If you live in Henderson and you're weighing a Medicare Advantage plan for 2027, the first thing worth understanding isn't a premium or a benefit — it's the shape of the market. Which companies sell plans here, roughly how many each one offers, and what the letters after each plan name (HMO, PPO, D-SNP) actually mean for how you'd use the coverage.
Key takeaways
- Henderson is in Clark County, where 10 carriers offer a combined 57 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027, and every one of them includes drug coverage.
- The lineup still skews toward HMO designs, with PPO plans also available and no PFFS plans in the county for 2027. Exact counts by plan type are in the CMS Landscape file.
- 34 of the 74 plans are Special Needs Plans (SNPs), built for people with specific chronic conditions, Medicaid eligibility, or institutional needs.
- The Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, and Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment runs Jan. 1 – March 31 if you want to switch after your first choice.
Henderson sits inside Clark County, and Medicare Advantage availability is set at the county level. For plan year 2027, Clark County has 57 Medicare Advantage plans from 10 carriers, according to the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape file. Compared with 2026, 11 plans are not returning, 9 are new, and 15 have been renamed; 18 continuing plans change something in their terms, and those changes are spelled out in each plan's Annual Notice of Change. Let's break the field down by who offers what and by plan type.
Who sells Medicare Advantage in Clark County
Ten carriers offer Medicare Advantage plans that Henderson residents can enroll in for 2027. In alphabetical order, they are Aetna (CVS Health), Alignment Health Plan, Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC), Centene (WellCare), Champion Health Plan, Elevance Health (Anthem), Humana, SCAN Health Plan, Select Health, and UnitedHealthcare. Kaiser Permanente and Molina Healthcare of Nevada are not offering plans in the county for 2027.
Plan counts per carrier vary. Some, like Molina Healthcare of Nevada, offer a single plan in the county. Others, like UnitedHealthcare (14) and Humana (12), offer more than a dozen. The table below lists every plan by carrier. Having more plans from one company isn't automatically a plus or a minus — it usually just means the carrier is dividing its offerings by plan design, drug list or target population.
What HMO, HMO-POS and PPO really mean
Every Medicare Advantage plan in Clark County for 2027 falls into one of a few network structures. The differences matter more than the marketing names, so here's how to think about them.
HMO (Health Maintenance Organization). You pick a primary care doctor, generally need a referral to see a specialist, and use in-network providers for most non-emergency care. Out-of-network care usually isn't covered except in an emergency. Of the 74 plans in the county, 38 are HMOs.
HMO-POS (HMO with a Point-of-Service option). This is an HMO with a limited ability to see certain out-of-network providers, often at a higher cost share. It's still built around a network, but there's a bit more flexibility. HMO-POS plans are part of the Clark County lineup for 2027.
PPO (Preferred Provider Organization). PPOs let you see any provider who accepts Medicare and the plan's terms, in or out of network, though in-network care typically costs less. Referrals usually aren't required. There are 15 PPO plans in the county.
PFFS (Private Fee-for-Service). You may see this plan type discussed in general Medicare guides. For 2027, no PFFS plans are offered in Clark County, so it's not a choice here.
Special Needs Plans: a big share of the local market
Of the 74 Clark County plans, 34 are Special Needs Plans (SNPs). SNPs are Medicare Advantage plans limited to people who meet specific criteria, and their benefits and drug lists are tailored to that group. You'll see three flavors in the roster:
- D-SNP (Dual Eligible). For people who have both Medicare and Medicaid.
- C-SNP (Chronic Condition). For people with a qualifying chronic illness such as diabetes, chronic heart failure, or end-stage renal disease. Each C-SNP names the conditions it serves.
- I-SNP (Institutional). For people who live in a nursing facility or need a similar level of care at home.
If you don't meet a plan's SNP criteria, you can't enroll in it — even if you like how it looks. That's why the "34 SNPs" number can be a little misleading: only a subset applies to any one person.
Every plan includes drug coverage
All 57 Clark County Medicare Advantage plans for 2027 include Part D prescription drug coverage. If you're leaning toward Original Medicare plus a stand-alone Part D plan, you'll want to check medicare.gov's Plan Finder for what's actually available to you as an individual.
A few Part D rules apply across the board for 2027, no matter which plan you choose:
- The Part D out-of-pocket cap is $2,100 for 2026.
- The Part D maximum deductible is $615.
- The old coverage gap ("donut hole") is gone as of 2025 — Part D has three phases now.
- The optional Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread drug costs across the year in level monthly payments instead of paying at the pharmacy counter.
Star ratings and what they can (and can't) tell you
CMS publishes Star Ratings on Medicare Advantage contracts every year. Ratings can be a useful data point about a contract's customer service, member experience and clinical measures, but they aren't a substitute for checking whether your doctors, hospitals and medications are covered by a specific plan. Ratings can change from year to year.
Dates to keep in mind
- Oct. 15 – Dec. 7: Medicare Annual Enrollment Period. You can join, switch or drop a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan for coverage starting Jan. 1.
- Jan. 1 – March 31: Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment. If you're already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can switch to another one or go back to Original Medicare (and add a Part D plan) once during this window.
- IRMAA: Higher-income Part B and Part D premiums start above $109,000 in income for a single filer in 2026.
