Memphis shoppers weighing Medicare Advantage for 2027 have a long menu to sort through. According to the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source File, 67 Medicare Advantage plans are being offered in Shelby County — where Memphis sits — from 11 carriers. Every one of those plans includes prescription drug coverage. The table below on this page lists each plan by carrier, its plan type, and whether it includes drug coverage, so you can see the full 2027 lineup in one place.
Key takeaways
- Shelby County, which includes Memphis, has 67 Medicare Advantage plans from 11 carriers for 2027, and all of them include drug coverage.
- The lineup breaks down as 29 HMO plans, 19 HMO-POS plans, and 25 PPO plans, with 29 of the 73 being Special Needs Plans (SNPs).
- Availability is set at the county level by CMS, so a Memphis resident is choosing from the Shelby County list.
- The Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, and Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment runs Jan. 1 through March 31.
What's in the Memphis lineup for 2027
Memphis is in Shelby County, where CMS lists 67 Medicare Advantage plans for the 2027 plan year. Eleven carriers are in the market: Abilis Health, Aetna (CVS Health), American Health Advantage of Tennessee, Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC), BlueCare Plus Tennessee, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Devoted Health, Elevance Health (Anthem), Humana, UnitedHealthcare, and Zing Health. Centene (WellCare) is not offering plans in the county next year.
Every plan on the Shelby County list bundles Part D drug coverage into the Medicare Advantage plan itself. That is why you won't see any stand-alone Part D drug plans listed for the county in the CMS Landscape file this year — the drug benefit is built in.
Plan types you'll see
Medicare Advantage plans in Memphis come in three main shapes for 2027:
- HMO (29 plans): Care is generally coordinated through an in-network primary care doctor and network specialists.
- HMO-POS (19 plans): An HMO with a "point of service" option that allows some out-of-network care under certain rules.
- PPO (25 plans): More flexibility to see out-of-network providers, usually at a higher cost share.
Twenty-nine of the 73 plans are Special Needs Plans (SNPs). These are limited to people who meet specific eligibility rules — for example, people who also have Medicaid (D-SNP), people with certain chronic conditions like diabetes or heart disease (C-SNP), or people who live in an institution or need that level of care (I-SNP). If you don't meet the SNP's eligibility category, you can't enroll in it.
How the carriers stack up in count
The table below shows every plan by carrier. A few quick counts from the CMS file:
- Humana: 13 plans
- UnitedHealthcare: 10 plans
- Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC): 7 plans
- BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee: 7 plans
- Zing Health: 7 plans
- Centene (WellCare): 6 plans
- Devoted Health: 6 plans
- Elevance Health (Anthem): 6 plans
- Aetna (CVS Health): 5 plans
- BlueCare Plus Tennessee: 3 plans
- Abilis Health: 2 plans
- American Health Advantage of Tennessee: 1 plan
These are counts of plan offerings only. They don't say anything about a plan's costs, doctor network, drug list, or quality — those come from the plan's own documents and the Medicare Plan Finder.
2027 Part D rules that apply to these plans
Because every Memphis MA plan includes drug coverage, the 2027 Part D rules matter to your out-of-pocket picture:
- The Part D out-of-pocket cap is $2,100 in 2026 and $2,400 in 2027. Once your covered drug spending hits that ceiling, you pay nothing for covered Part D drugs the rest of the year.
- The maximum Part D deductible is $615, though many plans set a lower one.
- The coverage gap ("donut hole") is gone as of 2025. Part D now has three phases: deductible, initial coverage, and catastrophic.
- The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan is an option that lets you spread your drug costs into monthly payments across the plan year, rather than paying at the pharmacy counter.
- IRMAA (the income-related surcharge) starts above $109,000 in income for a single filer in 2026.
Dates to keep on the calendar
- Oct. 15 – Dec. 7: Medicare Annual Enrollment Period. You can join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan for 2027.
- Jan. 1 – March 31: Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment. If you're already in an MA plan on Jan. 1, you can switch to a different MA plan or move back to Original Medicare (and add a Part D plan) once during this window.
How to compare the Memphis plans
Because the list is long, it helps to narrow it down before you compare details:
1. Confirm your eligibility. If you're not dual-eligible for Medicaid, or don't have the SNP's chronic condition, you can skip the SNPs. 2. Decide on plan type. HMO, HMO-POS, or PPO — this shapes how you access care. 3. Check your doctors and hospitals. Networks vary by plan, even within the same carrier. 4. Check your drugs. Every plan on this list includes Part D, but formularies (covered drug lists) differ. 5. Look at the total cost picture, not just the premium — deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket maximums matter.
The official Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov/plan-compare lets you enter your ZIP code and prescriptions and see plan-by-plan detail side by side.
