Key takeaways
- 39 Michigan Medicare Advantage plans are leaving for 2027 and 88 are changing in at least one county; check your mail for your plan's Annual Notice of Change (ANOC).
- If your plan is not being renewed, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027 to pick a new plan.
- The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 – December 7, 2026, and any choice you make then takes effect January 1, 2027.
- Free, unbiased help is available from Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, and Michigan's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).
Beneath that top-line count is more movement than the small net change suggests. CMS records show 39 plans leaving the Michigan market, 88 plans continuing but changing in at least one county, 28 plans new for 2027, and 65 plans continuing unchanged. One carrier, Paramount Elite Medicare Plans, has no Michigan plans listed for 2027, and one carrier, Devoted Health, is new to Michigan for 2027.
Here is what Michigan members should know before the Annual Enrollment Period closes on December 7, 2026.
What the statewide numbers mean
CMS publishes a Landscape Source File each year that lists every Medicare Advantage plan available in each county. By comparing the 2026 and 2027 files side by side, counting each plan once statewide no matter how many counties it serves, three groups emerge in Michigan.
A plan is counted as leaving when it was offered somewhere in Michigan for 2026 and is offered nowhere in Michigan for 2027. There are 39 such plans.
A plan is counted as changing when it is offered in both years but differs on premium, drug deductible, plan type, or plan name in at least one county. There are 88 such plans. "Changing" in the CMS file is a technical label — it tells you something is different, not what. The specifics for your particular plan live in your Annual Notice of Change.
Everything else is a new plan for 2027 (28 of them) or a plan continuing unchanged across all its Michigan counties (65 of them).
If your plan is leaving
If your 2026 plan is among the 39 not being offered anywhere in Michigan for 2027, your carrier is required to send you a non-renewal notice. You will not automatically be placed into a new plan of your choosing, and doing nothing will leave you without Medicare Advantage coverage on January 1, 2027.
The good news: non-renewal triggers a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that runs through the end of February 2027. During that window you can choose another Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare and, if you wish, add a stand-alone Part D drug plan. You do not have to wait until the SEP — you can also make your choice during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2026) so your new coverage starts January 1, 2027 without a gap.
If your plan is changing
If your plan is among the 88 that are continuing but changing in at least one county, the single most important document in your mailbox this fall is the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC). Carriers are required to send it before the Annual Enrollment Period begins. It spells out exactly what is different for 2027 compared with 2026 for your specific plan in your specific county.
A member who does nothing stays enrolled in a renewing plan and accepts the changes described in the ANOC on January 1, 2027. That can be the right outcome — but only if you have actually read the ANOC and confirmed the plan still fits. Compare it against your prescriptions, your providers, and the pharmacies you use.
The counties seeing the most change
All 83 Michigan counties see at least one plan leave or change. The counties with the highest counts, per the CMS files, are:
- Oakland County: 23 leaving, 39 changing
- Washtenaw County: 18 leaving, 38 changing
- Genesee County: 15 leaving, 38 changing
- Livingston County: 14 leaving, 38 changing
- Hillsdale County: 15 leaving, 33 changing
- Montcalm County: 14 leaving, 33 changing
- Wayne County: 16 leaving, 32 changing
- Macomb County: 16 leaving, 30 changing
If you live in one of these counties, the odds that your current plan is affected are higher — but counts alone don't tell you about your plan. Your ANOC or non-renewal letter does.
What to do before December 7
1. Open the mail from your plan. Look for the ANOC (if your plan is continuing) or a non-renewal notice (if it is leaving). Both arrive in the fall. 2. Make a short list. Write down your prescriptions and dosages, your doctors and preferred hospitals, and the pharmacies you use. 3. Compare on Medicare.gov. The Plan Finder lets you enter your drugs and ZIP code and see every 2027 plan available where you live, including any from carriers new to Michigan such as Devoted Health, and shows which 2026 plans — including those from Paramount Elite Medicare Plans — are no longer offered. 4. Decide by December 7, 2026. Any Annual Enrollment Period choice takes effect January 1, 2027. If your plan is being non-renewed and you miss December 7, your SEP still gives you through the end of February 2027.
