If you live in Knoxville and are sorting through Medicare Advantage choices for 2027, here is the full picture in one place. Knoxville sits in Knox County, and Medicare Advantage availability is set at the county level. For 2027, Knox County has 60 Medicare Advantage plans offered by 11 carriers, according to the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source File. Every one of those 60 plans includes prescription drug coverage.
Key takeaways
- Knox County has 60 Medicare Advantage plans from 11 carriers for 2027, and all 60 include drug coverage.
- The lineup breaks down as 20 HMO plans, 18 HMO-POS plans, and 21 PPO plans, with 23 of the 59 designed as Special Needs Plans.
- No stand-alone Part D drug plans are listed for Knox County in the 2027 landscape file, so drug coverage for most people will come bundled inside a Medicare Advantage plan or through Original Medicare with other coverage.
- The Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, and Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment runs Jan. 1 through March 31.
The table below lists every plan available in the county, grouped by carrier in alphabetical order, with its plan type (HMO, HMO-POS, or PPO) and whether it is a Special Needs Plan (SNP). We are not attaching premiums, copays, benefits, networks, or star ratings to any plan here — those details live on the Medicare Plan Finder and in each plan's own documents, and they can change year to year.
What "available in Knoxville" really means
Medicare Advantage plans are sold by county. Because Knoxville is in Knox County, the 60 plans in the table are the ones a Knoxville resident can shop this fall. If you move to another county — even a neighboring one — your options can look different, and you may get a Special Enrollment Period to change plans.
The 11 carriers offering Medicare Advantage in Knox County for 2027 are Abilis Health, Aetna (CVS Health), American Health Advantage of Tennessee, Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC), BlueCare Plus Tennessee, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Devoted Health, Elevance Health (Anthem), Humana, NHC Advantage, and UnitedHealthcare. Centene (WellCare) is not offering plans in the county for 2027. Most of these carriers offer MA-PD (Medicare Advantage with drug coverage) plans available to the general Medicare population; the rest of the lineup is filled out by Special Needs Plans.
The plan types on the table
You will see three plan types in the roster:
- HMO (Health Maintenance Organization): You generally use in-network doctors and often need a referral to see a specialist.
- HMO-POS (Point of Service): Similar to an HMO, but with some ability to go out of network for certain services.
- PPO (Preferred Provider Organization): More flexibility to see out-of-network providers, usually at a higher cost.
Of the 59 plans in Knox County, 20 are HMOs, 18 are HMO-POS, and 21 are PPOs.
Special Needs Plans in the mix
Twenty-three of the 59 plans are Special Needs Plans, which are limited to people who meet specific eligibility rules. There are three flavors on the Knox County list:
- D-SNPs for people with both Medicare and Medicaid (dual-eligible).
- C-SNPs for people with certain chronic conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease.
- I-SNPs for people who live in an institution like a nursing home, or who need that level of care at home.
You cannot enroll in an SNP unless you meet its eligibility rules. If you are not sure whether one applies to you, 1-800-MEDICARE or your local SHIP counselor can help you check.
Drug coverage and the 2027 Part D rules
Every Medicare Advantage plan on the Knox County list includes Part D drug coverage. A few program-level rules to keep in mind for 2027:
- The Part D out-of-pocket cap is $2,100 in 2026 ($2,400 in 2027) for the year, across all covered drugs.
- The Part D maximum deductible is $615 in 2026 ($700 in 2027).
- The coverage gap ("donut hole") is gone as of 2025 — Part D now has three phases, not four.
- The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread your drug costs across the year in level monthly payments instead of paying at the pharmacy counter. It is optional and free to opt into.
- IRMAA (a Part B and Part D surcharge for higher incomes) begins above $109,000 in income for a single filer in 2026.
Carriers and how many plans each offers
Here is how the 59 plans divide up by carrier (this is availability only — not a ranking):
- American Health Advantage of Tennessee: 1 plan
- Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC): 4 plans
- BlueCare Plus Tennessee: 3 plans
- BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee: 7 plans
- Centene (WellCare): 6 plans
- Devoted Health: 6 plans
- Elevance Health (Anthem): 6 plans

Dates to keep on the calendar
- Oct. 15 – Dec. 7: Annual Enrollment Period. You can join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan. Coverage begins Jan. 1.
- Jan. 1 – March 31: Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment. If you are already in an MA plan, you can switch to a different MA plan or return to Original Medicare (and pick up a stand-alone Part D plan) once during this window.
Even if you like your current plan, it is worth reading your Annual Notice of Change each fall. Networks, drug formularies, and cost-sharing can shift from one year to the next.
