What Medicare Advantage plans does UnitedHealthcare offer in Lexington for 2027?

Lexington is in Fayette County, where UnitedHealthcare will offer 13 Medicare Advantage plans for the 2027 plan year. By plan type, that breaks down to 9 HMO-POS plans and 4 PPO plans. Eleven of the 13 include Part D prescription drug coverage; two are offered without drug coverage.

The full roster is in the table below. In alphabetical order, the UnitedHealthcare plans available in Fayette County for 2027 are: AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC KY-0002 (HMO-POS), AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC KY-0003 (PPO), AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC KY-1 (HMO-POS), AARP Medicare Advantage from UHC KY-5 (HMO-POS), AARP Medicare Advantage Giveback from UHC KY-4 (HMO-POS), AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx KY-MA01 (PPO), AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx KY-MA2 (HMO-POS), UHC Complete Care KY-6 (HMO-POS C-SNP), UHC Dual Advantage KY-V1 (HMO-POS D-SNP), UHC Dual Complete KY-Q1 (PPO D-SNP), UHC Dual Complete KY-Q2 (HMO-POS D-SNP), UHC Dual Complete KY-S3 (PPO D-SNP), and UHC Dual Complete KY-S4 (HMO-POS D-SNP).

What is new, renamed, or not returning in UnitedHealthcare's 2027 Lexington lineup?

For 2027 in Fayette County, UnitedHealthcare has three new plans, two plans that are not returning, and four plans that kept the same plan but changed names. The three new plans are AARP Medicare Advantage Patriot No Rx KY-MA2 (HMO-POS), UHC Dual Complete KY-Q2 (HMO-POS D-SNP), and UHC Dual Complete KY-S4 (HMO-POS D-SNP).

The four renamed plans — same plan, new name on the mail — are:

Two plans UnitedHealthcare offered in Fayette County in 2026 are not on the 2027 list. If you are enrolled in one of them, the carrier is required to mail you an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) by the end of September explaining what is happening and what your options are. Members who do nothing may be moved to a different plan or may need to pick a new plan during the Annual Enrollment Period.

Which UnitedHealthcare plans are Special Needs Plans (SNPs)?

Six of UnitedHealthcare's 13 Fayette County plans for 2027 are Special Needs Plans — five Dual-Eligible SNPs (D-SNPs) and one Chronic Condition SNP (C-SNP). The D-SNPs are designed for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. The C-SNP is for people living with a specific qualifying chronic condition.

SNPs have enrollment rules that general Medicare Advantage plans do not. You have to meet the eligibility criteria to join and to stay enrolled. If you are not sure whether you qualify, Medicare.gov and 1-800-MEDICARE can tell you.

How do I check a plan against my doctors and my prescriptions before December 7?

The most reliable place to check is the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov, which is updated with the 2027 plans in early October 2026. Enter your ZIP code and your drug list, and the tool will show the carrier's current formulary, the pharmacies in network, and estimated yearly drug costs plan by plan. For doctors and hospitals, open the plan's provider directory on the carrier's own website or call the number on the plan's materials — networks change every January, so last year's answer is not good enough.

A short checklist before you decide:

1. Pull out your prescription bottles and make a list, with doses. 2. Write down the providers you want to keep — primary care, any specialists, your preferred hospital, your pharmacy. 3. Run the plan through the Plan Finder with that list, and confirm each provider in the plan's current directory. 4. Read the Summary of Benefits for 2027, not 2026. 5. If you already have a Medicare Advantage plan, read your ANOC — it spells out any changes to premium, cost sharing, benefits, or drug list for 2027.

If something does not line up, you have until December 7, 2026 to switch. If you do nothing, your current plan simply renews for 2027 (if it is being offered), with the changes described in the ANOC.

What is changing in Medicare itself for 2027?

A few program-level numbers are already set for 2027 by CMS. The Part D out-of-pocket cap rises to $2,400 in 2027 (up from $2,100 in 2026). The Part D maximum deductible rises to $700 in 2027 (up from $615 in 2026). The Part D national base beneficiary premium for 2027 is $41.33 — that is a formula input CMS uses, not what any one plan charges.

A few other 2027 figures are not out yet. The standard Part B premium and deductible for 2027 are usually announced by CMS in November, and the 2027 IRMAA income brackets come out at the same time. We will update our coverage when those are published.

The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan — the optional program that lets you spread Part D drug costs across the year instead of paying at the pharmacy counter — continues in 2027. You can opt in through your Part D or Medicare Advantage plan.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to do anything if I like my UnitedHealthcare plan and it is on the 2027 list?
No. If your plan is being offered again for 2027, it renews automatically on January 1, 2027. You should still read the Annual Notice of Change that comes in the mail by late September so you know how the premium, drug list, cost sharing or benefits will look next year.
What happens if my 2026 plan is one of the two UnitedHealthcare plans not returning?
Your carrier will send you a non-renewal notice explaining when coverage ends and your options. You will have a Special Enrollment Period to choose another Medicare Advantage plan or go back to Original Medicare with a stand-alone Part D plan, in addition to the regular Annual Enrollment Period that ends December 7, 2026.
Can I enroll in a UnitedHealthcare Dual Complete or Dual Advantage plan if I only have Medicare?
No. Those are Dual-Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) and require that you have both Medicare and Medicaid. If you are not sure about your Medicaid status, call Kentucky Medicaid or 1-800-MEDICARE before applying.
Where can I see premiums, copays, and star ratings for these plans?
At medicare.gov using the Plan Finder, or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048), 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The plan's own Evidence of Coverage and Summary of Benefits for 2027 also list the specific costs and rules. For personalized help choosing or comparing plans, use the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE. Those are the official sources, they are free, and they reflect the most current 2027 plan information.
