Fall 2026 — If you have a Medicare Advantage plan in the Toledo area, this is the season to open the envelope. Some plans sold in Lucas County in 2026 will not be back for 2027, and the people enrolled in those plans are getting a non-renewal letter in the mail right now. According to the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source Files, 31 plans offered in Lucas County this year are not in the county's 2027 lineup. If one of them is yours, you have more time than usual to pick a new plan — but you do need to pick one.

Which Toledo Medicare Advantage plans are not returning for 2027?

Toledo is in Lucas County, where 31 Medicare Advantage plans offered in 2026 are not listed in CMS's 2027 file for the county. The non-returning plans come from eight carriers. In alphabetical order by carrier, they are:

If your plan isn't on this list, it is expected to be offered again in 2027 — but its benefits, drug list and network can still change. Those changes are described in your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC).

How can I tell if my Medicare Advantage plan is ending in 2027?

Your plan has to tell you in writing, and the letter should arrive by early October 2026. It is called a non-renewal notice (sometimes a "plan termination" or "non-renewal" letter), and it says plainly that your plan will not be offered in 2027 and that your coverage ends December 31, 2026.

A few quick ways to check:

Keep the letter. It is the document that proves you qualify for the Special Enrollment Period described below.

What happens in Toledo if I do nothing and my plan is not returning?

If your Medicare Advantage plan ends on December 31, 2026 and you make no choice, you are automatically returned to Original Medicare — Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) — starting January 1, 2027. You are still enrolled in Medicare; you just no longer have a private plan on top of it.

Two things to understand about that default:

Doing nothing is a legitimate choice if you want to go back to Original Medicare, but it works best when you pair it with a Part D plan and, if you want it, a Medigap policy.

What Special Enrollment Period do I get if my plan is ending?

When Medicare approves a plan's non-renewal, members get a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that runs from December 8, 2026 through February 28, 2027. During that window you can:

You can also use the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2026) to pick a 2027 plan the regular way, with coverage starting January 1. The SEP is the backstop that keeps you covered if you miss December 7 or need more time to compare.

If you move to Original Medicare because your Advantage plan ended, federal rules also give you a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap policies — meaning insurers must sell to you and cannot charge more because of your health history — but the specific plan letters and timing you're entitled to depend on Ohio rules. For state-specific Medigap questions, contact the Ohio Department of Insurance.

How do I choose a 2027 plan in Lucas County?

Start with your doctors, your drugs and your budget — in that order. For 2027, 87 Medicare Advantage plans from 14 carriers will be offered in Lucas County, so there are still many options whether you want an HMO, HMO-POS, PPO or a Special Needs Plan. The table on this page lists every plan available.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

When should the non-renewal letter arrive?
Plans are required to notify members in writing before the Annual Enrollment Period begins, so most letters arrive in late September or early October 2026. If you believe your plan is ending and haven't received anything by mid-October, call the member services number on your ID card or 1-800-MEDICARE to confirm.
Can I keep seeing the same doctors if I move to Original Medicare?
In most cases yes, as long as the doctor accepts Medicare. Original Medicare does not use a network, so you can see any provider in the country who takes Medicare assignment. Your out-of-pocket exposure is different from an Advantage plan, though, which is why many people add a Medigap policy and a stand-alone Part D plan.
If I pick a new Advantage plan during the Special Enrollment Period, when does it start?
Coverage from a plan you choose during the SEP (December 8, 2026 – February 28, 2027) begins the first day of the month after you enroll. If you enroll by December 7, 2026 during the Annual Enrollment Period, coverage starts January 1, 2027.
Does my Medigap policy end if my Advantage plan ends?
A Medigap policy is a separate product that works only with Original Medicare, so if you had one it was paused while you were in Medicare Advantage. If you're returning to Original Medicare because your Advantage plan is ending, federal law gives you guaranteed-issue rights to buy certain Medigap policies within a set window. For the Ohio-specific rules on which plan letters and which timelines apply, contact the Ohio Department of Insurance.
