Key takeaways

  • Eleven Medicare Advantage plans sold in Shelby County in 2026 do not appear in CMS's 2027 file for the county; the full list is below.
  • Members of a non-renewing plan get a written notice from the carrier and a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027.
  • If you do nothing, you are not left without coverage: on January 1, 2027 you fall back to Original Medicare (Parts A and B), but you would not have Part D drug coverage.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 – December 7, 2026, and changes made then take effect January 1, 2027.

MEMPHIS — Fall 2026. If you are on a Medicare Advantage plan in Memphis, check your mail this month. Eleven Medicare Advantage plans offered in Shelby County in 2026 are not on the 2027 Medicare Advantage Landscape file for the county, according to CMS. If one of them is yours, the carrier is required to send you a non-renewal letter — and you have a few options and a bit more time than most people realize.

The 11 plans not coming back to Shelby County in 2027

These Medicare Advantage plans are offered in Shelby County in 2026 but are not in CMS's 2027 Landscape file for the county. Listed alphabetically by carrier, exactly as CMS lists them:

For context: Memphis is in Shelby County, where 73 Medicare Advantage plans from 12 carriers were offered in 2026. For 2027, 74 plans from 11 carriers will be offered in the county. The table on this page lists every 2027 plan, with carrier and plan type.

How you'll know your plan is one of them

Carriers are required to mail a non-renewal notice to every affected member, typically arriving in late September or early October. The letter will say, in plain language, that your plan will not be offered in 2027 and that your coverage under that plan ends December 31, 2026.

Look for:

If you also received an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) booklet instead, that means your plan is continuing but changing; read it for what's different in 2027. The non-renewal letter is a separate, shorter notice.

What happens if you do nothing

If your plan is on the list above and you do not pick a new plan by December 31, 2026, you will not be left without Medicare. On January 1, 2027, you automatically go back to Original Medicare — Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical).

The important catch: Original Medicare does not include Part D prescription drug coverage. If you want drug coverage in 2027, you need to actively enroll in either a standalone Part D plan or a new Medicare Advantage plan that includes drugs. Otherwise, you could face a late enrollment penalty later and have no help with prescription costs starting January 1.

Your choices and your Special Enrollment Period

Because your plan is non-renewing, Medicare gives you a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that runs from December 8, 2026 through the end of February 2027. That is on top of the regular Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2026). You can:

1. Pick a new Medicare Advantage plan for 2027. Shelby County has 74 Medicare Advantage plans listed for 2027. Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov to compare based on your doctors, prescriptions and pharmacy. 2. Stay with Original Medicare and add a standalone Part D drug plan. You can enroll in a Part D plan during the same SEP. 3. Consider a Medigap (Medicare Supplement) policy. When your Medicare Advantage plan non-renews and you return to Original Medicare, federal law gives you a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap policies without medical underwriting — meaning the insurer cannot turn you down or charge more for health reasons. Tennessee may have additional rules; the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance can answer state-specific questions.

A few 2027 program figures that apply no matter which path you choose: the Part D out-of-pocket cap is $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026), and the Part D maximum deductible is $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026). CMS will publish the 2027 Part B premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, later this fall.

Frequently asked questions

What if I never got a non-renewal letter but think my plan is ending?
Call the member services number on the back of your plan ID card and ask directly whether your plan is being offered in 2027. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), available 24/7, or check your plan on medicare.gov.
If my plan ends, can I get a Medigap policy without being asked health questions?
Yes, in most cases. When a Medicare Advantage plan non-renews and you return to Original Medicare, federal law gives you a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap policies without medical underwriting. The window is time-limited, so act within the dates on the notice from your plan. State rules vary; contact the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance for state specifics.
I'm in a Dual Special Needs Plan that's on the list. Will I lose my Medicaid?
No. Medicaid eligibility is separate from your Medicare Advantage plan. If your D-SNP is ending, you still keep Medicaid; you just need to choose a new Medicare plan. TennCare can confirm your Medicaid status, and 1-800-MEDICARE can help you find another D-SNP in Shelby County for 2027.
Does the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period in January give me another chance?
Yes, if you end up in a Medicare Advantage plan on January 1, 2027 and want to switch, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (January 1 – March 31, 2027) lets you make one change — to a different Medicare Advantage plan or back to Original Medicare with a Part D plan. ## Where to get help **medicare.gov** — the Plan Finder lets you enter your prescriptions and doctors and compare every 2027 plan available in your ZIP code. **1-800-MEDICARE** (TTY 1-877-486-2048) — available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. **Your plan's Evidence of Coverage and provider directory** — the only source for the exact benefits, networks and drug list of a specific plan. **Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance** — for state-specific Medigap questions.
