when

1. Watch your mail in late September. Every Medicare Advantage plan is required to send an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) explaining what's different for 2027. If your plan is not being renewed, you'll get a separate non-renewal letter.

2. Use the Annual Enrollment Period: October 15 – December 7, 2026. This is when anyone with Medicare can switch, drop or join a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan for the following year.

3. If your plan is leaving, you also have a Special Enrollment Period through the end of February 2027. CMS gives members of non-renewing plans extra time to pick a new Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare with a stand-alone Part D plan.

4. Remember Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment: January 1 – March 31, 2027. If you're already in a Medicare Advantage plan on January 1, you get one chance to switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or move to Original Medicare.

5. Check your doctors, hospitals and drugs. Before you switch, confirm your providers are in the new plan's network and your prescriptions are on the formulary.
