Key takeaways

  • Long Beach is in Los Angeles County, where 23 Medicare Advantage plans are leaving after 2026, 26 are new for 2027, 23 are renamed, and 75 are continuing.
  • Central Health Medicare Plan will not offer plans in the county next year; members will need to pick a new plan or return to Original Medicare.
  • If your plan is not being renewed, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February to choose new coverage.
  • Watch for your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) — 38 plans in the county have a change on premium, deductible, plan type or name for 2027.

Here is what the numbers say, and what you can do about it during this fall's Annual Enrollment Period, which runs October 15 through December 7, 2026.

What the 2027 data shows for Los Angeles County

Medicare Advantage plans are approved county by county, so the plans sold in Long Beach are the same ones sold across Los Angeles County. Comparing the 2026 and 2027 CMS Landscape files, the county picture looks like this:

The full table on this page lists every plan and carrier available for 2027, and a reader can use it to spot their current plan by name.

The carrier leaving Long Beach

One carrier, Central Health Medicare Plan, will not offer Medicare Advantage plans in Los Angeles County in 2027. That means every Central Health plan sold in Long Beach in 2026 — including Central Health Classic Care Plan I, Central Health Embrace Care Plan, Central Health Embrace Choice Plan, Central Health Jade Plan, Central Health Medicare Plan, Central Health Part B Savings Plan and Central Health Valor Care Plan — is on the leaving list.

If you are enrolled in one of these, you will get a non-renewal letter from your plan. You do not lose Medicare — just this specific plan.

Other plans not returning in 2027

Along with the Central Health plans, several other Medicare Advantage plans available in Los Angeles County are leaving after 2026:

If your plan is on this list, your carrier is required to send you a non-renewal notice by early October. Keep it — you may need it to prove your Special Enrollment Period rights.

New plans coming to the county for 2027

CMS lists 26 new Medicare Advantage plans for Los Angeles County in 2027. They include new offerings from carriers already here, such as Aetna Medicare Eagle (HMO) and Aetna Medicare Chronic Care (HMO C-SNP); Alignment Health Advantage 005 (PPO), Alignment Health BRIDGE 003 (HMO) and Alignment Health Honor Plus 060 (HMO); Central Health Harmony 001 (HMO) and Central Health Harmony Plus 002 (HMO C-SNP) (both under Alignment Health Plan); Astiva Health C-SNP Bloom and Astiva Health C-SNP Fountain; Blue Shield Advantage (HMO) and Blue Shield Value Advantage Plan (HMO); Wellcare Health Net Dual Align (HMO D-SNP); Champion Compass, Home and Secure (HMO C-SNPs); Clever Care Breathe Select+ and Clever Care Total Choice+; Humana Gold Plus H3767-002 (HMO); Imperial Flex (HMO C-SNP); CareMore Health Plan by SCAN (HMO), SCAN Ansim Care, SCAN Baekse, SCAN Costco Medicare Advantage and SCAN Inclusive; AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC CA-45 (HMO-POS); and SCAN DaVita Dialysis Care Complete (HMO-POS C-SNP) from VillageHealth.

New does not mean better or worse. It means it wasn't available last year, so you should check the plan's benefits and provider list before choosing.

Renamed plans — same plan, new name

Twenty-three plans in Los Angeles County kept the same underlying contract but changed their name for 2027. A few examples:

If your plan is renamed, your ANOC will explain it. You do not need to re-enroll.

What to do if your plan is leaving

If your plan will not be offered in 2027, here is the timeline:

1. Read the non-renewal notice. Your carrier must tell you in writing. 2. Compare plans during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7). A new plan chosen in this window starts January 1. 3. Use the Special Enrollment Period if you need more time. Because your plan is ending, Medicare gives you a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February to enroll in a different Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare (and, if you go back to Original Medicare, to add a stand-alone Part D plan). 4. Consider the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period, too. From January 1 – March 31, anyone already in a Medicare Advantage plan can switch once to a different MA plan or to Original Medicare with Part D.

Frequently asked questions

How will I know if my Medicare Advantage plan is changing for 2027?
Your plan must mail an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) by the end of September. It spells out any changes to premium, deductible, benefits, plan name or plan type. If your plan is not being renewed, you will get a separate non-renewal letter. Read both, and compare against the 2027 plans in the table on this page.
My Central Health plan is ending. Do I lose Medicare?
No. You keep Medicare Parts A and B. What ends is your specific Medicare Advantage plan. You can pick a new Medicare Advantage plan in Los Angeles County during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7) or use your Special Enrollment Period, which runs through the end of February, to choose different coverage or return to Original Medicare with a Part D drug plan.
