Key takeaways

  • Virginia Beach city will have 67 Medicare Advantage plans from 6 carriers for 2027, including six new plans and three that are leaving.
  • If your current plan is on the "leaving" list, you have a Special Enrollment Period to pick another plan, not just the Oct. 15–Dec. 7 window.
  • Sixteen plans are being renamed for 2027, so check your Annual Notice of Change carefully before assuming your coverage is unchanged.
  • Doing nothing means your 2026 plan renews into 2027 if it is still offered, with whatever changes the ANOC describes.

VIRGINIA BEACH — The 2027 Medicare Advantage lineup for Virginia Beach is set, and the picture for the coming plan year includes six brand-new plans, three that will not return, and more than a dozen renamed from 2026. The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and any choice made in that window takes effect January 1, 2027.

Virginia Beach sits in Virginia Beach city, and Medicare Advantage availability is set at the county (or independent city) level. That means the plan list below is what CMS shows for the whole city, not just one neighborhood.

The 2027 lineup at a glance

For plan year 2027, Virginia Beach city has 67 Medicare Advantage plans from 6 carriers. By plan type, that breaks down to 19 HMO plans, 19 HMO-POS plans, 27 PPO plans, and 2 PFFS plans. All 67 include drug coverage, and 27 are Special Needs Plans (SNPs) built for people with specific situations — such as being eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid, living with a qualifying chronic condition, or living in an institutional setting.

Here is how the plans split by carrier for 2027:

The table below lists every plan by name and type.

New for 2027

Six plans are new to Virginia Beach for 2027. From Humana: Humana DaVita Kidney Care (PPO C-SNP), a second Humana DaVita Kidney Care (PPO C-SNP), Humana Together in Health (PPO I-SNP), and HumanaChoice H7617-125 (PPO). From UnitedHealthcare: AARP Medicare Advantage Direct Plus from UHC VA-26 (HMO-POS) and AARP Medicare Advantage Extras from UHC VA-30 (HMO-POS).

Two of the new plans are C-SNPs (Chronic Condition Special Needs Plans) focused on kidney care, and one is an I-SNP (Institutional Special Needs Plan). SNPs are not open to everyone — you have to meet the eligibility criteria that define the plan.

Not returning after 2026

Three plans will not be offered in Virginia Beach for 2027:

If you are in one of these plans, your insurer will send a non-renewal notice. You then qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that lets you switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or go back to Original Medicare (and add a stand-alone Part D plan). This SEP runs beyond the normal December 7 deadline — generally from early December through the end of February — but acting during the regular Annual Enrollment Period keeps your coverage seamless on January 1.

Renamed, not gone

Sixteen plans are being renamed for 2027. A few examples: Aetna Medicare Enhanced (PPO) was Aetna Medicare Enhanced Plus (PPO); Anthem Dual Advantage Plus (HMO D-SNP) was Anthem Dual Advantage (HMO D-SNP); several Humana Total Complete (HMO) plans were previously Humana Gold Plus plans with different IDs; and AARP Medicare Advantage Essentials from UHC VA-8 (HMO-POS) was AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC VA-0008 (HMO-POS).

A rename does not necessarily mean the plan works the same way it did. CMS lists 29 plans in Virginia Beach as changing on at least one of premium, deductible, type or name for 2027. That is why reading your plan's Annual Notice of Change matters — it is the document that spells out what is different for the coming year.

What is confirmed about 2027 — and what is not

CMS has published a few program-wide numbers for 2027:

Not yet announced: the 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets. CMS typically releases those figures in the fall, usually in November.

How to use this during Annual Enrollment

The simplest path, in order:

1. Open your plan's Annual Notice of Change when it arrives (usually by late September). 2. Make a short list of what matters to you — your doctors, your prescriptions, your pharmacy. 3. Go to Medicare.gov and use the Plan Finder to compare 2027 plans in Virginia Beach city against that list. 4. If you prefer to talk to someone, call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), open 24/7.

If you do nothing and your plan is being offered again, you will stay in it for 2027 with the updates listed in your ANOC. If your plan is on the "leaving" list, you need to pick a new one.

By the numbers

Medicare Part B premium, 2006–2026

The standard monthly Part B premium has climbed from $88.50 in 2006 to $202.90 in 2026. Hover any point for that year’s premium.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if my Medicare Advantage plan is not returning in 2027?
Your insurer will send a non-renewal letter. You qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that generally runs from early December through the end of February, so you can switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare and add a stand-alone Part D plan. Acting during the Oct. 15–Dec. 7 window keeps your coverage continuous on Jan. 1, 2027.
Do I have to do anything if I like my current plan?
No. If your plan is still offered in Virginia Beach for 2027, it will renew automatically with the changes shown in your Annual Notice of Change. It is still worth reading that notice, because premiums, drug lists and copays can shift year to year.
How is a renamed plan different from a new plan?
A renamed plan is a continuing plan with a new label — it keeps its CMS contract and plan ID. A new plan is one CMS did not list in Virginia Beach for 2026. Sixteen plans are renamed and six are new for 2027.
What is a Special Needs Plan, and can I join one?
Special Needs Plans (SNPs) are Medicare Advantage plans built for a specific group: people who have both Medicare and Medicaid (D-SNP), people with certain chronic conditions like diabetes or kidney disease (C-SNP), or people living in a nursing home or similar setting (I-SNP). You can only enroll if you meet the plan's eligibility rules. Virginia Beach has 27 SNPs available for 2027. ## Where to get help For personalized answers, use the Plan Finder at **Medicare.gov** or call **1-800-MEDICARE** (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
