Key takeaways

  • In Dallas County, which includes Grand Prairie, 29 Medicare Advantage plans are leaving after 2026 and 20 new plans are arriving for 2027.
  • If your plan is not being renewed, you get a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February to pick a new plan.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7; the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs January 1 through March 31.
  • Read your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) — it is the only place with the exact 2027 details for your plan.

That means roughly one in three plans offered in the county in 2026 will look different, be renamed, or disappear in 2027. Here is what to check, and when.

What is changing in Dallas County for 2027

Plan availability in Medicare Advantage is set at the county level, so Grand Prairie is in Dallas County, where the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape files show these year-over-year shifts:

At the carrier level, American Health Advantage of Texas will not offer plans in the county next year. Texas Independence Health Plan is new to the county for 2027.

The table on this page lists every plan; if you want to see whether your specific plan is on the "leaving," "new" or "renamed" list, that is the place to check.

Plans that are leaving after 2026

If you are enrolled in one of these plans, you will need to make a choice for 2027. In alphabetical order by carrier:

If your plan is on this list, your carrier is required to send you a non-renewal notice. Keep it — that notice unlocks your Special Enrollment Period.

Plans that are new for 2027

Twenty new plans are entering the county. They come from carriers already serving Dallas County — Aetna (CVS Health), Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC), Elevance Health (Anthem), Humana, and UnitedHealthcare — plus Texas Independence Health Plan, which is new to the county. New plan names include Aetna Medicare Signature (HMO), HealthSpring TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP), Wellpoint Medicare Advantage Select (HMO-POS), Humana Value Choice (PPO), Texas Independence Community Plan (HMO I-SNP), and several new UHC Dual Complete plans, among others listed in the table on this page.

New does not mean better or worse — it means new. Read the plan's Summary of Benefits and check that your doctors, hospitals and prescriptions are covered before you enroll.

Plans that are renamed

Nine plans are keeping their coverage but changing names. A rename can be confusing when your ID card arrives, but the plan is the same underlying contract. Renamed plans include, for example, Aetna Medicare Chronic Care Total (HMO C-SNP) (was Aetna Medicare Prime Chronic Total), Wellcare Superior HealthPlan Dual Access (HMO D-SNP) (was Wellcare Dual Access), and AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC TX-61 (Regional PPO) (was UHC Medicare Advantage TX-0030). The full before-and-after list is in the table on this page.

What to do — step by step

1. Read your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC). Carriers must mail it by the end of September. This is the single document that spells out how your plan will change in 2027. For the 22 plans marked as "changing," the ANOC is the only place with the specifics — we cannot describe those changes here.

2. Check the letter type. A non-renewal notice (your plan is leaving) is different from an ANOC (your plan is continuing with changes). Both matter, but the deadlines are different.

3. If your plan is leaving, use your Special Enrollment Period. People whose Medicare Advantage plan is not renewed get an SEP that runs through the end of February to enroll in another Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare (and add a Part D plan). If you do nothing, in most cases you will be returned to Original Medicare on January 1 — without drug coverage unless you add it.

4. Use the Annual Enrollment Period. October 15 through December 7 is when anyone with Medicare can switch plans for the following year. Changes take effect January 1.

5. Know about MA Open Enrollment. From January 1 through March 31, if you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or go back to Original Medicare (with Part D) — one change during that window.

6. Check your drugs and doctors. Even a "continuing" plan can change its formulary or network. Run your prescriptions through the plan's tool at Medicare.gov's Plan Finder.
