CHANDLER, Ariz. — This fall, Maricopa County seniors looking over their 2027 Medicare Advantage choices will see 17 plans that did not exist on the shelf a year ago. Chandler sits inside that county, so every one of those plans is on the local menu — alongside returning plans that may look familiar but have their own 2027 changes spelled out in each member's Annual Notice of Change. If a brand-new plan catches your eye between now and the December 7, 2026 deadline, the work is the same: match it against your doctors and your prescriptions before you enroll.
How many Medicare Advantage plans are new in Chandler for 2027?
Seventeen Medicare Advantage plans are new to Maricopa County — the county Chandler sits in — for the 2027 plan year, out of 92 plans offered countywide. "New" here means the plan was not sold in the county in 2026 and is appearing for the first time on the 2027 Landscape. The other plans you'll see are either returning (sometimes with a new name) or going away.
Which carriers are adding new plans in Maricopa County for 2027?
Nine carriers are bringing new Medicare Advantage plans to Maricopa County for 2027. In alphabetical order, with the number of new plans each: Aetna (CVS Health) (2), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (1), Centene (WellCare) (1), Devoted Health (6), Elevance Health (Anthem) (1), Gold Kidney Health Plan (1), Humana (1), SCAN Health Plan (3), and UnitedHealthcare (1).
The full table below lists every new plan, its plan type and whether it includes drug coverage. The 17 new plans for 2027 are:
- Aetna Medicare Chronic Care (HMO C-SNP) — Aetna (CVS Health)
- Aetna Medicare Prime (HMO) — Aetna (CVS Health)
- Blue Best Life Select (HMO) — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona

What plan types are the 2027 new plans, and do they include drug coverage?
Of the 17 new plans in Maricopa County for 2027, most are HMOs or HMO-POS plans; one is a PPO (Humana Value Choice). Sixteen of the 17 include Part D prescription drug coverage. One — AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx AZ-MA2 (HMO-POS) from UnitedHealthcare — is Medical-Advantage-only (no built-in drug coverage), which means you'd need to decide separately how to cover your medications.
Plan type matters because it shapes how you use the plan. HMOs usually ask you to stay in a defined network and may require a primary care doctor and referrals; PPOs typically let you see out-of-network providers at a higher cost; HMO-POS plans sit in between, allowing a point-of-service option for some services.
Are any of the new 2027 plans Special Needs Plans?
Yes — most of the new plans for 2027 in Maricopa County are Special Needs Plans (SNPs), which are built for people with specific situations. Among the 17 new plans you'll see:
- Chronic-condition SNPs (C-SNPs) for people living with certain long-term conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or kidney disease: Aetna Medicare Chronic Care, DEVOTED C-SNP ENHANCED 092 AZ, DEVOTED C-SNP GIVEBACK EXTRAS 104 AZ, DEVOTED C-SNP PLUS 093 AZ, Gold Dialysis Premier, SCAN DaVita Dialysis Care Complete, and SCAN Walmart Medicare Complete.
- Dual-eligible SNPs (D-SNPs) for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid: Wellcare Arizona Complete Health Dual Liberty Sync.
- Institutional SNPs (I-SNPs) for people who live in or need the level of care provided in a long-term care setting: Wellpoint I CareMore Home Care.
You generally have to qualify for an SNP based on your condition, your Medicaid status, or your care setting — not just your ZIP code.
How is a brand-new Medicare Advantage plan different from a renewing one?
A new plan has no local track record and no Medicare Star Rating yet. Star Ratings are built from member experience, plan performance and quality measures over time, so a plan appearing for the first time in 2027 simply hasn't been in the field long enough to earn one in Maricopa County. CMS treats this as a program fact — it's not a signal to avoid or to prefer a new plan.
A renewing plan is different in a specific way: it has history, and it has an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) that spells out exactly what is changing for 2027 — the premium, the deductible, the copays, the drug list, the provider network, and the extra benefits. If you are already enrolled, that ANOC should have arrived by late September 2026. If you are shopping a renewing plan you don't currently have, the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov shows its 2027 details.
For either kind of plan, the question is the same: does it cover your doctors and your drugs on terms that work for you?
How do I check a 2027 plan against my doctors and prescriptions before December 7?
Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov, or call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Three steps cover most of it:
1. Make two lists. Write down your prescriptions (name, dose, how often) and your providers (primary care, specialists, preferred hospital, preferred pharmacy). 2. Run the Plan Finder for ZIP 85224, 85225, 85226, 85244, 85246, 85248 or 85249 — whichever is yours in Chandler. Enter your drugs and let the tool show you each plan's 2027 estimated yearly drug cost, formulary tier for each medicine, and preferred pharmacies. 3. Verify the network directly. Call the plan — or your doctor's billing office — and ask whether your doctors and your preferred hospital are in-network for that specific 2027 plan. Networks can change year to year, and the plan's own Evidence of Coverage and provider directory are the authoritative sources.
Also worth knowing for 2027: the Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 (up from $2,100 in 2026), and the Part D maximum deductible rises to $700 (up from $615 in 2026). The 2027 Part B premium and IRMAA brackets haven't been announced yet — CMS usually publishes them later in the fall.
If you do nothing by December 7, 2026, your current plan simply renews for 2027 if it is still offered, with whatever changes the ANOC describes.
