Key takeaways
- The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and any change you make takes effect January 1, 2027.
- If you do nothing, your current plan renews for 2027 as long as it is still offered — read the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your carrier mailed you.
- If your plan is not returning for 2027, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to pick a new plan without waiting for the regular deadline.
- Confirmed 2027 program figures: the Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 and the Part D maximum deductible rises to $700.
Bossier City sits in Bossier Parish, and Medicare Advantage availability is set at the parish (county) level. That means the carrier-by-carrier picture below applies to everyone with a Bossier Parish ZIP code, whether you live near Airline Drive, out toward Benton, or over by Barksdale.
What "the 2027 lineup" actually means
Every year, insurers file with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to sell Medicare Advantage plans in specific counties. CMS publishes that county-by-county roster in its Medicare Advantage Landscape Source File. So when we talk about Bossier City's 2027 lineup, we are really talking about the plans CMS has approved for sale in Bossier Parish for the plan year that starts January 1, 2027.
Three things can happen from one year to the next:
- A carrier keeps a plan on the market (it renews, sometimes with changes spelled out in the ANOC).
- A carrier adds a new plan for 2027.
- A carrier retires a plan, or leaves the parish entirely, so the plan is not offered in 2027.
The specifics — which plan IDs from which carriers, and what plan type each one is (HMO, PPO, HMO-POS, PDP-paired, or Special Needs Plan) — are in the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov, filtered to your ZIP code.
If your plan is not returning for 2027
If a carrier is dropping your Medicare Advantage plan, you should have already received (or will soon receive) a non-renewal notice. This is important, because it triggers a Special Enrollment Period. You do not have to squeeze the decision into the October 15–December 7 window.
The Special Enrollment Period for a non-renewed plan generally runs from December 8, 2026 through the end of February 2027, and it lets you either:
- Enroll in a different Medicare Advantage plan, or
- Return to Original Medicare (Parts A and B) and add a stand-alone Part D drug plan.
If you go back to Original Medicare after your Advantage plan is discontinued, you may also have guaranteed-issue rights to buy certain Medigap policies — meaning the Medigap insurer cannot turn you down or charge more for health reasons. Louisiana's SHIIP counselors (see below) can walk you through that.
What's new for 2027 across the program
Even if your plan itself renews unchanged, the underlying Part D drug benefit shifts every year. For 2027, CMS has confirmed:
- The Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 (up from $2,100 in 2026). Once your out-of-pocket spending on covered drugs hits that number, you pay $0 for covered drugs the rest of the year.
- The Part D maximum deductible rises to $700 (up from $615 in 2026). Plans can set a deductible at or below that ceiling.
- The Part D national base beneficiary premium for 2027 is $41.33. This is a formula number CMS uses — it is not the premium any specific plan charges.
The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan — the option to spread your drug costs over monthly installments instead of paying at the pharmacy — is still available in 2027. You opt in through your plan.
Two 2027 numbers are not yet public: the Part B standard premium and deductible, and the IRMAA income brackets that decide whether higher earners pay a surcharge. CMS typically announces these in the fall, usually in November. We will update our coverage when they are released.
How to read your ANOC before December 7
Your Annual Notice of Change is the single most useful piece of mail you get all year. It compares your 2026 plan side-by-side with the 2027 version. Look for:
- Changes to your monthly premium and deductible.
- Changes to copays for primary care, specialists, and hospital stays.
- Whether your prescriptions are still on the formulary, and at what tier.
- Whether your doctors, your preferred hospital (Willis-Knighton Bossier Health Center, CHRISTUS Bossier Emergency Hospital, Ochsner LSU Health) and your pharmacy are still in network.
- Any changes to extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, or over-the-counter allowances.
If the plan still fits you after that comparison, you do not need to do anything. It renews automatically on January 1, 2027.
