What is new or not returning from UnitedHealthcare in Honolulu for 2027?
Compared with 2026, UnitedHealthcare has one new Medicare Advantage plan in Honolulu County for 2027 and one plan that is not returning. The new plan appears in the list above as "new for 2027."
If you are enrolled in a UnitedHealthcare plan that is not being offered next year, the carrier is required to send you a written notice. In that case, you can pick a different plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2026) for coverage that starts January 1, 2027. If your current plan is returning, you will have received an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) in September that spells out exactly what is changing for 2027 — the premium, the drug list, the provider rules, the extras. Read it, even if you plan to stay.
What are the Special Needs Plans in UnitedHealthcare's 2027 Honolulu lineup?
UnitedHealthcare has two Dual Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) in Honolulu County for 2027: UHC Dual Complete HI-Y1 and UHC Dual Complete HI-YL (the second is new for 2027). D-SNPs are only for people who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. There are no Chronic-Condition SNPs (C-SNPs) or Institutional SNPs (I-SNPs) in this carrier's 2027 Honolulu lineup.
If you are not sure whether you qualify for a D-SNP, Medicare.gov and your state Medicaid office can tell you.
How do I check a plan against my doctors and prescriptions before December 7?
Go to Medicare.gov's Plan Finder, enter your ZIP code and your drug list, and compare. Plan Finder will show you, for each plan available in Honolulu County, which of your prescriptions are on the formulary, the estimated yearly drug cost based on your medicines, the plan's monthly premium, and the maximum out-of-pocket amount for medical services. To check doctors, call the provider's office directly and ask whether they take the specific plan name and plan ID you are considering — networks can differ between two plans from the same carrier.
A few 2027 figures that will matter when you compare drug coverage:
- The Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 in 2027 (it is $2,100 in 2026). Once your out-of-pocket spending on covered drugs hits that cap, you pay $0 for the rest of the year.
- The Part D maximum deductible rises to $700 in 2027 (it is $615 in 2026). Plans can charge less, but not more.
- The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan is still available — it lets you spread your drug costs across the calendar year in level monthly amounts instead of paying at the pharmacy counter.
CMS has not yet announced the 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible or the 2027 IRMAA income brackets. Those usually come out in November; check Medicare.gov for the official numbers once they are posted.
What happens if I do nothing by December 7, 2026?
Nothing dramatic. If your current plan is being offered again in 2027, you stay in it automatically — with whatever changes the ANOC describes. If your current plan is one of the ones not returning, your coverage ends December 31, 2026, and you will need to pick a new plan (or you may fall back to Original Medicare without drug coverage, which is usually not what people want). The Annual Enrollment Period closes December 7, 2026, for a January 1, 2027 start date. There is also a Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 – March 31, 2027, when people already in a Medicare Advantage plan can switch once.
