What’s Changing in Wyoming Medicare Advantage for 2027: 6 Plans Leaving, 3 Changing

CHEYENNE — Wyoming's Medicare Advantage menu is getting shorter for the 2027 plan year. According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare Advantage Landscape Source Files, the state will have 8 Medicare Advantage plans available in 2027, down from 14 in 2026. Six plans offered somewhere in Wyoming for 2026 will not be offered anywhere in the state for 2027, three plans that continue will differ in at least one county, and five plans continue unchanged. No new plans are entering the state for 2027. Every one of Wyoming's 23 counties sees at least one plan leave or change.

Key takeaways

  • If your 2026 Medicare Advantage plan is one of the 6 leaving Wyoming for 2027, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027.
  • If your plan is among the 3 continuing but changing, read your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) carefully — it spells out exactly what is different for 2027.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and a choice made then takes effect January 1, 2027.
  • Free, unbiased help is available from Wyoming's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), Medicare.gov, and 1-800-MEDICARE.

What the statewide numbers mean

CMS publishes a Landscape Source File for each plan year. Comparing the 2026 and 2027 files for Wyoming shows the state going from 14 Medicare Advantage plans in 2026 to 8 in 2027. Each plan is counted once statewide, regardless of how many counties it serves.

CMS treats a plan as "leaving" if it was offered somewhere in Wyoming for 2026 but is offered nowhere in Wyoming for 2027. Six Wyoming plans meet that definition. UnitedHealthcare is listed in the 2026 file with Wyoming plans and is not listed with any Wyoming plans in the 2027 file.

A plan is counted as "changing" if it is offered in both years but differs on premium, drug deductible, plan type, or plan name in at least one county. Three Wyoming plans meet that definition for 2027. Five plans continue unchanged, and no new plans are entering the Wyoming market.

If your plan is leaving

If you are enrolled in one of the 6 Medicare Advantage plans that will not be offered in Wyoming for 2027, your carrier is required to send a non-renewal notice. You will also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that runs through the end of February 2027. During that SEP you can pick another Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare and, if eligible, add a stand-alone Part D drug plan.

If you do nothing, your coverage under the non-renewed plan ends when the plan year ends. You would default to Original Medicare without Part D drug coverage, which is why acting during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2026) — or at the latest during your SEP — matters.

If your plan is changing

Three Wyoming Medicare Advantage plans are offered in both 2026 and 2027 but differ in at least one county on premium, drug deductible, plan type, or plan name. CMS flags that a difference exists; the specifics belong in the plan's Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), which carriers mail each fall before the Annual Enrollment Period.

If your plan is on the "changing" list, the ANOC is the single document that tells you exactly what is different for 2027 compared with your 2026 coverage. Read it alongside the Evidence of Coverage. If you take no action, you stay enrolled in the renewing plan on January 1, 2027, with whatever changes the ANOC describes.

The counties seeing the most change

Every Wyoming county — 23 of 23 — has at least one plan leaving or changing. The counts below come directly from the CMS Landscape comparison:

Laramie and Natrona counties see the highest combined count of departures. In Albany, Crook, Goshen, Lincoln, Park, and Teton counties, no plans are leaving, but residents still have three plans with at least one documented change to review.

What to do before December 7

The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) opens October 15, 2026 and closes December 7, 2026. A plan selection made during AEP takes effect January 1, 2027. A short checklist:

1. Watch the mail in September and early October for your plan's ANOC and any non-renewal notice. 2. Confirm whether your plan is one of the 6 leaving, one of the 3 changing, or one of the 5 continuing unchanged. 3. If your plan is leaving, remember your SEP runs through the end of February 2027 — but you can also act during AEP. 4. If your plan is changing, compare the 2027 ANOC with your current coverage, including your doctors, hospitals, and prescriptions. 5. If your plan is continuing unchanged and still fits, you do not have to do anything to stay in it.

These counts come from comparing the two official CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape files for 2026 and 2027. A plan counts as leaving when it was offered in the county for 2026 and is not offered there for 2027. A plan counts as changing when it is offered in both years but its 2027 listing differs on something a member would notice: the premium, the drug deductible, the plan type, or the plan name. Only the counts are shown here. This page does not name plans, list premiums or benefits, or recommend anything. Each plan is counted once statewide, however many counties it serves.
