Key takeaways
- UnitedHealthcare is offering 11 Medicare Advantage plans in Pima County for 2027: 7 HMO-POS and 4 PPO, all with drug coverage included.
- One plan is new for 2027, one is not returning, and one has been renamed; the ANOC in your mailbox spells out what applies to your plan.
- Four of the 11 plans are Special Needs Plans (2 D-SNP, 1 C-SNP, 1 I-SNP), which have eligibility rules tied to Medicaid, a chronic condition, or an institutional setting.
- The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 – December 7, 2026; any change you make takes effect January 1, 2027, and if you do nothing your current plan renews as described in its ANOC.
MyMedicarePlans.org is an independent consumer site, not UnitedHealthcare and not Medicare. We publish city-by-city snapshots during the Annual Enrollment Period so readers can see the shape of a carrier's lineup — the plan types, whether drug coverage is included, and which plans are new, renamed or not coming back — then take the specifics to medicare.gov.
What UnitedHealthcare is offering in Pima County for 2027
Tucson is in Pima County, where Medicare Advantage availability is set. For 2027, UnitedHealthcare is offering 11 Medicare Advantage plans in the county. By plan type, that breaks down to 7 HMO-POS and 4 PPO plans. All 11 include Part D prescription drug coverage, so no stand-alone drug plan is needed alongside them.
The table below lists every UnitedHealthcare plan available in Pima County for 2027, in alphabetical order, with its plan type and drug-coverage status. For specifics on premiums, copays, provider networks, drug formularies, extra benefits and star ratings — none of which we publish here — use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE.
Special Needs Plans in the lineup
Four of UnitedHealthcare's 11 Pima County plans for 2027 are Special Needs Plans (SNPs), which are built for people in specific situations:
- D-SNPs (Dual Eligible): two plans, for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid — UHC Dual Complete AZ-S001 and UHC Dual Complete AZ-YL.
- C-SNP (Chronic Condition): one plan, UHC Complete Care AZ-3P, for people with a qualifying chronic condition.
- I-SNP (Institutional): one plan, UHC Nursing Home Plan AZ-F001, for people who live in a nursing home or need that level of care.
SNPs have eligibility rules, so not every Tucson resident can enroll in them. The plan's materials, or a call to Medicare, can confirm whether you qualify.
What's new, what's renamed, what's not returning
Year-over-year, there are three things worth flagging in UnitedHealthcare's Tucson lineup for 2027:
- New for 2027: AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx AZ-MA3 (HMO-POS), a plan not offered in the county this year.
- Renamed: UHC Dual Complete AZ-YL (HMO-POS D-SNP) is the new name for what was UHC Dual Complete AZ-Y001 in 2026. If you are in that plan, it is continuing under a new label — your ANOC will walk through any benefit changes.
- Not returning in 2027: one UnitedHealthcare plan offered in 2026 is not on the 2027 list. If you are enrolled in a plan that is leaving the county, you will get a non-renewal letter from the carrier and a Special Enrollment Period to choose something else.
How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions
Before December 7, 2026, there are three things worth doing, in this order:
1. Open the ANOC. It compares your 2026 plan to its 2027 version — premium, deductible, copays, drug tiers and extras. If anything that matters to you changed, that is your signal to compare. 2. Run your drug list on Medicare Plan Finder. At medicare.gov, enter each prescription with its dose and your preferred pharmacy. Plan Finder shows each plan's total estimated yearly cost for your specific drugs, which is the only honest way to compare drug coverage. 3. Check your providers. Call your primary care doctor and any specialists you see, and ask whether they will be in-network for the specific 2027 plan you are considering. HMO-POS and PPO plans handle out-of-network care differently, so confirm this plan by plan rather than carrier-wide.
Pima County residents also have options beyond UnitedHealthcare. For 2027, 14 other carriers are offering Medicare Advantage plans in the county, for a total of 88 plans across all carriers. That is useful context if the UnitedHealthcare lineup doesn't fit your doctors or drugs — there is a wider market to compare against.
2027 Part D figures to know
A few program-wide numbers that CMS has confirmed for 2027 apply to any Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage, including these:
- Part D out-of-pocket cap: $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026). Once your out-of-pocket spending on covered drugs hits that cap, you pay $0 for covered drugs the rest of the year.
- Part D maximum deductible: $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026). Plans can set a lower deductible, but not higher.
- Medicare Prescription Payment Plan: still available in 2027 as an option to spread your drug costs across the year in monthly installments rather than paying at the pharmacy counter.
The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, had not been announced as of this writing; CMS typically publishes them later in the fall.
