EUGENE, Ore. — If you have a Medicare Advantage plan in the Eugene area, this is the fall to read your mail carefully. The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) landscape files for 2027 show real movement in Lane County: 15 plans are leaving after 2026, 7 new plans are coming in, 5 are being renamed, and one carrier — Providence Medicare Advantage Plans — will not offer plans in the county next year. Another 24 plans are continuing, and 16 are changing on details like premium, deductible, plan type or name.
Key takeaways
- 15 Medicare Advantage plans are leaving Lane County after 2026, and 7 new plans are entering for 2027.
- Providence Medicare Advantage Plans will not offer coverage in Lane County next year; its four local plans are among those ending.
- If your plan is not being renewed, you get a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February to pick a new plan.
- The Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, and Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment runs Jan. 1 through March 31.
Here is what that means for a Eugene resident, and what to do before the deadlines pass.
What is changing in Lane County for 2027
Eugene is in Lane County, where Medicare Advantage availability is set. Compared with 2026, the 2027 CMS landscape shows:
- 15 plans leaving after 2026
- 7 plans new for 2027
- 5 plans renamed
- 16 plans changing on premium, deductible, type or name (specifics are in each plan's Annual Notice of Change)
- 24 plans continuing without those changes
The biggest single shift is that Providence Medicare Advantage Plans is exiting Lane County. Its four local plans — Providence Medicare Extra + Rx (HMO), Providence Medicare Focus Medical (HMO), Providence Medicare Reverence (HMO-POS), and Providence Medicare Timber + Rx (HMO) — are all listed as leaving.
Plans leaving after 2026
If you are enrolled in one of these plans, you will need to choose a new plan or return to Original Medicare for 2027:
- Centene (WellCare): Wellcare Dual Access (HMO-POS D-SNP), Wellcare Dual Reserve (HMO-POS D-SNP), and Wellcare Simple Open (PPO)
- Devoted Health: DEVOTED CORE 003 OR (HMO), DEVOTED GIVEBACK 004 OR (HMO), and DEVOTED PREMIUM 006 OR (HMO)
- PacificSource Medicare: PacificSource Medicare Essentials Rx 41 (HMO), PacificSource Medicare Explorer 6 (PPO), and PacificSource Medicare Explorer Rx 4 (PPO)
- Providence Medicare Advantage Plans: all four plans listed above
- UnitedHealthcare: AARP Medicare Advantage Essentials from UHC OR-4 (HMO-POS) and AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC OR-0003 (HMO-POS)
Members in a non-renewed plan will get a written notice from the plan. Keep it — it is proof of your Special Enrollment Period.
Plans new for 2027
Seven new options are coming to Lane County next year:
- Centene (WellCare): Wellcare Low Premium Value Open (PPO)
- Devoted Health: DEVOTED C-SNP GIVEBACK EXTRAS 018 OR (HMO C-SNP), DEVOTED CORE 026 OR (HMO), DEVOTED GIVEBACK 028 OR (HMO), DEVOTED GIVEBACK EXTRAS 024 OR (HMO), and DEVOTED PREMIUM 027 OR (HMO)
- UnitedHealthcare: AARP Medicare Advantage Essentials from UHC OR-7 (HMO-POS)
The table on this page lists every plan available in Lane County, with type and drug coverage.
Plans being renamed
A rename can look like a new plan in your mail, so it helps to know these were already here in 2026:
- Wellcare Low Premium Open (PPO) — was Wellcare Giveback Open (PPO)
- Wellcare Premium Enhanced Open (PPO) — was Wellcare Low Premium Open (PPO)
- Wellcare Trillium Health Plan Dual Select Sync (HMO D-SNP) — was Wellcare Dual Select Sync (HMO-POS D-SNP)
- PacificSource Medicare Oregon Basic (HMO-POS) — was PacificSource Medicare Essentials Choice 2 (HMO-POS)
- PacificSource Medicare Valley Select Rx (HMO-POS) — was PacificSource Medicare Essentials Choice Rx 36 (HMO-POS)
Note that two Wellcare plans took each other's names — the name "Wellcare Low Premium Open (PPO)" now belongs to a different plan than it did in 2026. Read your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) rather than relying on the name alone.
What to do if your plan is leaving
You have two enrollment windows to use:
- Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. This is when most people compare and switch plans for the coming year.
- Special Enrollment Period for a non-renewed plan: If your plan is not offered in 2027, you get an SEP that runs through the end of February to enroll in another Medicare Advantage plan or a stand-alone Part D plan, or to return to Original Medicare.
- Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period: Jan. 1 through March 31, for people already in a Medicare Advantage plan who want to switch once.
A short checklist:
1. Read the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) that arrived by late September. It spells out any 2027 changes to your current plan. 2. Make a list of your doctors, hospitals and prescriptions. 3. Use the Plan Finder at medicare.gov to compare Lane County options side by side. 4. Call your local State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). In Oregon, SHIBA offers free, unbiased help at 1-800-722-4134.
