PITTSBURGH — If you opened the mail this fall and found a letter saying your Medicare Advantage plan will not be offered next year, you are not alone. Nine Medicare Advantage plans sold in Allegheny County in 2026 are not returning for 2027, according to the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source Files. The letter in your mailbox is called a plan non-renewal notice, and it triggers specific rights and a longer window to pick what comes next.

Which Medicare Advantage plans are not returning in Pittsburgh for 2027?

Nine plans offered in Allegheny County in 2026 are not in CMS's 2027 Landscape file for the county. Pittsburgh is in Allegheny County, where plan availability is set, so the list below applies to everyone enrolled in those plans across the county.

In alphabetical order by carrier, the plans not returning for 2027 are:

Overall, Allegheny County will have 95 Medicare Advantage plans from 16 carriers available for 2027. The table on this page lists every plan available for the current year.

How can I tell if my Pittsburgh Medicare Advantage plan is ending?

The clearest sign is a non-renewal letter from your plan, mailed in the fall before the Annual Enrollment Period. Federal rules require Medicare Advantage plans that will not be offered the following year to notify members in writing. The letter usually arrives in October and says, in plain language, that the plan will end on December 31, 2026 and will not be available in 2027.

It is different from the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), which is the booklet every continuing plan sends each fall to explain next year's premium, cost-sharing and benefit changes. If you received an ANOC and not a non-renewal letter, your plan is continuing — review the ANOC for what is different in 2027.

If you are not sure what you received, call the member services number on the back of your plan card, or call 1-800-MEDICARE.

What happens if I do nothing after my plan ends on December 31, 2026?

If your plan is on the non-returning list and you make no other choice, you will be enrolled in Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) effective January 1, 2027. You will not automatically be moved into another Medicare Advantage plan, and you will not automatically have Part D drug coverage.

Original Medicare covers hospital and medical services under the standard federal rules, but it does not include outpatient prescription drugs. If you want drug coverage starting January 1, you need to join a stand-alone Part D plan or choose a new Medicare Advantage plan that includes drugs. In 2027, Part D has an out-of-pocket cap of $2,400 and a maximum deductible of $700, according to CMS.

What is the Special Enrollment Period for a non-renewed plan?

Members of a Medicare Advantage plan that is not being renewed get a Special Enrollment Period that runs from December 8, 2026 through February 28, 2027. During that window you can:

A change made during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2026) takes effect January 1, 2027. A change made under this Special Enrollment Period in January or February 2027 takes effect the first of the following month.

Leaving a Medicare Advantage plan because it is ending also opens a federal Medigap guaranteed-issue right, which lets you buy certain Medicare Supplement policies without medical underwriting within a set time frame. Pennsylvania has its own rules on which Medigap plans are available and how they are sold; for state-specific details, contact the Pennsylvania Insurance Department.

What are my choices for 2027 coverage in Allegheny County?

For 2027, Allegheny County will have 95 Medicare Advantage plans from 16 carriers, according to CMS's Landscape file. You can:

1. Pick another Medicare Advantage plan offered in the county for 2027. 2. Go back to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D plan, with or without a Medigap policy. 3. Do nothing and be moved to Original Medicare alone on January 1, 2027 (no drug coverage attached).

Before choosing, check that your doctors, hospitals and prescriptions are covered by any plan you are considering. The Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov lets you enter your drugs and compare plans side by side, and each plan's Evidence of Coverage and provider and pharmacy directories show the full details.

CMS has not yet announced the 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible or the 2027 IRMAA income brackets; those are usually published in November.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose Medicare if my Medicare Advantage plan ends?
No. You keep Medicare. If your plan is not renewed and you make no other choice, you are automatically covered by Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) starting January 1, 2027. You will not have Part D drug coverage unless you join a Part D or Medicare Advantage plan that includes drugs.
When will my non-renewal letter arrive in Pittsburgh?
Plans that are not being offered in 2027 are required to send written notice before the Annual Enrollment Period, so most members receive the letter in October 2026. If you believe your plan is ending but have not received a letter, call the plan's member services or 1-800-MEDICARE.
How long do I have to pick a new plan if mine is ending?
You can choose a new plan during the Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 through December 7, 2026, for coverage starting January 1, 2027. Because your plan is non-renewing, you also have a Special Enrollment Period that runs through February 28, 2027, to join another Medicare Advantage plan or a stand-alone Part D plan.
Can I buy a Medigap policy if my Medicare Advantage plan is discontinued?
Federal law gives you a guaranteed-issue right to buy certain Medigap policies when your Medicare Advantage plan ends, within a limited time frame and without medical underwriting. Pennsylvania sets its own rules on which Medigap plans are sold and how; contact the Pennsylvania Insurance Department for state-specific details. For personalized help, visit medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
