Key takeaways

  • 14 Medicare Advantage plans offered in Marion County in 2026 are not returning for 2027; the table below lists each one by name and carrier.
  • If your plan is non-renewing, your insurer must mail a non-renewal notice; without action, you move to Original Medicare on January 1, 2027.
  • Non-renewed members get a Special Enrollment Period that runs December 8, 2026 through February 28, 2027 to pick a new Medicare Advantage or Part D plan.
  • Leaving Medicare Advantage because your plan ended can also trigger a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap policies — check with the Indiana Department of Insurance for state specifics.

INDIANAPOLIS — As Annual Enrollment opens for 2027 coverage, 14 Medicare Advantage plans sold in Marion County this year are not on CMS's list of plans offered for 2027. If you are in one of them, your insurer is required to send you a non-renewal letter this fall explaining what is changing — and you have a few more options than a typical enrollee.

Here is what the letter means, what happens if you do nothing, and the window you have to make a new choice.

The plans not returning in Marion County for 2027

Indianapolis is in Marion County, where CMS's 2027 Medicare Advantage landscape file shows 79 plans from 11 carriers, with 14 plans from the 2026 lineup not continuing. The full list is in the table below. In alphabetical order by carrier, those 14 plans are:

If a plan you have is not on that list, it is still offered for 2027 — but it may be renamed or changed. Read your plan's Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), which arrived by late September, for the specifics.

How to tell if your plan is ending

Your insurer is required by Medicare to mail a non-renewal letter (sometimes called a plan termination notice) to every member of a plan that will not continue. It should arrive in early October and will say, in plain terms, that your plan will end on December 31, 2026 and that you need to make a choice.

A few things to check when it arrives:

If you cannot find the letter, call the member services number on the back of your plan ID card and ask whether your plan is being offered in Marion County for 2027.

What happens if you do nothing

This is the part that surprises people. If your plan is non-renewing and you take no action by December 31, 2026, you are automatically moved to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) on January 1, 2027. You will not be left without hospital or doctor coverage.

But Original Medicare on its own does not include Part D prescription drug coverage, and it does not cap your out-of-pocket costs the way a Medicare Advantage plan does. If you want drug coverage or something to help with the 20% coinsurance Original Medicare leaves behind, you have to choose it.

Your Special Enrollment Period and your choices

Because your plan is ending through no fault of yours, Medicare gives you a Special Enrollment Period that is longer than the regular Annual Enrollment Period. It runs from December 8, 2026 through February 28, 2027. During that window you can:

1. Pick a different Medicare Advantage plan for 2027. Marion County will have 79 plans from 11 carriers to choose from. The table below shows every one. 2. Return to Original Medicare and add a standalone Part D plan for prescription drugs. 3. Return to Original Medicare and consider a Medigap (Medicare Supplement) policy. Losing coverage because your Medicare Advantage plan is terminating is one of the situations that triggers a federal guaranteed-issue right — meaning certain Medigap plans must sell to you without medical underwriting during a limited window. Indiana may have additional rules; the Indiana Department of Insurance can confirm what applies in your case.

You can also still use the regular Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2026) to pick a 2027 plan that starts January 1, which avoids any gap at all.

Whatever you choose, these program-level figures apply in 2027:

Frequently asked questions

I got a letter saying my plan is ending. Do I have to do something before December 7?
No. Because your plan is non-renewing, you have a Special Enrollment Period that runs through February 28, 2027. You can still use the regular Annual Enrollment Period (through December 7, 2026) if you want your new coverage to start on January 1 with no gap, but you are not locked out after that.
What if I just want to go back to Original Medicare?
That is your default. If you do nothing, you are automatically enrolled in Original Medicare on January 1, 2027. If you want prescription drug coverage, you will need to add a standalone Part D plan. If you want help with coinsurance and deductibles, look into a Medigap policy — your plan's termination may give you a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap plans without medical underwriting.
My plan isn't on the non-returning list, but my benefits look different. What happened?
Plans that continue can still change their costs, networks and drug lists year to year. CMS also lists 7 renamed plans and 15 new plans in Marion County for 2027. Your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) lays out exactly what is different for 2027 — read it before you decide to stay.
Where can I see every Medicare Advantage plan offered in Indianapolis for 2027?
