Key takeaways

  • 18 Medicare Advantage plans offered in Duval County in 2026 are not on CMS's 2027 list for the county; 87 plans from 13 carriers will be offered for 2027.
  • If your plan is ending, you should receive a non-renewal letter from your carrier by early October 2026 explaining the change.
  • If you do nothing, you will return to Original Medicare on January 1, 2027, without drug coverage — you will not automatically be moved to a new plan.
  • A non-renewal gives you a Special Enrollment Period that runs through February 28, 2027, plus a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap policies.

JACKSONVILLE — If you opened the mail this fall and found a letter saying your Medicare Advantage plan will not be offered next year, you are not alone. In Duval County, which includes Jacksonville, 18 Medicare Advantage plans on the shelf for 2026 are not returning for 2027, according to the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source Files for the current and coming plan years.

That letter has a name: the plan non-renewal notice. It triggers specific rights and a specific window to act. Here is how to tell if it applies to you, what happens if you do nothing, and the choices you have between now and the end of February.

How to tell if your plan is on the list

Carriers are required to send a non-renewal letter (sometimes called a "plan termination" or "non-renewal notice") to every member of a plan that will not be offered next year. The letter typically arrives in late September or early October. It will say, in plain language, that your plan will end on December 31, 2026, and that you have the right to pick a new plan.

If you cannot find the letter, two things help confirm it: your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) will be missing or will say the plan is terminating, and the plan will not appear when you search your ZIP code on medicare.gov.

The 18 Jacksonville-area plans not returning for 2027, listed in alphabetical order by carrier, are:

If your plan is not on this list, it is renewing for 2027 — but it may be renamed or redesigned, so read your ANOC closely. The table on this page shows every plan being offered in Duval County for 2027.

What happens if you do nothing

This is the part that surprises people. If your plan ends and you make no new choice by December 31, 2026, you are not left without insurance — but you are not automatically moved to a new Medicare Advantage plan either.

On January 1, 2027, you will return to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B). That covers hospital and medical care, but it does not include prescription drug coverage, and it does not have an annual out-of-pocket cap the way Advantage plans do. If you want drug coverage or Advantage-style benefits again, you have to actively enroll.

Your choices and your Special Enrollment Period

A plan non-renewal opens a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) separate from the regular Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2026). For a non-renewed Medicare Advantage plan, the SEP runs from December 8, 2026 through February 28, 2027.

During this window you can:

1. Pick a different Medicare Advantage plan. Duval County will have 87 Advantage plans from 13 carriers in 2027. Use medicare.gov's Plan Finder to compare them by your doctors, hospitals and medications. 2. Keep Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D plan. For 2027, the Part D out-of-pocket cap is $2,400 (up from $2,100 in 2026), and the maximum Part D deductible is $700 (up from $615 in 2026). 3. Keep Original Medicare and consider a Medigap (Medicare Supplement) policy. A plan non-renewal is one of the situations that triggers a federal guaranteed-issue right, meaning certain Medigap policies must be sold to you without medical underwriting during a limited window. Florida's specific rules on which policies and what timing apply are set by the state; the Florida Department of Financial Services can confirm them for your situation.

Making your choice earlier in the window — ideally during the Annual Enrollment Period itself — means your new coverage starts cleanly on January 1, 2027, with no gap.

A few things that are not changing because of this

A plan ending does not change your eligibility for Medicare, your Part A and Part B enrollment, or your Medicare number. It does not require you to re-enroll in Medicare itself. And it does not affect any other coverage you have, such as retiree benefits or VA care.

Two 2027 numbers CMS has not yet published, as of September 2026, are the standard Part B premium and deductible and the IRMAA income brackets. Those are typically announced in November. If a letter or caller quotes you a specific 2027 Part B figure right now, treat it as an estimate, not a confirmed number.

The standard monthly Part B premium has climbed from $88.50 in 2006 to $202.90 in 2026. Hover any point for that year’s premium.

Frequently asked questions

How will I know for sure my Medicare Advantage plan is ending?
Your carrier is required to mail a non-renewal notice, usually in late September or early October. The letter will clearly say the plan will end December 31, 2026. If you are unsure, call the number on your member ID card, call 1-800-MEDICARE, or check medicare.gov to see whether the plan appears for 2027 in your ZIP code.
What if I miss the February 28, 2027 deadline?
You will stay on Original Medicare. You can still enroll in a stand-alone Part D plan or change Advantage plans during the next Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2027), but you may face a late enrollment penalty for Part D if you went without creditable drug coverage, and Medigap insurers may be allowed to use medical underwriting once the guaranteed-issue window closes.
Can I keep seeing the same doctors on a different plan?
Sometimes, but not always. Every Advantage plan has its own network, and even plans from the same carrier can have different networks. Before you enroll, call your doctors' offices and ask which 2027 plans they will accept, or check the plan's provider directory. Original Medicare is accepted by any provider who takes Medicare, which is a different trade-off worth considering.
Does a non-renewal mean something is wrong with my plan or carrier?
Not necessarily. Carriers adjust their plan lineups every year — some plans are retired, some are renamed, and new ones are added. In Duval County, alongside the 18 plans not returning, there are 15 new plans and 17 renamed plans for 2027. The specifics for your plan are in your ANOC. ## Where to get help For personalized answers, start with medicare.gov's Plan Finder, which lets you compare 2027 plans using your actual doctors and prescriptions. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For Medigap questions tied to Florida rules, the Florida Department of Financial Services can confirm your rights. Your plan's own Evidence of Coverage and provider directory remain the authoritative source for its benefits and network.
