Fall 2026 — If you have a Medicare Advantage plan in Jersey City, this is the season to read your mail carefully. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has posted the 2027 plan landscape, and Hudson County — where Jersey City sits — will see 10 plans leave, 10 new plans arrive, 2 renamed plans, and 10 more with a change to their terms. Two carriers, Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC) and Braven Health, will not offer Medicare Advantage plans in the county next year, and one new carrier, Devoted Health, is entering.
Key takeaways
- Ten Medicare Advantage plans in Hudson County will not renew for 2027, and members of those plans get a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February to pick a new plan.
- Devoted Health is new to Hudson County for 2027, while Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC) and Braven Health will not offer Medicare Advantage plans here next year.
- Your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), mailed by late September, spells out exactly what is changing on your plan for 2027.
- The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, and Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment runs January 1 through March 31.
What is changing in Hudson County for 2027
Jersey City is in Hudson County, where CMS records show 48 Medicare Advantage plans from 10 carriers for 2026 and 46 plans from 9 carriers for 2027. Comparing the 2026 and 2027 Landscape Source Files, here is how the county lineup shifts:
- 10 plans leaving after 2026
- 10 new plans for 2027
- 2 plans renamed (same plan, new name)
- 10 continuing plans changing on premium, deductible, type or name
- 36 plans continuing with no listed change
- 2 carriers exiting: Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC) and Braven Health
- 1 carrier entering: Devoted Health
The table below lists every plan available in the county. Below, we walk through what each bucket means for you.
Plans that will not be offered in 2027
If you are enrolled in one of the plans below, it will not renew for 2027. You will get a non-renewal letter from your plan, usually in early October.
Plans leaving after 2026:
- Aetna Medicare Enhanced Extra (PPO) — Aetna (CVS Health)
- HealthSpring True Choice (PPO) — Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC)
- Braven Medicare Choice (PPO) — Braven Health
- Braven Medicare Choice Plus (PPO) — Braven Health
- Braven Medicare Freedom (PPO) — Braven Health
- Braven Medicare Salute - No Rx (PPO) — Braven Health
- Wellcare Giveback (HMO-POS) — Centene (WellCare)
- Wellcare Patriot Simple (HMO-POS) — Centene (WellCare)
- Wellcare Simple (HMO-POS) — Centene (WellCare)
- Wellpoint Full Dual Advantage Secure (HMO-POS D-SNP) — Elevance Health (Anthem)
Because two carriers — Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC) and Braven Health — are pulling out of Hudson County altogether, members with those plans will need to choose a new Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare (and, if you want drug coverage, a stand-alone Part D plan).
If you do nothing, you will generally revert to Original Medicare on January 1, 2027, without a Part D plan. That is why acting during the Annual Enrollment Period matters.
New plans and a new carrier for 2027
Ten plans are new to Hudson County for 2027, including six from a carrier new to the county, Devoted Health:
- DEVOTED C-SNP CHOICE ENHANCED 004 NJ (PPO C-SNP) — Devoted Health
- DEVOTED C-SNP CHOICE GIVEBACK EXTRAS 005 NJ (PPO C-SNP) — Devoted Health
- DEVOTED C-SNP CHOICE PLUS 003 NJ (PPO C-SNP) — Devoted Health
- DEVOTED CHOICE 001 NJ (PPO) — Devoted Health
- DEVOTED CHOICE GIVEBACK 002 NJ (PPO) — Devoted Health
- DEVOTED CHOICE GIVEBACK EXTRAS 006 NJ (PPO) — Devoted Health
- Wellpoint Extra Help (HMO) — Elevance Health (Anthem)
- Horizon Specialty Care (HMO C-SNP) — Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey
- HumanaChoice Giveback H7617-127 (PPO) — Humana
- UHC Complete Care NJ-8 (HMO-POS C-SNP) — UnitedHealthcare
A few of these are Chronic Condition Special Needs Plans (C-SNPs), which are limited to people with qualifying conditions such as diabetes or certain heart conditions. Others are open to any Medicare-eligible resident of the service area.
Renamed plans (same plan, new name)
Two plans are keeping their contract but changing their name for 2027:
- Aetna Medicare Enhanced (Regional PPO) was Aetna Medicare Signature (Regional PPO)
- Aetna Medicare Enhanced Extra (PPO) was Aetna Medicare Signature (PPO)
If you see one of these new names in mail from Aetna, it is the same plan under a new label. Your ANOC will confirm the details.
Plans that are continuing but have changes
Ten more plans in the county are continuing into 2027 but differ from their 2026 version in some way. CMS's Landscape file only flags that a change exists — the specifics live in your ANOC. Read that document, or the Evidence of Coverage that follows, before you assume next year works like this year.
Some things worth checking on any continuing plan:
- Does the monthly premium change?
- Does the deductible for medical or drug coverage change?
- Are your doctors and hospitals still in-network?
- Are your prescriptions still on the formulary and at the same tier?
- Are extras like dental, vision, hearing or over-the-counter allowances the same?
What to do, step by step
If your plan is leaving: You qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that runs through the end of February 2027 to pick a new Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare with a stand-alone Part D plan. You do not have to wait — you can also make the switch during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), October 15 through December 7, 2026, for coverage starting January 1.
If your plan is continuing: Compare the 2027 version to your current coverage using your ANOC. If it still fits, you do not have to do anything. If it does not, you can switch during AEP.
If you are already on Medicare Advantage on January 1: You have a second window, Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment, from January 1 through March 31, 2027. During that window you can switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or move to Original Medicare (with a Part D plan if you want drug coverage). You get one change during this period.
A few program facts worth knowing
While you compare plans, keep these federal figures in mind — they apply to every Part D and Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage:
- The Part D out-of-pocket cap is $2,100 in 2026 and $2,400 in 2027.
- The Part D maximum deductible is $615.
- The coverage gap ("donut hole") has been eliminated since 2025; there are now three drug-cost phases.
- The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread drug costs over the year in level monthly amounts, if you choose.
- IRMAA income surcharges for Part B and Part D begin above $109,000 in income for a single filer in 2026.
