Key takeaways

  • 14 Medicare Advantage plans in Pima County are not returning for 2027; carriers must send members a non-renewal letter this fall.
  • If you take no action, you will be moved to Original Medicare (Parts A and B) on January 1, 2027, with no drug coverage attached.
  • Members of a non-renewing plan get a Special Enrollment Period that runs through February 28, 2027, to pick a new Medicare Advantage or Part D plan.
  • Leaving a Medicare Advantage plan because it is ending can trigger a Medigap guaranteed-issue right; check with the Arizona Department of Insurance for state rules.

TUCSON, Ariz. — Fall 2026. Fourteen Medicare Advantage plans sold in Pima County this year will not be offered in 2027, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare Advantage Landscape Source Files. If you are enrolled in one of them, your mailbox will tell you first: your insurer must send a non-renewal letter before the Annual Enrollment Period, which runs October 15 through December 7, 2026.

Here is what the list looks like, how to recognize the letter, and what happens if you do nothing.

The 14 plans not returning in Pima County

Tucson is in Pima County, and plan availability is set at the county level. CMS compared the 2026 and 2027 Landscape files for Pima County and these 14 Medicare Advantage plans appear in 2026 but not in 2027, listed alphabetically by carrier:

For 2027, Pima County will have 88 Medicare Advantage plans from 15 carriers, compared with 82 plans from 14 carriers this year. The full lineup, including new and renamed plans, is listed in the table below.

How to tell if your plan is one of them

Insurers are required to mail a non-renewal notice (sometimes called a plan termination letter) by early October. It will say, in plain terms, that the plan will not be offered in 2027 and that your coverage ends December 31, 2026.

A few quick ways to check:

What happens if you do nothing

If your plan is on the non-renewing list and you make no choice by December 31, 2026, you will be returned to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) on January 1, 2027. You will not automatically have a Medicare Advantage plan, and you will not automatically have Part D drug coverage. That gap matters: without a Part D plan, you could face a late-enrollment penalty later and have no coverage for your prescriptions in the meantime.

Original Medicare also does not cap your out-of-pocket costs the way a Medicare Advantage plan does, and it does not include extras like dental or vision.

Your choices and your Special Enrollment Period

If your plan is ending, Medicare gives you more time than the general public:

1. During the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, 2026): pick a new Medicare Advantage plan or a stand-alone Part D plan for coverage starting January 1, 2027. 2. Special Enrollment Period for a non-renewed plan: you have from December 8, 2026 through February 28, 2027 to join a new Medicare Advantage plan or Part D plan. Coverage starts the first of the month after you enroll. 3. Switch to Original Medicare + Medigap: because your plan is ending, you may qualify for a Medigap guaranteed-issue right, meaning an insurer must sell you certain Medigap policies without medical underwriting. Arizona has its own rules on which plans and what windows apply — the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions can walk you through them.

You do not have to decide today. But the sooner you compare plans, the more time you have to confirm that your doctors, pharmacies, and medications are covered under whatever you pick.

Frequently asked questions

How will I know for sure that my Medicare Advantage plan is ending?
Your insurer is required to mail you a non-renewal letter in the fall of 2026 telling you the plan will not be offered in 2027 and that your coverage ends December 31, 2026. You can also match your plan name on your ID card against the list of 14 plans above, or call 1-800-MEDICARE to confirm.
What if I miss the December 7 deadline?
If your current plan is ending, you are not stuck. You have a Special Enrollment Period that runs through February 28, 2027 to pick a new Medicare Advantage plan or a stand-alone Part D plan. If you take no action at all, you will be on Original Medicare starting January 1, 2027, without drug coverage.
Can I go back to Original Medicare with a Medigap policy?
Yes. Because your Medicare Advantage plan is ending through no fault of your own, you generally qualify for a Medigap guaranteed-issue right, which means certain Medigap policies are available to you without medical underwriting. The specifics — which plan letters, which insurers, and how long the window lasts — depend on Arizona rules. The Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions can confirm what applies to your situation.
Do I need to do anything if my plan is NOT on the list?
Not necessarily. If your plan is renewing for 2027, you should still read the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your insurer sent, because premiums, drug lists, provider networks and extra benefits can change year to year. If everything still works for you, you can stay put — no action needed.
