Key takeaways

  • Collin County, which includes Frisco, has 21 new Medicare Advantage plans for 2027 from seven carriers: Aetna (CVS Health), Centene (WellCare), Elevance Health (Anthem), HealthSpring, Humana, Texas Independence Health Plan, and UnitedHealthcare.
  • Most of the 21 new plans are Special Needs Plans (SNPs) — chiefly D-SNPs for people with both Medicare and Medicaid, plus a few C-SNPs and I-SNPs; nearly all include drug coverage.
  • A new plan has no prior-year Star Rating because CMS needs claims history to score it; that is a program fact, not a reason to pick or skip one.
  • Annual Enrollment runs October 15 – December 7, 2026; a change you make takes effect January 1, 2027, and doing nothing renews your current plan if it is offered again.

FRISCO, Texas — For the plan year that starts January 1, 2027, seven carriers are introducing 21 Medicare Advantage plans that were not sold in Collin County for 2026, according to the CMS Medicare Advantage Landscape Source Files. If you live in Frisco and one of these new plans catches your eye during Annual Enrollment 2027, the review step matters a little more than usual — a brand-new plan has no prior-year track record to lean on, so you have to check it against your own doctors and prescriptions yourself.

The window to make a change is October 15 – December 7, 2026. Do nothing, and your current plan simply renews on January 1, 2027 with whatever changes are listed in its Annual Notice of Change (ANOC).

What is new for Frisco Medicare Advantage shoppers in 2027?

In Collin County — the county Frisco sits in — 21 of the 81 Medicare Advantage plans offered for 2027 are brand new, meaning they were not sold in the county in 2026. Seven carriers are responsible for them: Aetna (CVS Health) with 3, Centene (WellCare) with 1, Elevance Health (Anthem) with 3, HealthSpring with 1, Humana with 7, Texas Independence Health Plan with 2, and UnitedHealthcare with 4.

Separately, CMS data for the county also show 37 plans not returning for 2027 and 9 renamed. The full 2027 plan lineup is in the table below.

Which new Medicare Advantage plans are available in Collin County for 2027?

Here are the 21 new plans, listed alphabetically by carrier, with plan type and whether drug coverage is included. These names come straight from the CMS Landscape file.

Aetna (CVS Health)

Centene (WellCare)

Elevance Health (Anthem)

How many of the new Frisco plans are Special Needs Plans or include drug coverage?

Most of the 21 new plans in Collin County for 2027 are Special Needs Plans, and nearly all include Part D drug coverage. SNPs come in three flavors and all three are represented in the new list:

If you do not qualify for the SNP category, you cannot enroll in that plan, so the SNP label is as much a gate as a feature.

How is a new Medicare Advantage plan different from one that is renewing?

A new plan is a plan with no history in your county. That has one concrete consequence under Medicare's rules: CMS assigns Star Ratings based on actual performance data, so a plan in its first year does not yet have a rating of its own. New plans may inherit a contract-level rating or show as "not enough data" on Medicare Plan Finder. This is simply how the rating system works — it is not a mark against the plan.

The practical difference for you is that there are no past member experiences, no last-year's drug list to compare to, and no past provider directory in the county. Everything has to be checked from the 2027 documents.

How do I check a new plan against my doctors and prescriptions before December 7?

Do these four checks for any 2027 plan — new or renewing — before you enroll. All of them are free and official:

1. Use Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. Enter your Frisco ZIP code, add every prescription with the dose and quantity you actually take, and add your preferred pharmacy. The tool will show which plans cover your drugs and estimate your yearly drug cost under each one. 2. Check the plan's provider directory on the carrier's own website for your primary care doctor, any specialists you see, and the hospital you prefer. For a new plan, the directory is the only way to confirm the network — there is no prior year to compare. 3. Read the Evidence of Coverage (EOC) and the formulary for the 2027 plan year. The formulary tells you which drugs are covered and on which tier; the EOC spells out rules like prior authorization and referrals. 4. Call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24/7, if anything on Plan Finder is unclear, or call the plan directly to confirm a specific doctor or drug.

If you already have a Medicare Advantage plan, read your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), which arrived or will arrive by late September 2026. It lists exactly what changes about your current plan for 2027.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to do anything during Annual Enrollment if I like my current plan?
No. If your plan is offered again for 2027, it will renew automatically on January 1, 2027 with the changes listed in your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC). Review the ANOC to confirm your doctors, drugs and costs still work for you before deciding to stay put.
Why doesn't a new plan have a Star Rating?
CMS calculates Star Ratings from actual plan performance data — things like member experience, customer service and clinical measures. A plan in its first year in a county does not yet have enough of that data, so it may show as "not enough data to rate" or inherit a contract-level rating. That is a program rule, not a reflection of plan quality.
Can I enroll in one of the new D-SNPs in Collin County if I only have Medicare?
No. Dual-eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) are limited to people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. If you do not qualify for Medicaid, you cannot enroll in a D-SNP. The same type of gate applies to C-SNPs (specific chronic conditions) and I-SNPs (institutional-level care).
Where can I get help comparing plans without a sales pitch?
Medicare's own Plan Finder at medicare.gov lets you enter your ZIP code, drugs and pharmacy and compare every plan available in Collin County side by side. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), which is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
