Pembroke Pines, Fla. — Medicare's fall enrollment window is open, and if you live in Pembroke Pines, your mailbox has probably filled up with plan notices. There is a reason. Broward County's Medicare Advantage lineup is shifting for 2027: 29 plans are leaving after 2026, 16 are brand new, and 19 are keeping their coverage but swapping names. One carrier, Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC), is not offering Medicare Advantage plans in the county next year.
Key takeaways
- In Broward County, 29 Medicare Advantage plans are leaving after 2026, 16 are new for 2027, and 19 are being renamed; another 41 continue but change on premium, deductible, type or name.
- If your plan is not being renewed, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027 to pick a new plan.
- The regular Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, and Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment runs Jan. 1 through March 31.
- Read the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your plan mailed in September — it lists exactly what is different for your specific plan in 2027.
If you are on a plan that is going away, you have more time than most people realize — but only if you know the rules.
What's actually changing in Broward County
Pembroke Pines is in Broward County, where Medicare Advantage availability is set. For 2027, the county has 87 plans from 16 carriers — down from 119 plans and 17 carriers in 2026 — and the mix is different.
Here is what the CMS Landscape files show for the county:
- 29 plans leaving after 2026. Members on these plans need to make a choice.
- 16 new plans for 2027. Some come from carriers that are already here, and some fill the space left by plans that are exiting.
- 19 renamed plans. These are the same plans continuing under a new name — your coverage is not ending, but the ID and paperwork will look different.
- 41 continuing plans with changes on premium, deductible, type or name. Your Annual Notice of Change has the specifics.
- 71 plans continuing with no headline change in the CMS file (though details can still shift year to year).
The table on this page lists every plan available in the county for the coming year.
Which plans are leaving after 2026
If you are on one of these plans, it will not be available in Broward County in 2027. Carriers with plans exiting include Aetna (CVS Health), Align Senior Care, AmeriHealth Caritas VIP Care, Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC), Centene (WellCare), Doctors HealthCare Plans, Elevance Health (Anthem), Humana and UnitedHealthcare.
A few notes to help you read your mail:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC) is not offering Medicare Advantage plans in the county next year. Both HealthSpring Preferred (HMO) and HealthSpring TotalCare (HMO D-SNP) are leaving.
- Align Senior Care's Premier Care (HMO I-SNP) and Senior Care (HMO I-SNP) appear on both the leaving list and the new-for-2027 list. That is a CMS contract change — the plan name is the same but the underlying contract is not. Members should treat it as a new plan and confirm their doctors and drugs before enrolling.
- AmeriHealth Caritas VIP Care (HMO D-SNP) is in the same situation — leaving one contract and returning under a new one for 2027.
- Elevance Health (Anthem) has the largest list of plans leaving, including several Simply-branded and Freedom-branded plans.
New plans coming for 2027
Sixteen plans are new to Broward County for 2027. New offerings are coming from Aetna (CVS Health), Align Senior Care, AmeriHealth Caritas VIP Care, Centene (WellCare), Devoted Health, Doctors HealthCare Plans, Gold Kidney Health Plan, Humana and Solis Health Plans.
If your current plan is leaving, a new plan from the same carrier is not automatic — you still have to choose. And if you have a Special Needs Plan (SNP) for a chronic condition, dual eligibility or an institutional setting, only certain plans will fit you.
Renamed plans — same coverage, new name
Nineteen plans in the county are being renamed for 2027. Some carriers with renamed plans include Aetna (CVS Health), Centene (WellCare), Devoted Health, Doctors HealthCare Plans, Humana and UnitedHealthcare.
A rename is not the same as a cancellation. If your plan is only being renamed, you don't need to switch to keep the same coverage — but your ID card and paperwork will change, and other details in the plan can also change year to year. That is what the ANOC is for.
What to do if your plan is not being renewed
If CMS lists your Medicare Advantage plan as non-renewing after Dec. 31, 2026, you get a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027. During that window you can:
- Join a different Medicare Advantage plan, or
- Return to Original Medicare (Parts A and B) and, if you want, add a stand-alone Part D drug plan.
You do not have to wait for the SEP. During the Annual Enrollment Period, Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, you can switch to any plan available for 2027 with coverage starting Jan. 1. And during Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment, Jan. 1 – March 31, anyone already in an MA plan can make one change.
A short checklist before you enroll:
1. Find the Annual Notice of Change your plan sent in September. 2. Make a list of your prescriptions, your doctors and any facilities you use. 3. Use the Plan Finder at medicare.gov to compare the 2027 plans in ZIP codes that cover Pembroke Pines. 4. Call the plan to confirm your providers are in-network for 2027 before you enroll.
A few program facts worth knowing
These apply nationwide, not just here, but they matter when you compare plans:
- Part D has a new $2,100 out-of-pocket cap for 2026.
- The Part D maximum deductible is $615.
- The old "donut hole" coverage gap is gone; Part D now has three phases.
- The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread drug costs over the year in monthly installments.
- IRMAA income-related surcharges start above $109,000 for a single filer in 2026.
