Key takeaways

  • 63 Medicare Advantage plans available in New York for 2026 will not be offered anywhere in the state for 2027, and anyone in one of them qualifies for a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027.
  • 54 plans are continuing but differ on at least one of premium, drug deductible, plan type or plan name in at least one county, so read the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your plan mails you.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 – December 7, 2026, and any choice you make in it takes effect January 1, 2027.
  • Free, unbiased help is available from Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, and New York's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).

Every one of New York's 62 counties sees at least one plan either leave or change for 2027. That means almost every current enrollee has a reason to open their mail from their plan this fall.

What the statewide numbers mean

CMS publishes a Landscape file for each plan year listing every Medicare Advantage plan offered in each county. Comparing the 2026 and 2027 New York files, each plan counted once statewide no matter how many counties it serves, the picture breaks down this way:

On the carrier side, the 2027 Landscape file lists no New York plans for HealthSpring or iCircle Services of the Finger Lakes, Inc. Devoted Health appears in New York for the first time for 2027.

A plan flagged as "changing" in this comparison means the CMS file shows a difference on at least one of those four fields in at least one county — not that benefits are better or worse. The specifics for your plan live in your ANOC.

If your plan is leaving

If your current Medicare Advantage plan is on the list of 63 not offered anywhere in New York for 2027, your plan will send you a non-renewal notice. You have two important protections:

1. The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): October 15 – December 7, 2026. A choice made in this window takes effect January 1, 2027. 2. A Special Enrollment Period (SEP): Because your plan is not being renewed, you qualify for an SEP that runs through the end of February 2027. You can use it to pick another Medicare Advantage plan or to return to Original Medicare and, if eligible, add a stand-alone Part D plan.

If you do nothing and your plan is non-renewed, you are not automatically enrolled in a comparable plan — you typically return to Original Medicare without drug coverage. That is why the non-renewal letter matters.

If your plan is changing

If your plan is one of the 54 continuing with differences, you will receive an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) from your carrier, usually by late September. The ANOC spells out exactly what is different for 2027 compared with 2026 in your county: premium, drug deductible, plan type and plan name are the fields CMS tracks in the Landscape file, and your ANOC will show your plan's own specifics across benefits as well.

If you do nothing, you stay enrolled, and the ANOC changes take effect January 1, 2027. If something in the ANOC does not work for you, the AEP (October 15 – December 7, 2026) is your window to switch.

The counties with the most change

Every New York county — all 62 — sees at least one plan leave or change for 2027. Among those called out in the CMS comparison:

These are counts of plans, not people. One plan leaving a county can affect many enrollees or very few; the county counts simply show where the churn in available options is heaviest.

What to do before December 7

A simple checklist for New York enrollees this fall:

1. Watch the mail in September and October 2026 for your plan's ANOC (if it's continuing) or a non-renewal notice (if it's one of the 63 leaving). 2. Confirm your doctors, hospitals and pharmacies are still in-network for 2027 before you decide to stay or switch. 3. Check your prescriptions against the 2027 formulary your plan will post. 4. Use the AEP: October 15 – December 7, 2026. Changes take effect January 1, 2027. 5. If your plan is non-renewed, remember your SEP runs through the end of February 2027.

These counts come from comparing the two official CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape files for 2026 and 2027. A plan counts as leaving when it was offered in the county for 2026 and is not offered there for 2027. A plan counts as changing when it is offered in both years but its 2027 listing differs on something a member would notice: the premium, the drug deductible, the plan type, or the plan name. Only the counts are shown here. This page does not name plans, list premiums or benefits, or recommend anything. Each plan is counted once statewide, however many counties it serves.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my plan is one of the 63 leaving New York for 2027?
Your carrier is required to send a non-renewal notice before the Annual Enrollment Period. You can also confirm by looking up your plan on Medicare.gov's Plan Finder for the 2027 plan year, or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE.
What happens if I do nothing during the Annual Enrollment Period?
If your plan is continuing, you stay in it and the changes described in your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) take effect January 1, 2027. If your plan is one of the 63 not offered anywhere in New York for 2027, doing nothing generally means you return to Original Medicare without drug coverage.
What is the Special Enrollment Period for a non-renewed plan?
Members whose plan is not renewed get a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027. You can use it to join another Medicare Advantage plan or move to Original Medicare, and, if eligible, add a stand-alone Part D plan.
Where does this information come from?
The counts come from a county-by-county comparison of the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape source files for plan years 2026 and 2027, with each plan counted once statewide. For plan-level details, CMS's MA/Part D Landscape and Plan Finder data are the authoritative source.
