How many Anthem Medicare Advantage plans are offered in Lexington for 2027?
Anthem is offering 8 Medicare Advantage plans in Fayette County, the county that contains Lexington, for the 2027 plan year. By plan type, that breaks down into 1 HMO, 3 HMO-POS and 4 PPO plans. Seven of the eight include Part D prescription drug coverage; one is a PPO without drug coverage, which is often chosen by people who get drug coverage through the Department of Veterans Affairs or another source.
Anthem is one of 9 carriers offering Medicare Advantage in Fayette County next year, and across all carriers there are 66 plans available locally. The full list of Anthem's plans is in the table below.
What's new or not returning in Anthem's Lexington lineup for 2027?
Two Anthem plans are new in Fayette County for 2027, and none of its current plans are leaving. The two new entries, listed alphabetically, are Anthem Chronic Care Advantage (HMO C-SNP) and Anthem Medicare Advantage 2 (HMO-POS).
A C-SNP, or Chronic Condition Special Needs Plan, is a Medicare Advantage plan designed for people with a specific qualifying condition. Anthem is offering two C-SNPs in Lexington for 2027 — the new Chronic Care Advantage plan and the returning Anthem Kidney Care (HMO-POS C-SNP). To enroll in a C-SNP, you must have the qualifying condition verified; the plan's materials and Medicare.gov explain exactly who is eligible.
If you are already enrolled in an Anthem plan that is coming back next year, you do not need to do anything to keep it. Your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), which Anthem mails each fall, spells out what is different about your specific plan for 2027.
What are HMO-POS and PPO plans, and why does it matter?
Plan type controls how you use the plan's network. An HMO generally asks you to use in-network doctors and hospitals and to pick a primary care doctor. An HMO-POS ("point of service") is an HMO that lets you go out of network for certain services, usually at a higher cost. A PPO gives you more flexibility to see out-of-network providers, typically with higher cost-sharing than in-network care.
Anthem's 2027 Lexington lineup includes all three structures. The right fit depends on which doctors and hospitals you want to keep seeing and whether you travel or spend part of the year outside Kentucky — not on which category sounds better on paper.
How do I check an Anthem plan against my doctors and prescriptions before December 7?
Use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Plan Finder lets you enter your prescriptions and ZIP code and shows how each plan would handle them.
A short checklist for every plan on your short list:
1. Doctors and hospitals. Search the plan's online provider directory for each doctor and specialist you want to keep. If you are unsure, call the office and ask whether they will accept that specific plan in 2027 — networks can change in January. 2. Prescriptions. Enter every drug and dose into Plan Finder. Look at the tier, any prior authorization or step therapy, and the preferred pharmacies near you. 3. Pharmacy. Confirm your pharmacy is in the plan's preferred network; the same drug can cost different amounts at different pharmacies. 4. Extras. If dental, vision, hearing or over-the-counter benefits matter to you, read the Summary of Benefits for each one — details vary from plan to plan. 5. Read your ANOC. If you have an Anthem plan now, compare your 2027 ANOC side by side with your 2026 Evidence of Coverage before you decide to stay or switch.
What 2027 numbers has Medicare already announced?
CMS has confirmed several Part D figures for 2027. The annual out-of-pocket cap on covered prescription drugs rises to $2,400 in 2027, up from $2,100 in 2026. The maximum Part D deductible a plan can charge rises to $700 in 2027, up from $615 in 2026. The Part D national base beneficiary premium for 2027 is $41.33; that is a formula input used across the program, not what any particular plan charges.
The 2027 Part B standard premium and deductible, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets, have not yet been announced. CMS typically publishes those figures later in the fall.
When is the deadline, and what happens if I do nothing?
The Annual Enrollment Period for 2027 coverage runs October 15 through December 7, 2026. Changes made in that window take effect January 1, 2027. If you do nothing and your current plan is offered again next year, you stay in it automatically with the changes described in your ANOC.
If you are in a Medicare Advantage plan on January 1, you also have the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 through March 31, 2027, when you can switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan one time or return to Original Medicare.
