Key takeaways

  • UnitedHealthcare is offering 6 Medicare Advantage plans in Hennepin County for 2027, all PPOs, all with drug coverage, and 2 are Chronic Condition Special Needs Plans (C-SNPs).
  • Compared with 2026, one UnitedHealthcare plan is not returning, no plans are new, and no plans were renamed — your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) spells out what is different in the plan you have today.
  • Open Enrollment runs **October 15 – December 7, 2026**; if you do nothing and your plan is renewing, it rolls into 2027 automatically.
  • Before you choose, check each plan against your doctors and prescriptions on the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE.

What UnitedHealthcare is offering in Minneapolis for 2027

Minneapolis is in Hennepin County, where Medicare Advantage availability is set at the county level. For 2027, UnitedHealthcare's Hennepin County lineup is six plans:

The table below lists every UnitedHealthcare plan available in the county for 2027 by name and type. The 2027 roster includes AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC FG-0001, AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC MN-0001, AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC MN-0002, AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx FG-MA01, UHC Complete Care MN-7, and UHC Complete Care Support MN-8.

What is new, what is not returning

Year over year, UnitedHealthcare's Hennepin County footprint shrinks by one plan:

If your current UnitedHealthcare plan is one that is not continuing in 2027, you should have received — or will soon receive — a non-renewal notice from the carrier. That letter triggers a Special Enrollment Period, so you have extra time beyond December 7 to pick a new plan. But acting during the Annual Enrollment Period keeps things simple and avoids any gap.

Everyone else should still read the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) that arrives in late September. The ANOC is where the plan tells you, line by line, what is changing in your plan's premium, deductible, copays, drug list, provider network and extra benefits for 2027.

How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions

Before December 7, run each plan you are considering through three checks. The Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov/plan-compare does all three in one place:

1. Doctors and hospitals. Enter the plan and search the provider directory, or call your doctor's billing office and ask whether they are in-network for that specific 2027 plan — PPOs let you go out of network, usually at a higher cost, but in-network is cheaper. 2. Prescriptions. Add every drug you take, with the dose and how often. The Plan Finder will show the plan's formulary, any tier, and any coverage rules like prior authorization or step therapy. 3. Pharmacy. The same drug can cost different amounts at different pharmacies. Check the pharmacy you actually use.

If you prefer to talk to a person, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also read the plan's Evidence of Coverage on the carrier's website for the full rules.

Program-level numbers to keep in mind for 2027

A few Part D figures from CMS are already confirmed for the 2027 plan year and apply across all Medicare Advantage plans that include drug coverage:

The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets for higher-income beneficiaries, have not been announced yet. CMS typically publishes those in the fall, usually in November. We will update coverage once the figures are released.

The coverage gap (the old "donut hole") has been gone since 2025. Part D now has three phases, and the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread your drug costs across the year in monthly payments if that helps your budget.

If you do nothing

Nothing bad happens if you do not act. If your current UnitedHealthcare plan is on the 2027 list, it renews automatically on January 1, 2027, with the changes described in your ANOC. If your plan is the one that is not returning, you will get a notice, and you will have time to switch. Either way, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 – March 31, 2027 gives you one more chance to switch Medicare Advantage plans or return to Original Medicare after the year starts.
