SALT LAKE CITY — If you have a Medicare Advantage plan in Salt Lake County, this fall's mail is worth opening carefully. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) 2027 Landscape file shows six plans leaving the county after 2026, four new plans arriving, and nine renamed. One carrier, Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC), will not offer Medicare Advantage plans here next year.

Key takeaways

  • Six Medicare Advantage plans are leaving Salt Lake County after 2026, and members of a discontinued plan get a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February.
  • Four new plans are being added for 2027, nine are being renamed, and 13 continuing plans have a change on file (premium, deductible, type or name) — details are in your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC).
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC) will not offer Medicare Advantage plans in Salt Lake County next year; its two HealthSpring plans are ending.
  • The Annual Enrollment Period is Oct. 15 – Dec. 7; the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs Jan. 1 – March 31 for people already in a Medicare Advantage plan.

The Annual Enrollment Period runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, and any changes you make take effect Jan. 1, 2027. Here's what is shifting locally and what to do if your plan is on the move.

What's changing in Salt Lake County

Salt Lake City is in Salt Lake County, where Medicare Advantage plan availability is set. According to the CMS 2026-to-2027 comparison for the county:

The table below lists every plan available in Salt Lake County for the coming year.

Plans leaving Salt Lake County after 2026

If you are enrolled in one of these, you will get a non-renewal notice from your carrier. In alphabetical order by carrier, the plans not returning are:

If your plan is on this list, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that runs through the end of February. That gives you time past the Dec. 7 general deadline to pick a new Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare (with a stand-alone Part D drug plan if you want drug coverage).

New plans arriving for 2027

Four plans are entering the Salt Lake County market for 2027:

C-SNP (Chronic Special Needs Plan) options are limited to people with the qualifying condition. Everyone else can consider the general PPO options along with the other continuing plans.

Plans being renamed

Nine plans are keeping their coverage but changing their name. If you see a new plan name on your ID card or ANOC, it may be one of these:

A rename by itself does not mean your benefits are changing — but always read the ANOC to confirm.

What to do this fall

Read the ANOC. Every Medicare Advantage member should receive an Annual Notice of Change by late September. It spells out what is different for 2027 — premium, deductible, drug list, provider network, extra benefits.

Check your doctors and drugs. Before you decide, confirm your providers are still in-network and your medications are still on the formulary for the plan you want next year.

Know the dates.

Remember the 2026 Part D rules. Part D has an out-of-pocket cap of $2,100 for 2026, a maximum deductible of $615, and only three coverage phases (the donut hole was eliminated in 2025). The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread drug costs across the year in monthly amounts if that helps your budget. IRMAA surcharges kick in above $109,000 in income for a single filer in 2026.

Frequently asked questions

My Medicare Advantage plan is leaving Salt Lake County. What happens to my coverage?
Your carrier will send a non-renewal letter this fall. Your current plan ends Dec. 31, 2026. You qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that runs through the end of February 2027 — during that window, you can pick a new Medicare Advantage plan or go back to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D drug plan. If you do nothing, you'll typically return to Original Medicare without drug coverage on Jan. 1, so it's worth acting.
My plan has a new name for 2027. Do I need to do anything?
Not necessarily. A rename alone doesn't change your coverage. But CMS also lists 13 continuing plans with some kind of change — premium, deductible, plan type or name. Read your Annual Notice of Change to see exactly what, if anything, is different, and compare it to your health needs for next year.
Can I switch plans after Dec. 7?
Yes, in some cases. If you are already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan on Jan. 1, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (Jan. 1 – March 31) lets you make one change. And if your plan is being
