MEMPHIS — If you have a Medicare Advantage plan in Memphis, this fall's mail is worth opening. When the Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, Shelby County residents will see a reshuffled lineup for 2027: 11 plans are leaving, 12 are new, and 7 have been renamed. One carrier, Centene (WellCare), will not offer Medicare Advantage plans in the county next year.

Key takeaways

  • In Shelby County, 11 Medicare Advantage plans are leaving after 2026, 12 are new for 2027, and 7 have been renamed; 55 plans continue.
  • Centene (WellCare) will not offer Medicare Advantage plans in Shelby County in 2027, so every WellCare member here will need to choose a new plan or return to Original Medicare.
  • If your plan is not renewed, you get a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027, on top of the regular Oct. 15–Dec. 7 window.
  • Watch your mail for the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) — it spells out what is different about your plan for next year.

Here is what is changing, what stays the same, and what to do if your plan is one of the ones going away.

What's changing in Shelby County for 2027

Memphis is in Shelby County, where CMS lists 73 Medicare Advantage plans from 12 carriers for 2026 and 67 plans from 11 carriers for 2027. Comparing the two Landscape files, the picture for next year looks like this:

The table on this page lists every plan by carrier. Below, we walk through what is actually moving.

Plans leaving after 2026

If you are enrolled in one of these plans, your coverage will not automatically continue into 2027. You will need to pick a new plan during AEP or return to Original Medicare.

Because Centene (WellCare) is exiting Shelby County entirely, every WellCare member here is affected.

New plans for 2027

Twelve plans are joining the Shelby County lineup for the coming year:

Several of these are Special Needs Plans (SNPs) for people with certain chronic conditions or dual Medicare-Medicaid eligibility. You have to meet the eligibility rules to enroll.

Renamed plans (same insurer, new label)

Seven plans in Shelby County were renamed for 2027. If you're in one of these, your coverage isn't disappearing — but the name on your card and paperwork will be different:

A rename can also come with other changes — read the ANOC to see what, if anything, is different.

What to do if your plan is leaving

If your plan is on the "leaving" list above, your insurer is required to send a non-renewal notice. Here is the practical path:

1. Read the letter and the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC). Both arrive by late September. 2. Use the Annual Enrollment Period, Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, to choose a new Medicare Advantage plan for coverage starting Jan. 1, 2027. 3. If you miss AEP, you still have a Special Enrollment Period through the end of February 2027 because your plan is not renewing. You can use it to join a different Medicare Advantage plan or go back to Original Medicare (and add a stand-alone Part D plan). 4. If you return to Original Medicare and want a Medigap policy, ask about your rights — leaving a non-renewed MA plan can open a guaranteed-issue window in some cases.

The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (Jan. 1–March 31) is a separate window that lets people already in an MA plan switch once. It is not the same as the non-renewal SEP.

A quick word on 2026 Part D

Even if your plan is continuing, drug coverage rules keep evolving. For 2026, the Part D out-of-pocket cap is $2,100, the maximum Part D deductible is $615, and the coverage gap (the old "donut hole") remains eliminated — Part D now has three phases. The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread drug costs across the year in level monthly amounts if that helps your budget. IRMAA surcharges for higher-income enrollees start above $109,000 for a single filer in 2026.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I do nothing and my Medicare Advantage plan is leaving?
If your plan is not renewed for 2027 and you don't pick a new one by Dec. 31, 2026, you'll generally be returned to Original Medicare on Jan. 1. You would still have a Special Enrollment Period through the end of February 2027 to join a different Medicare Advantage plan or add a Part D drug plan.
How do I know if my plan is one of the ones changing?
Watch for the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) from your insurer — it should arrive by late September. It tells you if the plan is continuing, being renamed, or ending, and lists what's different for 2027. You can also compare plans at medicare.gov/plan-compare. **Is
