Compare 148 Arizona Medicare Advantage Plans for 2027 From 16 Carriers

This explainer walks through what the 2027 landscape looks like across the state, how to compare the plans available in your own ZIP code, and where to get free, unbiased help before December 7.

The statewide numbers for 2027

The CY2027 CMS Landscape file shows 148 Medicare Advantage plans available somewhere in Arizona, offered by 16 carriers. Every one of those 148 plans includes Part D prescription drug coverage.

Year over year, the lineup is shifting. 36 plans are new for 2027, and 21 plans offered in 2026 are not returning. That churn is one reason federal regulators encourage every enrollee to look at their coverage during the Annual Enrollment Period, even if nothing in their own health has changed.

Because each plan is approved for a specific service area, the statewide total of 148 is not the number you will see in any one county. A resident of Maricopa County, Pima County, Yavapai County, or a rural county such as Apache or La Paz will each see a different list in the Plan Finder.

Plan types and Special Needs Plans

Across Arizona for 2027, the 148 plans break down by type as follows:

HMOs generally ask you to use an in-network set of doctors and hospitals; HMO-POS plans add a limited point-of-service option; PPOs typically give more flexibility to go out of network. The specifics live in each plan's Evidence of Coverage, not here.

Arizona also has Special Needs Plans (SNPs) for people who meet certain eligibility rules:

SNPs have their own eligibility requirements, and you have to qualify to enroll.

The carriers offering plans in Arizona for 2027

Sixteen carriers are in the 2027 Arizona market. In alphabetical order they are: Aetna (CVS Health), Alignment Health Plan, Banner Medicare Advantage, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, Centene (WellCare), Devoted Health, Elevance Health (Anthem), eternalHealth, Gold Kidney Health Plan, HealthSpring, Humana, Mercy Care Advantage, Molina Healthcare of Arizona, SCAN Health Plan, UnitedHealthcare, and Verda Health Plan of Arizona.

Plan counts per carrier vary widely across the state — from a single plan at Molina Healthcare of Arizona up to 36 at Devoted Health — and the full counts, plan types, and SNP figures by carrier are shown in the table on this page. Several carriers also offer D-SNPs, including Banner Medicare Advantage, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, Centene (WellCare), Mercy Care Advantage, Molina Healthcare of Arizona, and UnitedHealthcare.

A reminder: this is a statewide count. Being on this list does not mean a given carrier sells a plan in your county.

How to compare the plans in your own county

The most reliable way to compare 2027 options for where you actually live is to work through the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. A step-by-step approach:

1. Start with your ZIP code. On medicare.gov, enter your ZIP in the Plan Finder. The tool filters the statewide list down to plans offered in your county. 2. List your doctors and hospitals. Write down the providers and facilities you want to keep. Then check each plan's online provider directory, or call the plan, to confirm they are in network for 2027. Networks can change year to year. 3. List your prescriptions. Enter each drug, dose, and frequency into the Plan Finder. The tool compares how each plan's formulary (drug list) handles your specific medications. 4. Check your pharmacies. Add the pharmacies you actually use. Plans treat preferred and standard pharmacies differently, so the same drug can look different depending on where you fill it. 5. Read your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC). If you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, your carrier mailed you an ANOC in September describing what is changing for 2027. Compare the 2026 and 2027 columns line by line. 6. Confirm in the Evidence of Coverage. Before you enroll, skim the plan's Evidence of Coverage for 2027 to confirm the rules that matter to you.

Doing those six steps for two or three plans is usually more useful than skimming all of them.

What to do before December 7

The Annual Enrollment Period closes December 7, 2026. By that date, aim to:

If you take no action and your current plan is renewing, you will generally stay in it for 2027 with its 2027 terms.

You do not have to figure this out alone, and you do not have to pay anyone to help you compare plans.

Both are run by the federal Medicare program and can walk you through what is offered in your county, how to read an ANOC, and how to enroll before December 7.
