CAPE CORAL, Fla. — If you have a Medicare Advantage plan in Cape Coral, this fall's mailbox will matter. In Lee County, 24 Medicare Advantage plans are set to leave after 2026, 13 new plans are joining the market for 2027, and another 12 are keeping their coverage but changing names. That is a lot to sort through before the December 7 deadline.

Key takeaways

  • In Lee County, 24 Medicare Advantage plans are leaving after 2026, 13 are new for 2027, and 12 are being renamed.
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC) will not offer Medicare Advantage plans in the county next year, while Devoted Health is entering for 2027.
  • If your plan is not renewed, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7 — that's when most members should compare and choose.

The changes come from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare Advantage Landscape Source Files, comparing what carriers offered in Lee County for 2026 with what they have filed for 2027. Cape Coral is in Lee County, so these county-level filings shape the choices for local residents.

What "leaving," "new" and "renamed" really mean

A plan leaving the county is one the carrier will not offer to Lee County residents in 2027. If you're enrolled in one of these, you'll receive a non-renewal notice.

A new plan is one being offered in Lee County for the first time in 2027. This includes plans from a carrier already here, plus any plans from Devoted Health, which is entering the county next year.

A renamed plan is the same contract with a new label. Your coverage is not disappearing, but the name on your card or paperwork may change. Renaming can also come with other adjustments, so you'll want to read the fine print.

Separately, CMS records show 23 continuing plans have at least one change on file for 2027 — that could be premium, deductible, plan type or name. We are not going to guess at the specifics; your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) will spell out exactly what is different for your plan.

Which plans are leaving Lee County after 2026

The 24 non-renewing plans, listed alphabetically by carrier, include:

Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC) will not have any Medicare Advantage plans in Lee County for 2027. If you are enrolled in one of the HealthSpring plans, you will need to pick something else or return to Original Medicare.

What's new for 2027

Thirteen plans are being added in Lee County for 2027. Highlights include the arrival of Devoted Health, a carrier that has not previously sold Medicare Advantage in the county, with DEVOTED CHOICE GIVEBACK 016 FL (PPO). Other new options come from Aetna (CVS Health), Align Senior Care, Elevance Health (Anthem), Florida Blue, Florida Blue HMO, Humana and UnitedHealthcare. The table below lists every plan available for the coming year.

Renamed plans — same coverage, new label

Twelve plans are keeping their contracts but changing names. Examples include Aetna Medicare Signature Legacy (PPO), which was Aetna Medicare Signature (PPO); Wellcare Giveback and Wellcare Simple, both moving from HMO to HMO-POS; and several UnitedHealthcare Dual Complete plans getting new suffixes (for example, UHC Dual Complete FL-Q1 was FL-D003).

If your ID card looks unfamiliar in January, a renaming may be the reason. Your ANOC will confirm.

What to do if your plan is leaving

If you receive a non-renewal letter, you have two windows to act:

1. Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): October 15 through December 7, 2026. This is the main window for anyone with Medicare to change Advantage or Part D plans for 2027. 2. Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for non-renewal: If your plan is ending, CMS gives you an SEP that runs through the end of February 2027. You can use it to join a different Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare with a stand-alone Part D plan.

There is also the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 through March 31 for those already in an MA plan who want to switch once.

A few program-level facts worth keeping in mind while you compare:

How to compare your options

1. Read your ANOC. It arrives by late September and shows exactly what is changing on your current plan. 2. Check your doctors and drugs. Log in to medicare.gov's Plan Finder, enter your prescriptions and preferred pharmacy, and confirm your providers are in-network for any plan you're considering. 3. Look at the whole picture, not just premium — total out-of-pocket costs, drug tiers, and rules like referrals or prior authorization vary widely. 4. Ask for help. Florida's SHINE program (Florida's State Health Insurance Assistance Program, or SHIP) offers free, unbiased counseling.

Frequently asked questions

My Medicare Advantage plan is leaving Cape Coral. Will I lose coverage on January 1?
No. You will not be dropped from Medicare itself. But if you don't choose a new Medicare Advantage or Part D plan during AEP, you'll return to Original Medicare on January 1 without drug coverage. You can still use the Special Enrollment Period through the end of February 2027 to pick a new plan.
What if my plan's name changed but I want to keep it?
Usually you don't have to do anything — a renaming keeps your enrollment in place. Still, read the Annual Notice of Change to see whether the premium, deductible or other details are different next year.
Is Devoted Health replacing another carrier in Lee County?
Not directly. Devoted Health is simply new to the county for 2027. Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC), the carrier behind the HealthSpring plans, is exiting Lee County for 2027, but those changes are independent of one another.
Where can I get personalized help comparing plans?
Call **1-800-MEDICARE** (24/7), visit **medicare.gov** to use the Plan Finder, or contact Florida's **SHINE** program for free one-on-one counseling from trained volunteers. ## Where to go from here Plan changes in Lee County are meaningful this year, but you have time and tools to work through them.
