Medigap in Aurora for 2026: plan letters, the Part B reset, and rate-filing season
AURORA, Colo. — If you have a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy in Aurora, or you are thinking about buying one for the first time, the turn of the year is when the small print quietly moves. Plan letters that are open to new buyers stay the same for 2026, the Part B deductible that Plans G and N are built around resets on January 1, and insurers file their new Medigap rates with the Colorado Division of Insurance for the coming year. None of this is dramatic on its own, but together it shapes what you pay and which policies you can actually buy.

Key takeaways
- People newly eligible for Medicare can buy standardized Medigap Plans A, B, D, G, G-HD, K, L, M and N; Plans C and F are only available to people eligible before January 1, 2020.
- The Part B deductible resets every January 1, which matters because Plans G and N are designed around it — you pay that deductible yourself before the policy fills in.
- Colorado Medigap rates are filed with the state Division of Insurance, so the way to check your renewal is to compare your notice against the state's published rate guide and the Medicare.gov Medigap policy search.
- Medigap does not use the October 15–December 7 Annual Enrollment Period; you can apply any time of year, but outside your one-time Open Enrollment window insurers can use medical underwriting.
Aurora sits mostly in Arapahoe County, with parts in Adams and Douglas counties, and Medigap availability is set by the state rather than by city. So the rules below apply to Aurora residents the same way they apply anywhere else in Colorado.
Which plan letters you can still buy
For anyone becoming eligible for Medicare today, the standardized Medigap plans available are A, B, D, G, high-deductible G, K, L, M and N. Plans C and F — the two that used to cover the Part B deductible — are closed to new enrollees and are only sold to people who were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020. That rule has not changed for 2026, but it is worth repeating because it is the single most common source of confusion when a friend or spouse tells you what they have.
The plans are standardized by federal law, which means a Plan G sold by one Colorado insurer covers the same medical costs as a Plan G sold by another. What differs between insurers is the premium, the way rates are structured over time, and customer service — not the benefits.
The Part B deductible reset — and why G and N shoppers care
Every January 1, the Part B deductible resets to a new annual amount set by CMS. This matters for Medigap because the two most popular plans for new enrollees, G and N, are built on the assumption that you pay the Part B deductible yourself and the policy picks up almost everything after that. When the deductible number moves each year, your first out-of-pocket medical bill of the year moves with it.
High-deductible Plan G works the same way but with a much larger yearly amount you pay before coverage kicks in. If you carry HDG, mark the reset on your calendar; it is the number that decides whether a January doctor visit comes out of your pocket or the plan's.
Rate-adjustment season in Colorado
Medigap premiums are not set by Medicare. In Colorado, insurers file proposed rates with the state Division of Insurance, which reviews them before they take effect. That is why your renewal letter in the fall or winter may show a different premium than last year, and why two neighbors with the same plan letter from different insurers can pay very different amounts.
If you get a renewal notice and want to see whether the increase is in line with the market, two places help:
- The Colorado Division of Insurance publishes a Medigap rate guide that lists premiums by plan letter and by age.
- The Medicare.gov Medigap policy search lets you enter your Aurora ZIP code and see every insurer selling each plan letter in your area.
We are not naming insurers in this article because we do not have a verified 2026 Colorado carrier list to publish; the two tools above are the authoritative sources.
Insurers entering or leaving
Unlike Medicare Advantage, where CMS publishes a clean yearly plan roster, Medigap carriers come and go quietly through state filings. If your current insurer stops selling new Medigap policies in Colorado, that generally does not cancel your existing coverage — standardized Medigap policies are guaranteed renewable as long as you pay the premium. But it can affect whether you can move within that company's product line.
To confirm your insurer's status for 2026, check the Division of Insurance filings, run the Medicare.gov Medigap search for your ZIP, or call Colorado's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), which is free and unbiased.
When you can switch — and when underwriting applies
This is the part many Aurora readers get wrong: the October 15–December 7 Annual Enrollment Period is for Part D and Medicare Advantage. It is not a Medigap window.
Your one federally protected Medigap window is your six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, which starts the month you are 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. During those six months, insurers must sell you any Medigap plan they offer at their best available rate, regardless of health history. After that window closes, Colorado insurers can use medical underwriting on most applications — meaning your health can affect whether you are approved and what you pay. There are limited guaranteed-issue situations (for example, if certain other coverage ends), and SHIP counselors can walk you through whether you qualify.
