IRVING, Texas — Fall 2026. If you open your mailbox this month and find a letter from your Medicare Advantage plan saying it will not be offered next year, you are not alone. In Dallas County, which includes Irving, 29 Medicare Advantage plans listed for 2026 are not in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) file for 2027. Carriers must mail a non-renewal notice to affected members by early October, so the letters are landing now.

Here is how to tell if your plan is on the list, what happens if you do nothing, and the extra time Medicare gives you to pick something else.

How do I know if my Medicare Advantage plan is leaving Irving for 2027?

Your plan has to tell you in writing. CMS requires every Medicare Advantage carrier that is ending a plan to mail a non-renewal letter to each member, usually arriving in early October. The letter will say the plan will not be offered in 2027 and will explain your choices.

If you did not get a letter and your plan is not on the list below, your plan is renewing. You will still get an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) describing what is different about your plan for 2027 — premiums, copays, drug list, network — and it is worth reading cover to cover.

Which Medicare Advantage plans are not returning in Dallas County for 2027?

These 29 plans are offered in Dallas County in 2026 but are not in CMS's 2027 Landscape file for the county. They are listed alphabetically by carrier:

Note that several of these are Special Needs Plans (SNPs) — the D-SNP, C-SNP and I-SNP labels — meaning the people enrolled are often dual-eligible for Medicare and Medicaid, have a specific chronic condition, or live in an institutional setting. If one of those is yours, pay particular attention to the SEP timing below.

What happens if I do nothing after my plan ends?

If your Medicare Advantage plan is ending and you take no action, you will automatically go back to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) on January 1, 2027.

That is not a bad outcome in itself — Original Medicare is the federal program and works nationwide — but there are two gaps to be aware of:

What is the Special Enrollment Period if my plan is not renewing?

When your Medicare Advantage plan leaves the market, CMS gives you a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that runs from December 8, 2026 through February 28, 2027. During that window you can:

You also get a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap policies — meaning the insurer must sell you one of the eligible plans at the standard rate without using your health history to deny you or charge more. Texas rules about which Medigap plans qualify, and how long the guaranteed-issue window runs in Texas, are set by the Texas Department of Insurance; call them or 1-800-MEDICARE to confirm what applies to your situation.

Of course, you can also make your change during the regular Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 through December 7, 2026, which takes effect January 1, 2027. Many people in a non-renewing plan use AEP to switch so there is no coverage gap at all.

What else is changing in Dallas County for 2027?

Dallas County will still have a wide field. CMS lists 84 Medicare Advantage plans from 12 carriers for 2027, including 20 brand-new plans and 9 that are renamed versions of 2026 plans. If your plan name looks different on your ANOC, that is why — the plan may be continuing under a new label, with changes.

Two Part D figures are already confirmed for 2027: the annual out-of-pocket cap on covered drugs rises to $2,400 (up from $2,100 in 2026), and the maximum Part D deductible rises to $700 (up from $615 in 2026). The 2027 Part B premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not been announced yet; CMS typically releases those in November.

How should I compare my options in Irving?

Start with what you use: your doctors, your hospital system, your prescriptions, and whether you travel. Then:

1. Read your non-renewal letter and your ANOC carefully. 2. Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov to see 2027 plans available in your ZIP code. You can enter your drugs and preferred pharmacies to compare total costs. 3. Call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, if you want to talk it through. 4. If you are considering Medigap, confirm the Texas guaranteed-issue rules with the Texas Department of Insurance before you apply.

Do not rely on friends or neighbors to tell you which plan is "the one." Networks, drug lists and costs are different for every person — the right plan for you is the one that covers your doctors and your medicines at a price you can live with.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

My letter says my plan is being "non-renewed." Does that mean I lose Medicare?
No. You keep Medicare. Only your private Medicare Advantage plan is ending. If you do nothing, you are moved to Original Medicare (Parts A and B) on January 1, 2027. You can also use your Special Enrollment Period to pick a different Medicare Advantage plan or add a stand-alone Part D plan.
How long do I have to pick a new plan?
You have two overlapping windows. The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and any change you make takes effect January 1, 2027. If your plan is ending, you also get a Special Enrollment Period through February 28, 2027, to join a new Medicare Advantage plan or a Part D plan.
Can I buy a Medigap policy if my plan is not returning?
Federal rules give you a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap plans when your Medicare Advantage plan leaves. That means the insurer cannot turn you down or charge more because of your health. Which specific plans qualify, and the exact window in Texas, is governed by state rules — check with the Texas Department of Insurance or call 1-800-MEDICARE.
What if my plan is not on the list above?
Then your plan is renewing in Dallas County for 2027. Read the Annual Notice of Change your plan sends — premiums, copays, drug tiers and provider networks can shift from year to year, and the ANOC is where those changes are spelled out. For personalized help, visit medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
