Irvine, Calif. — Fall 2026. If you have Medicare in Irvine, this is the window to look at your coverage for 2027. The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and any choice you make now takes effect January 1, 2027. Orange County, where Irvine sits, will have 111 Medicare Advantage plans from 16 carriers next year, so a simple side-by-side method helps more than scrolling through ads.

How many Medicare Advantage plans are offered in Orange County for 2027?

Irvine is in Orange County, where 111 Medicare Advantage plans from 16 carriers are offered for 2027. All 111 include prescription drug coverage. By plan type, there are 84 HMOs, 23 HMO-POS plans, and 4 PPOs. Special Needs Plans — for people with certain chronic conditions, who live in an institution, or who have both Medicare and Medi-Cal — total 49 (3 D-SNP, 41 C-SNP, 5 I-SNP).

The carriers, in alphabetical order, are Aetna (CVS Health), Align Senior Care, Alignment Health Plan, Astiva Health, Blue Shield of California, CalOptima Health OneCare, Centene (WellCare), Champion Heath Plan, Clever Care Health Plan, Elevance Health (Anthem), Humana, Imperial Health Plan of California, Inc., Kaiser Permanente, SCAN Health Plan, UnitedHealthcare, and VillageHealth. The full roster is in the table below.

What is new in Orange County for 2027?

For 2027, Orange County has 28 new Medicare Advantage plans and 21 plans that will not return. Carriers also renamed about 19 plans, so your "same" plan may show up with a slightly different name — the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your plan mailed in September will spell out what shifted.

A few carrier-level moves to notice as you compare: Alignment Health Plan grew to 19 plans, SCAN Health Plan to 14, and Champion Heath Plan to 10. VillageHealth is listed in Orange County for 2027 with 2 HMO-POS plans. Providence Medicare Advantage Plans is not listed in the 2027 Orange County file. These counts are from the CMS Landscape Source File; they do not say which plan is right for you.

What should I read first — the Annual Notice of Change?

Yes. If you already have a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, start with the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your plan sent in September 2026. It compares your 2026 coverage to your 2027 coverage in the same document: premium, deductible, copays, the drug list (formulary), the pharmacy network, and the provider network.

Flag any line where the 2027 column is different from 2026 — that is your short list of things to double-check before December 7.

How do I compare Medicare Advantage plans in Irvine step by step?

Use the same five checks for every plan you consider. The order matters, because a plan that fails step 1 or step 2 is not worth comparing on premium.

1. Doctors and hospitals. Open the plan's online provider directory and search your primary care doctor, each specialist you see, and the Irvine-area hospitals you want to use (for many Irvine residents that includes Hoag, UCI Health, Kaiser Permanente Irvine, or Providence facilities, depending on the plan's network). Confirm each one is in-network for the specific 2027 plan — not just "with the carrier."

2. Prescriptions. Enter every drug you take, with the exact dose, into the plan's 2027 formulary. Note the tier, any prior authorization, and quantity limits. One drug moving tiers can change your year.

3. Pharmacy. Check whether your pharmacy is a preferred pharmacy for that plan, a standard network pharmacy, or out-of-network. The same drug can cost different amounts at different pharmacies on the same plan.

4. Total yearly cost. Add the monthly premium, the deductible, your expected copays for doctors and drugs, and the plan's maximum out-of-pocket. For 2027, the Part D out-of-pocket cap is $2,400 (up from $2,100 in 2026) and the Part D maximum deductible is $700 (up from $615 in 2026). The 2027 Part B standard premium and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets have not been announced yet; CMS usually posts them in the fall.

5. Extras you will actually use. Dental, vision, hearing, OTC cards, fitness, transportation and in-home support vary a lot. Only count the ones you will realistically use.

How do I use the Medicare Plan Finder?

Go to medicare.gov/plan-compare, enter your ZIP code (Irvine ZIPs begin with 926), and log in with your Medicare account so your drug list carries over. The tool will price every 2027 Medicare Advantage plan in Orange County against your prescriptions and your pharmacy of choice, and let you compare up to three plans side by side.

If you prefer to talk to a person, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For a plan's exact rules, ask the carrier for the Evidence of Coverage and the provider and pharmacy directories for 2027.

What if I do nothing by December 7?

If you take no action, your current Medicare Advantage plan renews for 2027 — as long as it is being offered next year — with the changes described in your ANOC. If your plan is one of the 21 not returning in Orange County, your carrier will send a non-renewal notice and you will get a Special Enrollment Period to pick a new plan. You also have the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 to March 31, 2027, when you can make one change if your new plan is not what you expected.
