23 New Medicare Advantage Plans in Illinois for 2027: The List
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Twenty-three Medicare Advantage plans are new in Illinois for the 2027 plan year, part of a statewide total of 139 plans available to Illinois Medicare beneficiaries, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' MA Landscape Source Files for the current and coming plan year. The new plans come from seven carriers, and because Medicare Advantage is sold county by county, a plan on the statewide list may or may not be offered where you live.

How many plans are new, and which carriers brought them
Of the 139 Medicare Advantage plans offered to Illinois residents for 2027, 23 are new — meaning they were not offered to Illinois beneficiaries in 2026. Seven carriers are introducing them:
- Aetna (CVS Health): 4 new plans
- Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC): 1 new plan
- Centene (WellCare): 2 new plans
- Devoted Health: 8 new plans
- HealthSpring: 1 new plan
- Humana: 4 new plans
- UnitedHealthcare: 3 new plans
The full list of plan names, plan types (HMO, HMO-POS, PPO, and C-SNP variations), and the number of Illinois counties each one serves is in the table on this page. Each new plan includes drug coverage.
The new plans with the widest county reach
A handful of this year's additions stretch across large portions of the state, while others are limited to a few counties. Among the widest-reaching new entries statewide:
- Wellcare Simple Value (HMO-POS) from Centene (WellCare) is listed in 90 Illinois counties.
- AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx IL-MA2 (HMO-POS) from UnitedHealthcare is listed in 14 counties.
- From Devoted Health, DEVOTED C-SNP CHOICE GIVEBACK EXTRAS 015 IL (PPO C-SNP) and DEVOTED CHOICE GIVEBACK EXTRAS 018 IL (PPO) are each listed in 25 counties, with additional Devoted PPO and HMO entries covering 8, 9 and 12 counties.
At the narrower end, HumanaChoice H7617-007 (PPO) appears in a single county, and several new HMO and HMO-POS plans from Aetna (CVS Health), Blue Cross Blue Shield (HCSC) and HealthSpring are offered in a handful of counties each. The precise county counts for every plan are in the table above.
What "new" means for 2027
A plan listed as new for 2027 is one CMS did not list in Illinois for 2026. That has one practical consequence worth knowing: brand-new plans do not yet have a Medicare Star Rating in their own right, and they do not have a track record of past-year premiums, formularies or provider networks for Illinois members to look back on. That is a fact of their newness, not a judgment about quality. The same plan name may also appear with different plan IDs that serve different counties — for example, two separate "Aetna Medicare Signature (HMO)" entries appear on this year's new list, one in 7 counties and one in 2.
Checking whether a new plan fits your county, doctors and prescriptions
Because Medicare Advantage availability is set county by county, the first thing to confirm about any plan on the new list is whether it is offered where you live. From there, three questions matter most:
1. Is the plan offered in your county for 2027? 2. Are the doctors, hospitals and other providers you use in that plan's network? 3. Are your prescriptions on that plan's formulary, and at a cost you can plan around?
The authoritative places to answer those questions are the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov, a call to 1-800-MEDICARE (available 24 hours a day, seven days a week), and the plan's own Evidence of Coverage and provider and pharmacy directories. Those documents — not summaries, not advertisements — carry the specifics of what each plan covers.
What to do before December 7
The Annual Enrollment Period for 2027 coverage runs October 15 through December 7, 2026. Any Medicare Advantage or Part D choice you make during that window takes effect January 1, 2027, per CMS's rules on Medicare enrollment periods.
A reasonable sequence for Illinois residents considering any of the new plans:
- Make a short list of your current doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and prescriptions, including dosages.
- Open medicare.gov's Plan Finder, enter your ZIP code, and see which 2027 plans — new or returning — are listed for your county.
- For any plan you're considering, read the 2027 Summary of Benefits and the Evidence of Coverage, and check the plan's own online provider and drug search tools.
- If you already have a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, review the Annual Notice of Change your current plan mailed in September so you know what is changing for 2027 before you decide whether to switch.
- Note the December 7, 2026 deadline on your calendar, but give yourself time earlier in the window to ask questions.
Free help
You do not have to sort through this alone, and you do not have to pay for help. Two no-cost resources are available to every Illinois beneficiary:
- Medicare.gov — the Plan Finder lets you compare 2027 plans by ZIP code, see each plan's documents, and check drug coverage against a personal medication list you build in the site.
- 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227; TTY 1-877-486-2048) — staffed around the clock to answer questions, explain enrollment periods, and walk through plan options.
Both are run by the federal Medicare program itself and are free to use.
