Click to call 855-729-3240Torrance is in Los Angeles County, where 121 Medicare Advantage plans are available for 2026, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) plan landscape data. That's the pool residents can choose from during this year's Annual Enrollment Period, which runs October 15 through December 7.
Here's what the numbers look like — and what they mean for you.
The Torrance-area Medicare landscape by the numbers
For the 2026 plan year, Los Angeles County residents have access to:
- 121 Medicare Advantage plans (most include Part D drug coverage)
- 19 carriers offering Medicare Advantage plans with prescription drug coverage (MA-PD)
- A 65+ population of about 1,487,700 countywide — one of the largest senior populations of any county in the country
That's a big menu. And because Medicare plan availability is set at the county level, every option available anywhere in Los Angeles County is technically on the table for someone living in Torrance — though networks, service areas, and provider access vary from plan to plan.
Why the plan count matters (and why it doesn't)
A big number of plans can feel reassuring, but it can also feel overwhelming. Here's the honest read:
- More plans mean more variety in networks, drug formularies, and extra benefits.
- More plans also mean more fine print to compare.
- The "right" number of plans for you is really just one — the plan that fits your doctors, your medications, and your budget.
The count is a starting point, not a scoreboard. Nobody needs to compare all 121 plans. Most people narrow the list quickly once they filter for their doctors and prescriptions.
Stand-alone Part D in Los Angeles County
The CMS landscape file shows 0 stand-alone Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs) counted separately for the Los Angeles County MA landscape for 2026. That doesn't mean drug coverage is unavailable — the vast majority of Medicare Advantage plans in the county include Part D built in (MA-PD).
If you stay with Original Medicare (Parts A and B) and want drug coverage, stand-alone Part D plans are offered on a regional basis across California, and you can view them at Medicare.gov's Plan Finder.
What's new for Part D in 2026
A few program-level changes apply to everyone with Medicare drug coverage, no matter which plan you pick:
- A $2,100 out-of-pocket cap on covered Part D drugs. Once you hit it, you pay $0 for covered prescriptions the rest of the year.
- A maximum Part D deductible of $615.
- The coverage gap ("donut hole") is gone as of 2025. Part D now has three phases instead of four.
- The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread your drug costs into monthly payments across the year at no extra charge. It's optional — you have to opt in.
- IRMAA surcharges (higher Part B and Part D premiums for higher earners) start above $109,000 in income for single filers in 2026.
These are program rules, not plan-by-plan features — they apply across the board.
About Star Ratings in the area
CMS publishes Star Ratings each year to help people gauge plan quality on things like customer service and preventive care. For the Los Angeles County area, the current landscape shows 0 contracts rated 4 stars or higher in the specific data set we reviewed for this snapshot. That doesn't mean plans are low quality — ratings can shift year to year, and CMS updates them regularly. Use ratings as one data point among many, not as a shortcut.
You can look up any plan's current Star Rating at Medicare.gov.
