GREENSBORO, N.C. — The 2027 Medicare Advantage lineup for Guilford County is set, and the roster looks different from the one Greensboro residents saw a year ago. Fifteen plans will not return after 2026, 14 new plans are joining the market, and a new carrier — AmeriHealth Caritas VIP Care — is entering the county. Shoppers can begin reviewing their choices during the Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 through December 7, 2026, with any change taking effect January 1, 2027.

What is changing in Greensboro's Medicare Advantage lineup for 2027?

In Guilford County, 15 Medicare Advantage plans are not returning for 2027, 14 new plans are being offered, and 16 continuing plans have been renamed. A total of 67 plans continue from 2026 into 2027.

CMS counts those shifts at the county level, so they apply to Greensboro residents and everyone else in Guilford County. Alongside the exits and arrivals, 25 continuing plans have at least one change to premium, deductible, type or name — the kind of detail each member will see spelled out in their plan's Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), which arrives by late September 2026.

The table below lists every 2026 plan offered in the county so you can match your current plan against what is coming next year.

Which carriers offer Medicare Advantage in Guilford County for 2027?

For 2027, Greensboro residents will see plans from the same group of carriers that served Guilford County in 2026, plus one new entrant: AmeriHealth Caritas VIP Care.

The returning carriers include Aetna (CVS Health), Alignment Health Plan, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC), Centene (WellCare), Devoted Health, HealthTeam Advantage, Humana, Liberty Medicare Advantage, Longevity Health Plan, Provider Partners Health Plans and UnitedHealthcare. Plan types in the county span HMO, HMO-POS and PPO, with a sizable number of Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs for people with both Medicare and Medicaid, C-SNPs for certain chronic conditions, and I-SNPs for people in nursing homes).

Which Medicare Advantage plans are leaving Greensboro after 2026?

Fifteen Medicare Advantage plans available in Guilford County in 2026 will not be offered in 2027. If you are enrolled in one of these, you will get a non-renewal notice from your plan and you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to switch.

The plans not returning for 2027 are:

What happens if my plan is leaving Greensboro?

If your Medicare Advantage plan is on the non-renewal list, your coverage ends December 31, 2026, and you have a Special Enrollment Period from December 8, 2026 through the end of February 2027 to choose another Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D plan.

Your plan is required to mail a non-renewal notice. You can also act during the regular Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2026). If you do nothing and your plan is leaving, you will be returned to Original Medicare on January 1, 2027, without drug coverage — so taking action matters if you want a Part D plan or a different Medicare Advantage plan in place on day one.

Which Medicare Advantage plans are new in Greensboro for 2027?

Fourteen Medicare Advantage plans are new to Guilford County for 2027, including the first plan from a carrier that has not sold here before, AmeriHealth Caritas VIP Care.

The new plans for 2027 are:

Many of the new plans are Special Needs Plans — Chronic Condition SNPs for people with specific illnesses, Dual Eligible SNPs for people with both Medicare and Medicaid, and Institutional SNPs for people in long-term care settings.

Which Greensboro plans have been renamed for 2027?

Sixteen plans continuing into 2027 in Guilford County are being offered under a new name — the coverage carries over, but the label on the mail may be different.

Renames worth watching for include Aetna Medicare Eagle (PPO), formerly Aetna Medicare Eagle Giveback (PPO); Aetna Medicare Full Dual (HMO D-SNP), formerly Aetna Medicare Dual (HMO D-SNP); several Alignment Health plans; three Wellcare Dual plans now branded "Wellcare Carolina Complete"; DEVOTED C-SNP ENHANCED 017 NC (HMO C-SNP), formerly DEVOTED C-SNP PREMIUM 017 NC; Humana Full Access (Regional PPO), formerly Humana Full Access R0110-005; and three UnitedHealthcare plans including UHC Dual Advantage NC-V1 (HMO-POS D-SNP), formerly UHC Dual Complete NC-V001. If your plan name on the ANOC does not match last year's exactly, a rename is often the reason.

What should Greensboro residents know about the 2027 dates and dollar figures?

The Annual Enrollment Period for 2027 coverage runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and any changes made in that window take effect January 1, 2027. The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period follows from January 1 through March 31, 2027, allowing one switch out of a Medicare Advantage plan.

A few confirmed Part D figures for 2027: the out-of-pocket drug cap rises to $2,400 (up from $2,100 in 2026), and the maximum Part D deductible rises to $700 (up from $615 in 2026). The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, are expected from CMS later in the fall. The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan — the option to spread drug costs across the year — continues in 2027.

If you do nothing and your plan is continuing, it will renew automatically on January 1, 2027, with the updates described in your Annual Notice of Change.

Frequently asked questions

I live in Greensboro — is my Medicare Advantage plan going away in 2027?
Only if it appears on the "leaving" list above. Fifteen plans in Guilford County are not returning for 2027. Your plan is required to mail a non-renewal notice if it is one of them; if you do not receive that notice, your plan is continuing and you will get an Annual Notice of Change describing any updates for 2027.
What do I do if my plan is on the "leaving" list?
You have options. You can pick a new plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2026), or use the Special Enrollment Period for non-renewed plans, which runs from December 8, 2026 through the end of February 2027. You can switch to another Medicare Advantage plan, or return to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D plan. Medicare.gov's Plan Finder and 1-800-MEDICARE can walk you through the specifics.
Do I need to do anything if my plan is continuing?
No. If your plan is on the "continuing" list, it renews automatically on January 1, 2027. The Annual Notice of Change mailed by late September 2026 describes any updates to premium, deductible, benefits or network for the coming year — it is worth reading before the December 7 deadline so you can switch if the changes do not work for you.
Where can I compare the 2027 plans side by side?
The official Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov lets you enter your ZIP code and prescriptions and see every Medicare Advantage and Part D plan available in Guilford County for 2027, with the full cost and benefit details. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for help from a Medicare representative. For personalized answers about any plan on the Guilford County roster, visit medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048).
