Frisco Medigap Shoppers: Four Things Shifting in 2026

FRISCO, Texas — If you have a Medigap policy in Collin County, or you are shopping for one, a handful of things shift every year as the calendar turns. For 2026, the moving parts to watch are the same ones that matter every renewal season: which standardized plan letters you are allowed to buy, the annual reset of the Part B deductible that Plans G and N are built around, the rate filings insurers submit to the Texas Department of Insurance, and any carriers coming into or leaving the Texas market.

Key takeaways

  • People newly eligible for Medicare can buy Plans A, B, D, G, G-HD, K, L, M or N; Plans C and F are limited to people eligible before January 1, 2020.
  • Plans G and N pay after you meet the Part B deductible each year, so that deductible resets every January 1.
  • Medigap rate changes in Texas are filed with the Texas Department of Insurance; ask your carrier for your renewal notice and check the TDI rate guide before you decide.
  • The table below lists every insurer selling Medigap in Texas and the plan letters each one offers.

None of this changes what a Medigap policy is. It is still a private supplement that helps pay some of the out-of-pocket costs Original Medicare leaves behind. But the details around the edges are worth a fresh look each year.

Which plan letters you can buy in 2026

Medigap plans are standardized by letter, which means a Plan G from one company covers the same core benefits as a Plan G from another. What changes between insurers is price, customer service, and household or other discounts.

If you became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020, you can choose from Plans A, B, D, G, G-HD, K, L, M, and N. Plans C and F, which cover the Part B deductible, are only available to people who were eligible for Medicare before that date. That rule has been in place for several years, and it carries into 2026 unchanged.

Plan G and Plan N remain the two most widely sold letters for newly eligible enrollees, because Plan F is closed to them. High-deductible Plan G (G-HD) is also offered by many Texas carriers as a lower-premium option that pays after you meet a higher yearly deductible.

The Part B deductible reset — why it matters for Plans G and N

Plans G and N are structured around the Part B deductible. That is the amount you pay out of pocket for Part B services each calendar year before your Medigap plan starts paying its share. On January 1, that deductible resets to zero and you start over.

The 2026 Part B deductible amount is set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and posted on medicare.gov. Once you know that figure, you know the maximum you will pay for Part B–covered services before Plan G (or Plan N, which also has some copays for office and ER visits) kicks in.

If you are choosing between plan letters, the yearly deductible reset is one of the main things to think about. A plan with a lower premium may still leave more of that deductible on your shoulders.

Rate-adjustment season in Texas

Medigap premiums are not fixed for life. Insurers file rate changes with the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), and those adjustments typically take effect on your policy anniversary or at the start of a new plan year. TDI publishes rate information and a consumer guide for Medicare supplement shoppers.

A few practical points for Frisco readers:

To compare current filings, start with the TDI Medicare supplement rate guide and the Medigap policy search on medicare.gov.

Which insurers sell Medigap in Texas

The Texas market for Medigap is deep. Roughly two dozen insurers file Medigap plans with the state, from national names to Texas-based carriers. The table on this page lists every insurer and the specific plan letters each one offers, straight from the Medicare.gov Medigap policy search.

A few examples of the range you will see: AARP - UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company, BlueCross BlueShield of Texas, Humana (Emphesys Insurance Company), Mutual of Omaha (Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company), and Texas Farm Bureau Health Plans all sell Medigap in Texas, but they do not all offer the same plan letters. Some carry high-deductible Plan G, some do not. Some still sell Plan C or Plan F to people who qualify for those closed plans.

If a carrier enters or exits the Texas market, that shows up first in the state filings and on the Medicare.gov policy search. Both sources refresh regularly, so check them close to when you plan to enroll or switch.

What to do this season if you live in Frisco

Frisco is in Collin County, and the Medigap options here are the same ones available statewide — Medigap is not sold by county the way Medicare Advantage is. That said, a few local steps are worth taking:

1. Pull out your current policy and check the plan letter and your renewal date. 2. Look at whether you are still inside your six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period. If you are, you have guaranteed-issue rights. 3. Use the Medigap policy search on medicare.gov to see every insurer selling your plan letter in your ZIP code. 4. Call the Texas Health Information, Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP), the state SHIP, for free one-on-one help. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE.

Frequently asked questions

Can I switch Medigap plans in Texas at any time?
You can apply to switch any time, but outside your one-time six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, Texas insurers can use medical underwriting. That means they can ask health questions and decide whether to accept you. There are limited guaranteed-issue situations under federal rules; check with medicare.gov or your local SHIP to see if any apply to you.
Do Plans G and N cover the Part B deductible?
No. Plans G and N pay after you meet the annual Part B deductible. Only Plans C and F cover that deductible, and those are limited to people who were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.
Where can I see rate filings for Texas Medigap insurers?
The Texas Department of Insurance publishes a Medicare supplement rate guide and posts filings from insurers. Medicare.gov's Medigap policy search also lists every insurer selling in your ZIP code along with contact information.
Is Medigap the same as Medicare Advantage?
No. Medigap works alongside Original Medicare and helps pay costs Original Medicare does not cover. Medicare Advantage (Part C) replaces Original Medicare with a private plan. You cannot have both at the same time. ## Where to get official help For the most current federal rules and the 2026 Part B deductible amount, go to medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For Texas-specific rate filings and consumer guides, visit the Texas Department of Insurance at tdi.texas.gov. For free, unbiased one-on-one counseling, contact your local SHIP through the Texas Health Information, Counseling and Advocacy Program.
