RENO, Nev. — The 2027 Medicare Advantage lineup in Washoe County looks different from 2026. According to the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source Files, 12 plans sold here this year will not return next year, 7 new plans are coming in, and 11 plans are being renamed. Another 12 will continue but with a change to premium, deductible, plan type or name. If you are on one of the plans that is leaving, the clock has already started — and this article walks through what to look for and when.

Key takeaways

  • In Washoe County, 12 Medicare Advantage plans are leaving after 2026, 7 are new for 2027, and 11 are being renamed.
  • Molina Healthcare of Nevada will not offer Medicare Advantage plans in the county next year.
  • If your plan is not being renewed, you get a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7 — that's your main window to switch.

What's changing in Washoe County for 2027

Reno is in Washoe County, where plan availability is set. Here's the shape of the change, straight from the CMS year-over-year comparison:

One carrier is exiting the county: Molina Healthcare of Nevada will not offer a Medicare Advantage plan in Washoe County in 2027. If you are enrolled in its plan today, you will need to choose a new plan or return to Original Medicare.

Plans not returning after 2026

If you're in one of these, you'll get a formal non-renewal letter from your plan. The table below lists every plan; these are the ones ending in this county:

If any of these names match your current card, read the next section carefully.

New plans coming to Washoe County in 2027

These plans will show up on the Medicare Plan Finder for the first time next year:

Several are Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs), which have their own eligibility rules tied to Medicaid.

Plans that are just being renamed

Eleven plans are keeping their contract but changing their name on your paperwork. That can be confusing when your ANOC arrives, so here is the "was/now" list:

A rename alone does not mean your benefits changed — but always read the ANOC to be sure.

What to do if your plan is leaving

1. Watch the mail in late September and October. Every Medicare Advantage plan is required to send an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) by Sept. 30, and a separate non-renewal notice if the plan is ending.

2. Use the Annual Enrollment Period. From October 15 through December 7, you can switch to any other Medicare Advantage plan available in Washoe County, or move back to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D drug plan.

3. If you don't act by Dec. 7, you have a Special Enrollment Period. When a plan is non-renewed, CMS gives affected members a Special Enrollment Period that runs from Dec. 8 through the end of February 2027 to pick a new Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare with a Part D plan. You will not be left without coverage — Original Medicare will pick you up on Jan. 1 if you take no action — but if you want a Medicare Advantage plan again, use that window.

4. Check your doctors and prescriptions on the new plan. Networks and drug formularies vary. The Plan Finder at medicare.gov lets you enter your drugs and preferred pharmacy to compare.

5. If a plan is only "changing" (not leaving), still read the ANOC. CMS flags 12 continuing plans in Washoe County as having a change to premium, deductible, plan type or name. The specifics are in your ANOC.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if my Medicare Advantage plan is not renewed and I do nothing?
You will be returned to Original Medicare (Parts A and B) on January 1, 2027. You would not automatically get drug coverage, so if you want Part D or a Medicare Advantage plan, use the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7) or the Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027.
Is a renamed plan the same as my current plan?
Usually the underlying contract is the same, but the plan may still have changes to premium, deductible, network or drug list. Always read the Annual Notice of Change your plan mails you before Sept. 30.
Can I switch plans in January if I don't like what I picked?
Yes. The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs January 1 through March 31. During that window, if you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can switch to another Medicare Advantage plan once, or drop it and return to
