Medicare Advantage
Why Cleveland's HealthSpring list shrank from 5 to 3
CLEVELAND — As the Annual Enrollment Period runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, 2026, Cleveland residents weighing a HealthSpring Medicare Advantage plan for 2027 have a slightly shorter list to consider than they did this year. In Cuyahoga County, the county Cleveland sits in, HealthSpring is offering three Medicare Advantage plans for the 2027 plan year, down from five in 2026. Two of its 2026 plans are not returning, and no new plans are being added.

MyMedicarePlans.org is an independent news and education site. We are not HealthSpring, and HealthSpring is one of 16 carriers offering Medicare Advantage plans in Cuyahoga County next year (99 plans in all, per the CMS Landscape Source File).
What HealthSpring Medicare Advantage plans are available in Cleveland for 2027?
HealthSpring is offering three Medicare Advantage plans in Cuyahoga County for 2027. By type, that is two HMOs and one PPO, and all three include Part D drug coverage. The table below lists every plan.
The 2027 plans, in alphabetical order, are HealthSpring Preferred (HMO), HealthSpring Preferred Savings (HMO) and HealthSpring True Choice (PPO). CMS lists these under their parent organization, Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), but they are sold under the HealthSpring name.
For 2027, HealthSpring is not offering any Special Needs Plans in Cuyahoga County — no D-SNPs, C-SNPs or I-SNPs. If you have been enrolled in a HealthSpring D-SNP in 2026, that is a change worth paying close attention to during this enrollment window.
What is new or not returning from HealthSpring in Cuyahoga County for 2027?
Two HealthSpring plans available in 2026 are not being offered again in 2027, and the carrier is not adding any new plans or renaming any existing ones. The two D-SNPs HealthSpring offered in 2026 — HealthSpring TotalCare (HMO D-SNP) and HealthSpring TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP) — are not in the 2027 Cuyahoga County lineup.
If you are enrolled in a plan that is not returning, HealthSpring is required to send you a notice. You will have options during the Annual Enrollment Period, and you may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. The specifics of any change to a plan that is continuing — benefits, cost sharing, pharmacy network, drug list — are spelled out in your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), which plans mail or email in the fall.
What happens if I do nothing before December 7, 2026?
Nothing dramatic. If your 2026 plan is being offered again in 2027, you stay in it automatically at the 2027 terms described in your ANOC. If your plan is not being offered again, Medicare will usually return you to Original Medicare unless you pick a new plan — so if you are in one of the two HealthSpring plans not returning, this is the window to choose.
The Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, 2026. Any change you make takes effect Jan. 1, 2027. If you enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan and change your mind, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (Jan. 1 – March 31, 2027) gives you one chance to switch to another MA plan or go back to Original Medicare.
How do I check a HealthSpring plan against my doctors and prescriptions?
The most reliable way is the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. Enter your ZIP code and your prescriptions, and you can compare plans side by side, see each plan's drug list, estimated yearly drug costs, and pharmacy network, and look up whether specific providers are in the network. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
A short checklist before you enroll:
- Confirm each of your prescriptions is on the plan's 2027 formulary, and at what tier.
- Check that your primary care doctor, any specialists you see, and your preferred hospital are in-network for 2027 (networks can change year to year).
- Check that your pharmacy is a preferred or standard network pharmacy.
- Read the Summary of Benefits and the Evidence of Coverage for the plan you are considering.
What Part D figures are confirmed for 2027?
CMS has published a few 2027 Part D numbers that apply to every Medicare drug plan, including the drug coverage inside a Medicare Advantage plan:
- Part D out-of-pocket cap: $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026).
- Part D maximum deductible: $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026).
- Part D national base beneficiary premium: $41.33 for 2027 (a formula input, not what any specific plan charges).
The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not yet been announced. CMS typically publishes those later in the fall, usually in November. The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan — the option to spread your drug costs over the calendar year in monthly installments — continues in 2027.
