Which Wellcare Medicare Advantage plans are offered in Irvine for 2027?
Irvine is in Orange County, where Wellcare will offer 5 Medicare Advantage plans in 2027. All five are HMOs and all five include Part D prescription drug coverage. Two of them are Special Needs Plans: one D-SNP (for people with both Medicare and Medi-Cal) and one C-SNP (for people with a qualifying chronic condition).
The table on this page lists every Wellcare plan available in Orange County for 2027. For 2027, those plans are Wellcare Health Net Dual Liberty (HMO D-SNP), Wellcare Low Premium (HMO), Wellcare Simple (HMO), Wellcare Simple Focus (HMO) and Wellcare Specialty Simple (HMO C-SNP).
Wellcare is one of 16 carriers offering Medicare Advantage plans in Orange County next year, out of 111 Medicare Advantage plans countywide.
What is new, renamed or gone from Wellcare's Irvine lineup for 2027?
Compared with 2026, Wellcare has 1 plan not returning, 0 new plans, and 1 renamed plan in Orange County for 2027. The renamed plan is Wellcare Health Net Dual Liberty (HMO D-SNP), which was called Wellcare Dual Liberty (HMO D-SNP) in 2026.
A rename does not necessarily mean the plan works the same way it did before — the benefits, network and drug list can shift from one plan year to the next. The specifics for your plan are in the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) that Wellcare mailed in late September. Keep that document; it is the single clearest source for what is different about your plan in 2027.
If your current Wellcare plan is the one not returning, you will get a separate non-renewal notice from the carrier, and you have a Special Enrollment Period to pick a new plan.
What are the Wellcare Special Needs Plans in Orange County for 2027?
Wellcare offers two Special Needs Plans in Orange County in 2027: Wellcare Health Net Dual Liberty (HMO D-SNP) for people who have both Medicare and Medi-Cal, and Wellcare Specialty Simple (HMO C-SNP) for people with a qualifying chronic condition.
Special Needs Plans have eligibility rules on top of basic Medicare rules, so you cannot simply sign up — you have to qualify. Medicare.gov and 1-800-MEDICARE can help confirm whether a given SNP fits your situation.
How do I check a Wellcare plan against my doctors and prescriptions before December 7?
Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. Type in your ZIP code and your medication list, and the tool will show which plans in Orange County cover your drugs and what each plan would cost you. You can also compare pharmacies, because the same drug can cost a different amount at a different pharmacy under the same plan.
For doctors and specialists, check the plan's provider directory on Wellcare's own site, or call the plan directly and ask whether a specific provider is in-network for the specific plan you are considering (a doctor can be in-network for one of a carrier's plans and not another). If you prefer to talk it through, 1-800-MEDICARE is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Three things worth confirming before you commit:
- Each of your prescriptions is on the plan's formulary, and at what tier.
- Your primary care doctor, your specialists and your preferred pharmacy are in the plan's network for 2027.
- Any ongoing prior authorizations or referrals will transfer or restart cleanly on January 1.
What is changing across Medicare in 2027 that affects Part D?
A few program-level numbers are already confirmed for 2027. The Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026). The Part D maximum deductible is $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026). The Part D national base beneficiary premium for 2027 is $41.33 — that is a formula input Medicare uses, not what any particular plan charges.
The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not been announced yet. CMS typically publishes those later in the fall. The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan, which lets you spread drug costs across the year in monthly amounts, continues in 2027.
What happens if I do nothing by December 7, 2026?
Nothing dramatic. If your current plan is offered again in 2027, it renews automatically on January 1, 2027, with whatever changes are in the ANOC. If your plan is one of the ones not returning, the carrier is required to tell you, and Medicare will give you a Special Enrollment Period so you are not left without coverage.
You also get a second window: the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs January 1 through March 31, 2027. During that window, if you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or go back to Original Medicare one time.
