How to check a plan against your doctors and prescriptions

Before December 7, 2026, it's worth running your own check instead of guessing:

1. List your doctors and the pharmacies you use. Include specialists you see even once a year. 2. List your prescriptions — exact drug names, doses, and how often you fill them. 3. Go to the Medicare Plan Finder at medicare.gov. Enter your ZIP code, add your drugs and pharmacy, and filter to Medicare Advantage plans. You'll see each plan's monthly premium, deductible, drug costs, and provider network for your situation. 4. Confirm your doctors are in-network by checking the plan's own provider directory, and call the office if you're not sure — directories can lag. 5. Read the Evidence of Coverage (EOC) for any plan you're seriously considering. It's the long document that spells out what is and isn't covered. 6. If you already have a plan, read your ANOC. It compares this year's benefits with next year's, line by line.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if my Wellcare plan isn't returning in 2027?
Your plan will send you a non-renewal notice this fall. You can use the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7, 2026) to pick a different Medicare Advantage plan or go back to Original Medicare, with or without a standalone Part D plan. If you don't act, you'll be returned to Original Medicare on January 1, 2027, without drug coverage.
Do I have to do anything if my plan is renewing?
No. If your plan is offered again next year, it renews automatically. Still, read the Annual Notice of Change to see what's different — premiums, copays, drug tiers, and networks can all shift from one year to the next.
Can I switch plans after December 7?
During the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period, January 1 – March 31, 2027, people already in a Medicare Advantage plan can switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare once. Special Enrollment Periods may also apply if you move, lose other coverage, or qualify for Extra Help or Medicaid.
How do I know if I qualify for a D-SNP?
D-SNPs are for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. If you're not sure about your Medicaid status, Kentucky's Medicaid office or 1-800-MEDICARE can help you check. ## Where to go next For plan-specific details — premiums, drug lists, networks, and star ratings — use the Medicare Plan Finder at **medicare.gov**, call **1-800-MEDICARE** (TTY 1-877-486-2048), or review the plan's own Evidence of Coverage and provider directory. Your decision for 2027 is personal, and the best check is the one that uses your doctors, your drugs, and your ZIP code.
