LEXINGTON, Ky. — As Medicare's fall enrollment window approaches, Fayette County's Medicare Advantage lineup is shifting again. Federal filings show 11 plans will not return in 2027, 12 new plans are joining the market, and 9 plans are keeping the same basics but changing names. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan in Lexington, the mail you're about to receive matters — and in some cases, it triggers a special right to switch.

Key takeaways

  • Eleven Medicare Advantage plans offered in Fayette County in 2026 will not be renewed for 2027, and members of those plans get a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February.
  • Twelve new plans are entering the Fayette County market for 2027, and nine continuing plans have been renamed — the plan itself may not be new, only the label.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, and the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs January 1 through March 31.
  • Read your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) carefully: 14 continuing plans have a change to premium, deductible, plan type or name for 2027.

What's actually changing in Fayette County

Lexington is in Fayette County, where Medicare plan availability is set. According to CMS's 2026 vs. 2027 Landscape files, the county's picture next year looks like this:

The table on this page lists every plan sold in the county. Below, we focus on the movers.

Plans not returning in 2027

If you're enrolled in one of these for 2026, your carrier is required to send you a non-renewal notice, and you'll qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to pick a new plan.

If your plan is on that list, you can: 1. Pick another Medicare Advantage plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7), or 2. Use the non-renewal Special Enrollment Period, which runs from Dec. 8 through the end of February, to switch to another MA plan or return to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D drug plan.

Doing nothing means most members will be moved to Original Medicare on Jan. 1 — which does not include a drug plan, so be sure to make an active choice.

New plans arriving for 2027

Twelve plans are new to Fayette County next year. In alphabetical order by carrier:

Several of these are Special Needs Plans (SNPs) — for people with a specific chronic condition, both Medicare and Medicaid, or an institutional-level need. If you don't meet those eligibility rules, an SNP isn't a fit no matter how attractive it looks on a comparison page.

Renamed plans — same plan, new label

Nine plans in Fayette County kept most of what they were, but changed names for 2027. If you get a notice that seems to describe a "new" plan, check whether it's simply a rename:

A rename doesn't mean nothing else moved — read the ANOC to see what, if anything, is different.

What you should do this fall

Every Medicare Advantage member should receive an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) by the end of September. It spells out what's changing on your plan for 2027 — premium, deductible, plan type or name. Fourteen continuing Fayette County plans have at least one of those changes flagged in CMS's file; the ANOC is where you'll see exactly what.

A simple checklist:

1. Open the ANOC. Look at the cost pages and the drug list (formulary). 2. Check your doctors and hospitals. Networks can change year to year, even if your plan name doesn't. 3. Check your prescriptions. In 2026, Part D has a $2,100 out-of-pocket cap and a maximum deductible of $615. The coverage gap is gone — Part D now has three phases. If your drug costs are high, ask about the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan, which spreads them across the year. 4. Compare on medicare.gov. The Plan Finder shows every Fayette County plan side by side. 5. Make your choice during AEP (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7). If you're in a non-renewed plan, you also have through the end of February to switch. If you're already in a Medicare Advantage plan, MA Open Enrollment (Jan. 1 – March 31) lets you make one change.
