MyMedicarePlans.org is an independent consumer site. We are not Humana, and we are not Medicare. Humana is one of nine carriers offering Medicare Advantage plans in Wake County for 2027 — together those carriers offer 63 plans — so this article is a snapshot of just one carrier's roster.
Humana's 2027 plans in Wake County, by type
Raleigh sits in Wake County, where Medicare Advantage availability is set. For 2027, Humana's 18 plans here break down as:
- HMO: 4
- HMO-POS: 5
- PPO: 9
Every one of Humana's 2027 plans in the county includes Part D prescription drug coverage. The table on this page lists each plan by name and type.
The plan-type label matters because it shapes how you use the plan. HMO plans generally ask you to use in-network providers and often require a referral to see a specialist. HMO-POS plans are HMOs with a limited "point-of-service" option to go out of network for certain services. PPO plans typically let you see out-of-network providers, usually at a higher cost share. None of that is a recommendation — it is just how CMS defines the categories.
Special Needs Plans in the Humana lineup
Six of Humana's 18 Wake County plans for 2027 are Special Needs Plans (SNPs). These are built for people who meet specific eligibility rules:
- D-SNP (Dual Eligible): 5 plans, for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid.
- C-SNP (Chronic Condition): 1 plan, for people with a qualifying condition such as diabetes or certain heart conditions.
- I-SNP (Institutional): 0 plans.
You cannot simply pick a SNP the way you pick a general MA plan — you have to qualify. If you think you might, Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE can confirm.
What's new, what's not returning, and what's renamed
For 2027, Humana's Wake County roster has three kinds of changes:
- New for 2027: two plans join the Raleigh-area lineup.
- Not returning in 2027: two plans from 2026 will not be offered next year. If you are enrolled in a plan that is leaving, you will get a non-renewal letter from Humana, and you have a Special Enrollment Period to pick a new plan.
- Renamed: one plan carries a new name for 2027. A rename is not the same as a new plan, but benefits and costs can still change — the ANOC is where to look.
The table below shows every 2027 plan with its type and SNP status. We are not listing which specific plans are new, leaving or renamed in prose because the point of this article is to send you to the authoritative source for your own plan: your mailed ANOC and the Plan Finder.
How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions
Before December 7, 2026, it is worth spending 20 minutes doing this check — even if you plan to stay put.
1. Gather your prescriptions. Write down the drug name, dose and how often you take it. 2. List your doctors and preferred pharmacy. Include specialists you see regularly. 3. Go to medicare.gov/plan-compare. Log in with your Medicare account so your drugs save between visits. Enter your ZIP code (any Raleigh ZIP in Wake County will do), then filter by Medicare Advantage. 4. Add your drugs and pharmacy. The tool will show each plan's estimated yearly drug cost based on your list. 5. Check the network. Click into a plan and search for each of your doctors by name. Networks and formularies change every January 1. 6. Call to confirm. For anything that matters, call the plan directly using the number on medicare.gov, or call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), available 24/7.
If you prefer paper, your plan's Evidence of Coverage and provider directory on the carrier's website are the official documents.
2027 Part D figures worth knowing
Two Part D numbers are set for 2027 and apply to any Medicare drug plan, including the drug coverage built into Humana's MA plans:
- Part D out-of-pocket cap: $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026). Once your out-of-pocket spending on covered drugs hits that cap, you pay $0 for covered drugs the rest of the year.
- Part D maximum deductible: $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026). Plans can charge less; they cannot charge more.
The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not been announced yet. CMS typically publishes those in the fall, usually in November.
If paying drug costs in a single month is a strain, remember the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan — an optional program that lets you spread your Part D out-of-pocket costs across the calendar year in monthly bills instead of at the pharmacy counter.
If you do nothing
Nothing happens automatically to a Humana enrollee whose plan is returning for 2027 — your coverage renews January 1 with the changes described in your ANOC. If your plan is one of the two not returning, you need to pick a new plan during AEP (or use the Special Enrollment Period triggered by the non-renewal) to avoid a gap in Medicare Advantage coverage.
