Key takeaways

  • Twenty-eight Medicare Advantage plans are new in Michigan for 2027, out of 181 plans offered statewide.
  • Eight carriers are introducing the new plans; the table on this page lists each plan and how many Michigan counties it covers.
  • A plan being "new" means it has no Medicare Star Rating yet, because Star Ratings require prior-year performance data.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and any choice you make in that window takes effect January 1, 2027.

How many plans are new, and which carriers are offering them

Of the 181 Medicare Advantage plans available somewhere in Michigan for 2027, 28 are new — meaning they were not offered in Michigan for 2026. Those 28 come from eight carriers:

Several of the new plans are Special Needs Plans — either D-SNPs, which serve people enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid, or C-SNPs, which serve people with specific chronic conditions. Others are general-enrollment HMO, HMO-POS or PPO plans. The full breakdown by carrier, plan type and county reach is in the table on this page.

The new plans with the widest county reach

County reach varies widely. On the broader end of the list, Blue Care Network's BCN Advantage Elements (HMO-POS) is listed as new for 2027 in 70 Michigan counties. Three UnitedHealthcare plans — AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC MI-4 (HMO-POS), AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx MI-MA2 (HMO-POS), and UHC Complete Care MI-5 (HMO-POS C-SNP) — are each listed in 48 counties. Centene's Wellcare Meridian Health Dual Liberty (HMO D-SNP) is listed in 51 counties, and Trinity Health Plan of Michigan Plus (HMO) is listed in 25 counties.

Priority Health Medicare's new plans range from 7 to 19 counties, depending on the specific plan. On the narrower end, several of Devoted Health's new PPO and PPO C-SNP plans, AmeriHealth Caritas VIP Care's HMO D-SNP, one of UnitedHealthcare's UHC Dual Complete MI-Y1 (HMO D-SNP) entries, and Zing Elite Essentials Diabetes & Heart MI (HMO C-SNP) are each listed in a small number of counties. The table on this page shows the exact county counts for each plan.

A plan appearing in your county's section of the table does not tell you anything about cost, benefits, provider networks or drug coverage — only that it is sold there.

What "new" means for a 2027 plan

A plan that is new for 2027 has not been offered in Michigan before and therefore has no Medicare Star Rating yet. Star Ratings are built from the previous year's data on things like member experience, customer service and clinical measures, so a plan in its first year on the market simply has no history to be rated against. This is a factual gap, not a judgment about quality. For the same reason, there is no multi-year track record of renewal rates, benefit changes or network stability to look back on. Information about any specific new plan — premium, deductible, copays, benefits, provider network and formulary — comes from that plan's Evidence of Coverage and from the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov.

Checking whether a new plan fits you

Three questions matter when you are looking at any plan on the table above:

1. Is it offered in your county? Each row shows the number of Michigan counties where the plan is sold for 2027. The Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov will show, by ZIP code, which plans are available where you live. 2. Does it cover your doctors and hospitals? Medicare Advantage plans use networks, and networks differ from plan to plan. Confirm with the plan's provider directory or by calling the clinic or hospital directly and asking whether they are in-network for that specific plan for 2027. 3. Does it cover your prescriptions? Each plan that includes drug coverage uses its own formulary with its own tiers and rules. Check each of your current medications against the plan's 2027 formulary before enrolling.

If you take a Special Needs Plan, there are also eligibility rules — D-SNPs require Medicaid eligibility, and C-SNPs require a qualifying chronic condition — that you will need to confirm.

What to do before December 7

The Annual Enrollment Period for 2027 coverage runs October 15 through December 7, 2026. A plan selection made during that window takes effect January 1, 2027. A simple approach:

If you do nothing and your current plan is still being offered in your county for 2027, it generally continues. If your current plan is being discontinued or changed significantly, the carrier is required to send you an Annual Notice of Change in the fall.

Frequently asked questions

How many Medicare Advantage plans are new in Michigan for 2027?
Twenty-eight Medicare Advantage plans are new in Michigan for 2027, out of 181 Medicare Advantage plans available statewide for the 2027 plan year, based on the CMS MA Landscape Source Files for 2026 and 2027.
Does "new in Michigan" mean the plan is available in my county?
No. Medicare Advantage plans are offered county by county. A plan listed as new in Michigan may be sold in only a few counties or in most of them. The table on this page shows the county count for each new plan, and the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov shows which plans are offered at your ZIP code.
Why don't new 2027 plans have a Star Rating?
Medicare Star Ratings are calculated from prior-year performance data. A plan being offered for the first time in 2027 has no prior year to measure, so it does not have a Star Rating in its first year.
When do I need to decide?
The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026. A choice made during that window takes effect January 1, 2027.
