Not returning for 2027El Paso, TX

Key takeaways

  • Eighteen Medicare Advantage plans offered in El Paso County in 2026 are not returning in 2027; the full list of plans and carriers is in the table below.
  • Your plan must mail you a non-renewal notice (often called a plan termination letter) before the end of 2026 — if you did not get one, your plan is likely continuing with the changes in its Annual Notice of Change.
  • If you do nothing, you will be moved to Original Medicare on Jan. 1, 2027, without a Part D drug plan attached.
  • Losing your plan opens a Special Enrollment Period that runs through Feb. 28, 2027, plus a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap policies.

EL PASO — This fall, 18 Medicare Advantage plans sold in El Paso County for 2026 are not on the CMS list for 2027. If you are enrolled in one of them, your insurer is required to send you a non-renewal letter — and you have more time and more options than the Dec. 7 deadline suggests.

What is actually happening in El Paso County

El Paso is in El Paso County, where CMS's 2027 Medicare Advantage Landscape file shows 89 plans from 12 carriers — down from 91 plans in 2026. Behind that small net change: 18 plans are not returning, 16 are brand new, and 19 are being renamed (the Annual Notice of Change your plan mails each fall spells out any rename or benefit shift).

Non-renewal is routine. Carriers reshape their lineups every year — consolidating two plans into one, pulling a product type out of a county, or restructuring a Special Needs Plan. It does not mean your coverage ends mid-year. Your current plan still works through Dec. 31, 2026.

The 18 El Paso County plans not returning for 2027

The table below lists every non-returning plan by carrier. Four carriers are trimming their 2026 lineups in El Paso County:

If your plan is on this list, keep reading. If it is not, your plan is continuing for 2027 — read the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) it mails you so you can compare the 2027 version with what you have now.

How to tell: look for the non-renewal letter

Medicare rules require your Advantage plan to notify you in writing when the plan will not be offered next year. The letter typically arrives by early October and clearly states that your current plan ends on Dec. 31, 2026, and that you will need to make a choice for 2027.

What to check on your copy:

If you cannot find the letter, call the member services number on the back of your card or Medicare directly at 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048). They can confirm whether your plan is ending.

What happens if you do nothing

A non-renewed Medicare Advantage plan does not auto-roll into a replacement. On Jan. 1, 2027, you will be returned to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) without a Part D drug plan.

That means:

Doing nothing is a valid choice for some people, but it is a choice — not a safety net. Make it on purpose.

Your choices and your Special Enrollment Period

When CMS allows a plan to leave an area, affected members get an extended enrollment window beyond the regular Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, 2026). Your options:

1. Pick a different Medicare Advantage plan for 2027 during AEP (effective Jan. 1, 2027). El Paso County will have 89 plans from 12 carriers for 2027; use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov to compare by doctor, drug and pharmacy. 2. Use the plan-termination Special Enrollment Period, which runs from Dec. 8, 2026 through Feb. 28, 2027. You can switch to another Advantage plan or move to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D plan during this window. 3. Switch to Original Medicare plus a Medigap (Medicare Supplement) policy and a Part D plan. When your Advantage plan is non-renewed, federal law gives you a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap policies without medical underwriting, within a defined window around the loss of coverage. Texas rules on which Medigap plans qualify and the exact timing are handled by the Texas Department of Insurance (tdi.texas.gov); check there or call the insurer directly before you apply.

A note on 2027 drug costs that apply to any Part D plan you pick: the Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026), and the maximum Part D deductible a plan can charge is $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026). The 2027 Part B premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, will be announced by CMS later this fall.

Frequently asked questions

How will I know for sure my plan is ending?
Your insurer is required to mail you a non-renewal notice before the end of 2026, typically by early October. If you are unsure, compare your member ID card to the list in this article, call the member services number on the card, or call 1-800-MEDICARE.
If my plan is ending, do I have to pick a new Medicare Advantage plan?
No. You can enroll in a different Advantage plan, or you can move to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D drug plan. You may also have a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap policies — check with the Texas Department of Insurance or the insurer for the rules that apply in your situation.
What if I miss the Dec. 7 deadline?
If your plan is on the non-returning list, you have a Special Enrollment Period that runs through Feb. 28, 2027 to pick an Advantage plan or move to Original Medicare with a Part D plan. If your plan is continuing and you simply missed AEP, you may still be able to make one change during Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment (Jan. 1 – Mar. 31, 2027) if you are already in an Advantage plan.
