Medicare 2026
Denver Medicare in 2027: the Part D numbers CMS has locked, and what to watch for
DENVER — Fall 2026 is here, and so is the one window each year when most people on Medicare can change how their coverage works. The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and any choice you make in that window takes effect January 1, 2027.

Key takeaways
- The Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to **$2,400 in 2027**, up from $2,100 in 2026.
- CMS has **not yet published** the 2027 Part B premium, deductible, or IRMAA brackets; those come later in the fall.
- Your plan's **Annual Notice of Change (ANOC)** arrived in September — it lists exactly what is changing on your current plan for 2027.
- Denver is in Denver County, where **71 Medicare Advantage plans from 12 carriers** are offered for 2026; the 2027 lineup includes some plans not returning, some new, and some renamed.
For 2027, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has already confirmed some key Part D drug coverage numbers. Others — including the 2027 Part B premium and the IRMAA income brackets — are still to come later this fall. Here is what Denver residents can act on now, and what to keep an eye out for.
What CMS has confirmed for 2027
Three Part D figures are already set for next year:
- Part D out-of-pocket cap: $2,400 in 2027 (it is $2,100 in 2026). Once your out-of-pocket spending on covered drugs reaches that amount, you pay $0 for covered drugs the rest of the year.
- Part D maximum deductible: $700 in 2027 (it is $615 in 2026). Plans can set a lower deductible, but not higher.
- Part D national base beneficiary premium: $41.33 for 2027. This is a formula input CMS uses — it is not what any specific plan charges.
The coverage gap (the old "donut hole") is already gone as of 2025, so Part D now has three phases: deductible, initial coverage, and catastrophic. The optional Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread your drug costs across the calendar year in monthly bills instead of paying at the pharmacy counter.
What CMS has not announced yet
Two big numbers are still pending:
- The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible. CMS typically announces these in the fall, often in November.
- The 2027 IRMAA income brackets and surcharges — the extra amounts higher-income enrollees pay on Part B and Part D. These are usually published alongside the Part B figures.
For reference, in 2026 IRMAA surcharges begin above $109,000 in income for a single filer. The 2027 thresholds will be released by CMS when the Part B announcement comes out. We will not estimate those numbers — wait for the official figures.
Read your ANOC before you do anything else
If you already have a Medicare Advantage or stand-alone Part D plan, your insurer mailed you an Annual Notice of Change in September. It explains what is changing on your specific plan for 2027: the premium, the deductible, the drug list (formulary), the pharmacy network, and in-network providers.
If you do nothing, your current plan simply renews for 2027 with those changes — assuming it is still being offered. The ANOC is the one document that tells you exactly what will be different about your plan next year. It is worth 20 minutes at the kitchen table before the December 7 deadline.
How Denver's local plan lineup is moving
Medicare Advantage availability is set at the county level. Denver is in Denver County, where 71 Medicare Advantage plans from 12 carriers are offered for 2026, all of them including drug coverage. There are no stand-alone Part D plans listed for the area for 2026, because every MA plan in the county already bundles Part D.
For 2027 in Denver County, CMS Landscape data shows some movement: 18 plans are not returning, 11 are new, and 14 are renamed. A rename does not automatically mean the plan itself is different — but it does mean the name on your card or your mail may look unfamiliar. If your plan is not returning, you will get a non-renewal letter from your insurer, and you have a Special Enrollment Period to pick a new one.
The carriers offering MA plans in Denver County for 2026 include Aetna (CVS Health), Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC), Clear Spring Health, Devoted Health, Elevance Health (Anthem), Elevate Medicare Advantage, Humana, Kaiser Permanente, Longevity Health Plan, Perennial Advantage, Select Health, and UnitedHealthcare. The table below lists every plan available in the county.
What to do between now and December 7
A simple checklist for Denver residents:
1. Open your ANOC and compare 2026 to 2027 for your current plan. 2. Check your drugs. Are they still on the plan's formulary? Did the tier change? 3. Check your doctors and hospitals. Networks can change year to year. 4. Compare on Medicare.gov. The official Plan Finder lets you enter your prescriptions and ZIP code and see every plan available in Denver County side by side. 5. Make a change — or don't. If your plan still fits, you do not have to do anything. If it does not, you have until December 7, 2026 to switch.
If you miss the December 7 deadline, there is still the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 through March 31, 2027. That window is more limited — it is for people already in an MA plan who want to switch to another MA plan or back to Original Medicare — but it is a safety net.
